Check out this video. It's a sting that was done by some website (consumerist.com). They installed capture software and brought in a PC for a software install.

There is no way of proving that that video is real. I'll bet that computer was never in the hands of the geek squad.

Wait...people pay other people to install iTunes?

I'm in the wrong business.

I wouldn't doubt if it was. Just about anyone who was worked doing repairs on a home pc has done this. Did anyone complain when the nosy tech did a search for jpgs and found Gary Glitter's collection? How about Pete Townsends?

Even if he wasn't a kid toucher he's a faggot with that name. And IF I ever take my comp in, I make sure any porn or pics that I don't want seen by others get backed up and then wiped from my comp.

Who knew that when you hand over your computer to a repair technician, you could be giving a stranger a veritable Pandora's box?

Um... anyone with half a brain.

I really don't see why this is a big deal since it's an issue involving an individual, and shouldn't reflect on the company involved.

I do repairs, and honestly, I dont bother looking at people's pics or documents. I try to get the job done as fast as I can and return it.

Shit, big deal. I used to scan for porn on every machine that came into Computer City when I worked there as a kid. It was a whole hobby thing with me & the other install techs. Nobody cared. Once I even did find kiddie porn on a box, I deleted it. What's the guy gonna do, complain?

Saw this video yesterday morning, more interesting is this article: http://consumerist.com/consumer/the-rollercoaster-ride-of-pride%2C-shame%2C-and-morality/the-10-page-geek-squad-confession-+-stealing-customers-nudie-pics-was-an-easter-egg-hunt-257108.php
by a former employee of GS, long, but well written.
Taking pictures from customer's computers happens all the time, so I don't think this video is fake at all. People just don't know any better.

I work for the Geek Squad. Its sad to see this, but this doesnt make every geek squad location or agent like this guy.

The consumerist has its own agenda that increases its page hits. The reasons you don't see firedog or easytech in the news, is the amount of customers that we serve every year. They are after the big dogs and that is what generates the buzz.

Most of the users on wackbag are not customers of GS, mainly because they have enough savvy to fix their own problems. For the 85% of the country, we make it easy for them. You have to consider that a working father does not have time to sit in front of his computer for hours trying to fix a driver or clean a virus/spyware. Especially if they do not know where to start.

I don't work at bestbuy. I'm just saying that it's easy for someone who hates a company for some reason to make a video like this. I could easily make a video that makes Macs look like they are taking your personal information. It's not hard. That was the worst fake video i've ever seen. They could have at least installed iTunes. Isn't that the reason they had the computer? And what's the point in taking porn photos off of a computer when all you have to do is type 'tits' into google?

That's why I keep my porn on a separate HD.

Ok, so you're one of the mobile Geek Squad techs who drives around in one of those VW Beetles. I understand now. :action-sm

BTW, the tech took porn VIDEOS and amateur bikini photos (allegedly of the purported computer's owner).

That's a smart way to go about it. Honestly, I recommend using a USB drive for all your important shit.

People pay $50 to have RAM installed.
