When I was a kid, the kids in my elementary school were split down the middle between KISS and Elvis Presley. . . fist-fights would breakout on the playground everyday about who was better. This was about 1976. . . I'm an old bastard.:p

First thing I remember really liking or hearing for that matter was when I was in 3rd grade, hanging out at a friend's house was Pinball Wizard. Don't remember if it was The Who or Elton John version.
Never was really into any bands until I was in like 6th or 7th grade.

Metallica, Guns N' Roses, The Doors, Testament, and a lot of oldies.
Then around middle school it was out with the mullets and in with the grunge but I still liked metal.

My first cassette tapes were:
Men at Work - Business as Usual
The Police - Synchronicity
The Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
Ratt - Out of the Cellar
Miami Vice Soundtrack
Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry
Not a bad collection, I guess. I remember really wanting Def Leppard's Pyromania during those years and not being able to get it because K-Mart never had it.
I'll throw myself under the bus and say I also bought the LP version of 'Raising Hell' by Run DMC. No shame in that except that I wanted the LP version so I could 'scratch'. I get douche chills just thinking about it.

I was fucked up musically as a kid. I probably sang a lot of Sunday School songs with my mother. She's also play me the soundtrack to "Oklahoma!" the musical as we hung around the house. I'm surprised I don't have a member in my mouth as I type this.
Then I got my own record player and listened to stupid kid's records from like Disney and shit.
But my 1st tape I ever bought was the Digital Underground album "Sex Packets" from Columbia House. I was into hip hop back then. Slick Rick and shit like that. LL Cool J, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.
It wasn't until the middle of high school that I was introduced to Metal. I had never even heard a full Sabbath album until then, it was all new to me. It was pretty much done after that. Metal is the only music I've ever wanted to play myself and the music I listen to more often than not. But my weird background in music had led to me enjoying a very wide range of styles.

I was into music more as a little kid than I am now.
When I was like 7-9 I listened to radio music, I remember having the Men At Work album and John Cougar American Fool, stuff like that.
I always loved ACDC, since I was about 8 years old. They are the only band I've liked throughout my life. That was a harbinger to my obsession with metal in my teen years. Highschool was all about thrash, punk, and hardcore.
Nowadays I listen to a somewhat large range of music, I've kind of outgrew the metal stuff, still listen to punk. Whatever music I like has to have guitar in there somewhere.

Back in elementary school, I had a trio of tapes called "Wacky Favorites" which featured primarily old comedy/funny/strange songs. I played those tapes near to death, and annoyed by singing every song.
If we're talking earlier than that, my parents used to put on Sharon, Louis and Brahm as well as Rosenshontz.
