I wonder how far off we are from being able to purchase such products. I'm ready for some 1 ping gaming while running 10 servers from home. How are people doing this now? Is it possible to get T1 connections at home? I wanna start running some smaller gaming servers from home.

The average person won't see 40Gb/s at their home for another 25-30 years. They got lucky there as far as their country has the backbone support for their size and density. Though don't think they got this cheap. Even if he gets it at cost, it'll still run in the 6 figures. A normal gigabit DSLAM costs tens of thousands so I imagine this was bought at a premium.
You can get a T1 at your house for $300-500/month minimum.

Considering that the fastest that PC is actually getting the connection at is Gbps (assuming theres not a custom LAN card in there, or some kind of fiber card Im not aware of), and whatever bus the card is talking to is damn sure not keeping up....dont think the OS gives a flying fuck how fast that internet connection is.

it really does not matter since most of the time your connection is faster than the place you are downloading from will send it out. Even if bill gates had a connection that fast, it would be almost worthless unless it was just to connect to the main microsoft servers directly.

I don't see Gates having anything more than a DS-3 or OC-3. Any more and you'd just be flushing tens of thousands of dollars down the toilet per month.
We wont see a connection speed like that where I live for a long time, shitty copper phone cabling.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- She is a latecomer to the information superhighway, but 75-year-old Sigbritt Lothberg is now cruising the Internet with a dizzying speed.
Lothberg's 40 gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world, Karlstad city officials said.
In less than 2 seconds, Lothberg can download a full-length movie on her home computer -- many thousand times faster than most residential connections, said Hafsteinn Jonsson, head of the Karlstad city network unit.
Jonsson and Lothberg's son, Peter, worked together to install the connection.
The speed is reached using a new modulation technique that allows the sending of data between two routers placed up to 1,240 miles apart, without any transponders in between, Jonsson said.
"We wanted to show that that there are no limitations to Internet speed," he said.
Peter Lothberg, who is a networking expert, said he wanted to demonstrate the new technology while providing a computer link for his mother.
"She's a brand new Internet user," Lothberg said by phone from California, where he lives. "She didn't even have a computer before."
His mother isn't exactly making the most of her high-speed connection. She only uses it to read Web-based newspapers.

Why would you want a T1 in your home? That's only 1.5MB/s bandwidth max. Now.. an OC3 however... :D

Well I'm rusty on my pricing but I'd figure that since's that's 84 T-1s there's a premium on it. Especially considering the install cost will be in the tens of thousands.
Speed ain't cheap.
