I played it safe and ordered a small sicilian pie along with the white pie. I had 3 slices of the white pie and a slice of the sicilian (never tried it before from this place). My wife can have at the rest if she wants when she gets home from work.

Well being a NYer who now lives in NH I can safely say that you can get good pizza up here but there's a lot more bad than good. My biggest beef is that you can't just pick up a slice for lunch. The places that do sell by the slice don't usually have a good enough turnover and the stuff will be petrified on the counter.

Very true. Israel has a few good places, but 90% make an unholy copy of pizza that is horrid. I'm talking about canned corn and tuna as toppings, pizza that is way too doughy with not enough sauce, and horrible cheese that is not mozzarella. On the other hand I was turned on to some pretty good local combinations at some decent places...feta cheese and roasted eggplant as a topping combo on a regular slice. Quite enjoyed that. Definitely a mixed bag though.

I've traveled to just about every state, and given the long hours of my job, I've had pizza in all of them. In the US there is only 3 states, stretching it maybe to 4, that actually serve something that could be considered pizza, much less, good pizza.

1st (tie)New York and New Haven
2nd North Jersey
3rd Philly
4th Boston

The rest, eh. Pizza is meant to be made in a wood or coal fired oven at about 800 degrees farenheit. I don't mean everyplace in these cities are the greatest, but there are a few places in these cities that are head and shoulders above the rest. But even the bad places are better than the best in other cities.

Now don't get me started about Chicago pizza. Like Ronnie B. said, "Chicago pizza is not pizza, its a cross between a lasagna and a bundt cake."

Mack's & Manco's pizza is good for the shore but it is overrated in my opinion its not as good as anything in south philly. Go to Celebre's in the Shopping Center near Chickie's by the stadiums, trust me you will not regret it. Stick to Springsteen and Bon Jovi

NY food sucks and it costs to much.
my cousins place makes a cheessteak that would knock your socks off...theres good pizza here to... but say what you will... I love PIZZA HUTS CHICKEN SUPREME.

try one...they are pricey but fuckin good.

Anyone who cites Pizza Hut as being good pizza throws any credibility they may have out the window.

Pizza Hut is tolerable, at best - it's decent.

Goddamn, this thread brings back memories. Hard to believe almost a year has passed, and my waistline has expanded exponentially due to increased pizza intake. Fuck me. I was recently in NYC and my buddy wanted to try NY pizza. I've no particular place that I seek out, but we found ourselves a Phil's, a hole-in-the-wall place not terribly far from the World Trade Center site. It was good, but there was nothing stand out about it. Where do I go next time?

Also, the wife and I get fresh pizza dough from an awesome bakery and we've been experimenting with making our own pies with leftovers or whatever. We've had some really good ones, but my new fave is breakfast pizza. Saturday morning you fry up some bacon and a ham steak, chop it all up and spread it on dough with cheese and scrambled eggs, holy shit is it good. I made another one this past week with bacon and leftover london broil thinly sliced, wow. Anyone else get creative with their own pies?

One year later and NJ pizza still sucks....

As far as Pizza Hut.....the more you drink the better ot tastes.

There is a reason why food is so expensive in NY...

Because its keeps the shit out of your neighborhood.

Pizza Hut is tolerable, at best - it's decent. I don't know whose culinary ideas are more disgusting. Glenn with his "Pizza Hut = good pizza" or Flea with his microwavable steak.

Pizza Hut, Dominoes and Papa John's are all the same level of crap. If you're in the middle of nowhere, stoned or drunk, don't want to spend the hour and a half to make your own pizza dough (stupid yeast) and want something greasy in the form of pizza, that's when you order it.

Finding good pizza is difficult. (And I'm generally incompetent at trying to make my own dough/stretching it out properly.) Sometimes you have to go to random places and order a whole pie just to get a sense of what they can offer you. But I'd rather go on a quest than order from Pizza Hut.

Also white pizza is delicious. Spinach pizza has to be with a white base; I've never tried a sauce-based spinach pizza that tastes anywhere as good.

i've found maybe only 2 places that had decent pizza. one of the things i miss being from philly. I dont even bother with cheesesteaks down here, because they are going to fuck it up and im going to get angry. tell you what, I miss italians making my food, thats for sure

Lucky for me living in Brooklyn I got three pretty good pizza places to choose from within walking distance of my house.

As for cheesesteaks, those are sometimes hit or miss up here(usually misses). I do know one place that makes it pretty good here in Brooklyn. Think they are originally from Philly which explains everything.

As for Pizza Hut, it's ok in a pinch. Pizza Hut to pizza is like McDonald's is to hamburgers.

Well, I just got done. It was pretty good. Too much garlic for my taste, but I liked it. I'd have it again.

I played it safe and ordered a small sicilian pie along with the white pie. I had 3 slices of the white pie and a slice of the sicilian (never tried it before from this place). My wife can have at the rest if she wants when she gets home from work.

generally they dont put garlic on white slices, its not pizza persay but its damn good, I used to get them a lot with sauted garlic and broccolli

I also stand by my original statement, if it don't have sauce its not pizza. White pizza is a calzone. Instead of stuffed dough, they just leave it open. Please thing about it for a second people....Ricotta, mozzarella, dough......some garlic, spinach maybe......Its a calzone.

Delicous when made right, even better than pizza at times, but not pizza.

We need a ruling from Wackbag's own master of the calzone - Stingray. :)

You guys are so spoiled.
I live in indiana, where I have 4 or 5 local joints, and those are the only places I will get pizza from. I refuse to get food from dominoes, pizza hut, pizza king or any of those crap places.

I go to Bayville, New Jersey/NYC once a year and I am shocked by the lack of chain joints out there. It makes me super fucking jealous though. I get so sick of "Oh, hey. Did you hear they are opening a ruby tuesday here? I bet that place is awesome".
Ick.

Mom and pop places don't make it here for the most part. Sucks. Indiana people stink and hate good food.

Is it in a Hess Station? :haha7:

:action-sm I know it's not, but it kinda sucks for them to share a name with a chain outfit that has locations in gas stations.

I'm actually eating pizza right now. I got home from work and the wife said she wanted pizza (I better get some sex tonight). So, I ordered up a regular pizza and a pan pizza from Dominick's (http://members.aol.com/kevnalu/pizza/richboro/). I've never tried their pan variety and wanted to give it a shot.

Any self respecting Italian that names his business after a "mob" themed movie, TV show, etc. is completely and totally fucking hack. I would never even walk into a place called The Godfather, or Good Fella's etc.

They are either not Italian or fucking wanna be's, either way they will NEVER get a dime from me.

Never having been to NY I do not know how the pizza is. I don't doubt that it's good. Chicago style is more of a casserole than pizza. We have a couple of upper scale restarants that have wood fired stone pizza ovens. That shit is balls out awsome. The best pizza I have experienced so far is a Pizza joint in the cafe court area of the Plaza of the Americas office towers in downtown Dallas. It's been about 7 years and I don't remember the name, all I do remember that they were Russians that barely spoke english, served 3 types of "New York" pizza cheese, pepperoni, and sausage and no matter what the fuck you ordered they yelled out 'EXCELLENT CHOICE'. That being said. I HAAAATTTEEEE Pizza Hut...Whenever my wife and I are out with friends and someones suggests pizza and then another ass had says "Yeah, Pizza hut has a meatlovers lets go there" I want to buy them a frozen pizza and analy **** them with it. Yeah I am a longwinded douche bag.

Mom and Pop old school Italian Pizzerias in Brooklyn, owned by real Italians making the same recipe's since off the boat is what i call pizza.

Davinci's Pizza in Bay Ridge, or this place in Bensonhurst called Enzo's is untouchable.

I love Spumoni Gardens L and B Squares as well.

Oh, and I agree, trying to pretend you have the best pizza because your business has a mob theme to it is silly.

Of course a mafia theme real time strategy browser game is perfect!

One of best memories is waiting on line at L & B walking up and ordering 2 or 3 with a diet and get my squares and can of diet pepsi. It reminds me of those Viza commericals, where someone tries to pay with cash.

Someone would order pepperoni or something and get dirty looks from the 25 people waiting in line.

Truth is quality dough, sauce and cheese is all you need for good pizza.

Anything else is fluff.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good buffalo slice or eggplant or even a chicken parm slice, but NOTHING beats an L & B square........NOTHING
