If the Fairness Doctrine is brought back, talk radio stations can easily circumvent the new rules by pairing a bright articulate
conservative host with a dim witted, slow thinking moron who will represent the liberal point of view. Sort of like the Hannity & Colmes
show for radio.

So who's going to be the bright one on the O&A show?

Will this apply to the the liberal controlled media such as CNN, MSNBC, the NY Times, C-Span, and every news outlet outside of talk radio ?

Sounds like the dems fear people like Hannity, Savage. O'Reilly and Limbaugh.

They hate talk radio because it is the last bastion of freedom, maaan.

Also, they hate when their phone systems get shutdown from the very people they "represent."

No, only applies to talk radio.

So I guess the 25 hours of free coverage NBC gave to Gore's re-election campaign on Saturday doesn't count under the Fairness Doctrine?

Why does the opposing viewpoint have to be a democrat? Why can't it be republican vs. libertarian or extreme political guy vs. moderate? Or classical conservative vs. neo-conservative?

Well you can see how that would go by the treatment Ron Paul gets.

Or classical conservative vs. neo-conservative? hah. everyone knows there's only two people. heroic conservative republicans and cowardly liberal democrats. There's nothing in between and you're silly for suggesting so.

The Fairness Doctrine failed decades ago. It won't succeed now.

It's just another way to keep Americans divided while the powers that be run away with the government, and our freedom. Americans need to stop worrying about right and left, democrat and republican, liberal and conservative, and unite. Unite as Americans and take our freakin constitution back from the hands of bankers and corporate unions. It may sound alittle wacky, but take an hour and watch this video, I promise you it will rock your world.

No, only applies to talk radio.

It applies to whatever they WANT it to apply to.

I've heard rumblings that they want to try and attach it to the INTERNET if they bring it back, and if that doesn't send a chill down your spine I don't know what will.

So Rush's site will have to carry liberal viewpoints, and sites like Daily Kos will have to carry conservative viewpoints? I'd like to see that happen. :icon_roll

I'm not saying that it will - but you can be sure that they'd certainly try.

Since the people on this board are supposed to be so gung-ho about free speech, I would hope most of you would be dead set against this doctrine.

Typical liberal douche::whaa, whaa, whaa, we need to pass a law because we get slaughtered in the free market of ideas..."

Typical neocon: "blah, blah, blah, we need to support our President because we share the same values..."

Typical American: *clicks on radio* "welcome to the Preston and Steve show..."

on first glance, that just seems like rhetoric meant to scare people.
The internet is inherently fair, anyone can already say whatever they want.

A medium like Fox news is controlled by a handful of people with an agenda, and has a lot of exposure. The internet is the opposite. Loads of people with input, and they are lucky if they can get anyone to read it.

Yes, I get what you're saying, but you're only illustrating my point.

The internet, right now, is like the Wild West. Just about anything goes, unless maybe you're in someplace like China, and even they can't totally control it.

That doesn't mean that our "representatives" in Congress wouldn't LOVE to legislate the net. They've already attempted to do it, i.e. internet gambling.

If they attempt to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, don't be surprised if they try and lump in the internet as well, *especially* since, to use an example, many of the assinine illegal alien amnesty shills in the Senate were whining like bitches that conservative blogs had a big hand in defeating the legislation (even though, in reality, only a very small number of Americans read such blogs).

I'd imagine all you Ron Paul supporters would be all against this Doctrine returning. It's an assault on free speech AND an attempt by government to take more control in your freedom of choice.

I have yet to hear of any talk show host (liberal or conservative) who is for this.

I honestly think that it's the democrat's way to attempt to silence those who disagree with them.

Nobody prevented Air America from forming, broadcasting, or failing. It's the free market stupid.

Millions of people listen to Rush, Hannity, etc, by choice. Millions also tuned out of Al Franken by choice.

Although I think it would be funny if Hannity had someone nutball like Dennis Kucinich on and he got some funny phone calls.

"Caller, you're on the air with Dennis"

"Dennis?"

"Yes, this is Dennis."

"Not you!"

Same as CNN and MSNBC.
