Bon Jovi Protests Name of N.J. Energy Drink

MANCHESTER, N.J. (AP) -- Jon Bon Jovi and an East Brunswick businessman are feuding.

The Jersey rocker wants the owner of the Mijovi energy drink to change its name, arguing it's too similar to his famous moniker.

But Marcos Carrington says his coffee-based energy drink is named after his girlfriend, whose name is Jovita.

Bon Jovi, who lives in Middletown, made the request after seeing a can of Mijovi for sale in a cafe in nearby Red Bank in January. His lawyers sent Carrington a letter demanding that he stop using the name Mijovi.

But Carrington says the request is unfair because the name has nothing to do with the singer.

Carrington says he started Mijovi in August 2004 as a way to raise funds for an environmental consulting business.

I though his claim was b/s until I read this part in another article:
Bon Jovi, objected to the word "Mijovi" as well as the words "itsmijovi" and "itsmilife," which appear in the company's marketing materials and on the can.
The initial name could be a coincidence, but the marketing phrases are a
definate ripoff off his material.

Yeah, here's another article to back up what BB said--

Associated Press - July 19, 2007 1:13 PM ET

MANCHESTER, N.J. (AP) - Jon Bon Jovi thinks the name of an energy drink sounds too much like his name. And he wants the owner of the "Mijovi" energy drink to change its name.

The creator of the coffee-based energy drink says it's named after his own girlfriend -- Jovita -- and not the 45-year-old rocker.

Bon Jovi's lawyer has written the man a letter objecting to the phrases "itsmijovi" and "itsmilife" -- words that appear in the company's marketing materials and on the can. He notes that 1 of Bon Jovi's most popular songs is entitled `It's My Life.'"

The drink maker he's willing to stop using "itsmilife" on cans, but says he's keeping the name Mijovi.
