Didn't realize the new Bad Religion was out today. Heard one of the new songs last Sun and it sounds like they went old school BR(Stranger Than Fiction and earlier) with it.

I'm so out of touch with new music, I had no idea Smashing Pumpkins got together again. They always had a unique sound that I liked. This I would definitely buy. Maybe I'll check out the other two bands, I am starved for something new.

Even if you dont like their new stuff, seeing them play stuff from suffer and no control live as a five piece is unreal... Punk bands arent supposed to sound so good.

Fuck man they have 3 guitarists now.... fucking 6 piece :icon_eek:

all bad religion songs are the same song over and over again

Your not listening to the right stuff... Graffin is an old man and he still after 25+ years has a sick voice and writes some of the best songs out there.

You need a fucking thesaurus to listen to them.

Check out Suffer, one of the best punk cd's EVER

Punk is a relative term, it's different things to different people.

I'm old enough to know and love the old stuff and young enough to know and love the newer stuff too.

Just because you can play your instrument and your records don't sound like they were recorded on a 5th generation blank tape, doesn't mean that your music isn't punk. You don't have to sing in a crappy British accent or have a mohawk either.

Even though I personally don't really care for them, Bad Religion has been around for a looooong time, and they have earned a great deal of respect in the punk community.

A good sounding punk band is like one of those oxymoron things. BR always sounded pretty tight to me.. The same guy that played drums for Pumpkins is still around right? Sounds like it. He was fucking great.

I'll check those two out.. Interpol gives me a headache.

amen

music evolves and branches out, there are many styles of punk out there and they have all come to take something from each other. punk is a legitimate form of music now, without talent there is no music, there's only so many times a band can scream and thrash out the same 3 chords while whining about authority. Im not saying I dont like the old stuff, I think it embodies the ideals of its time and is a highly enjoyable style of music but punk is as much as ideal as it is a style of music, there's no way bad religion isnt punk

I am more of a metal guy, but I grew up liking a bit of punk. I have always been a fan of Bad Religion. Listening to the new one now, and it is pretty good.

But the best thing to come from the punk era.... The post-punk era.

Namely Joy Division.

Personally, I'm amazed at how many of those Southern California punk bands from the early 80's have adapted and are still churning out music to this day! And they still rock 10x harder than modern day "punk" candyasses like Good Charlotte and Sum 41.

Bad Religion, The Adolescents, Agent Orange, and Social Distortion (headed to their Allentown show on the 27th) come to mind!

It might not be REAL smashing pumpkins without Jimmy Iha, but I'll have to admit the new album is nothing but music to my ears, from first song to last. But I'm pretty biased. I got the bestbuy edition. :p

Also, I really wanted to dislike this album. From the marketting and releasing of it, to Corgan breaking up the band and replacing people, etc. But the sound is unmistakable, and it's really fucking good to have some new offerings of it.

Gonna grab the bad religion shit next, they were always good, too.

Interpol, never heard em really. If coke says theyre good, they probably are. I'll give it a check.
