Haven't washed my iPod yet, but I have, twice, washed and dried my flash drive. Never lost a byte, and it never stopped working.

Flash drive is one thing, a 30 gig iPod has a hard drive. Probably toast.

30 seconds in the microwave will dry up all that nasty moisture.

My wife dropped her cell phone in the pool. I took the battery off as soon as possible and just let it sit and dry for 24 hours. I didn't think it would work again, but it is as good as new.

YEah I did that before as well. You end up having greasy spots ALL over the clothes that you had in the dryer. And you basically can't get it out. I think I used most of the clothes for cleaning rags but still used the jeans. It got a little better after like a year of washing them :P The grease eventually washed out.

Different animals. Flash drive is a solid-state memory device with NO powersource. So, besides maybe developing a little corrosion after a while from the solvents in the water nothing will happen to it as long as you allow it to dry.

The problem with the iPod is that is has a powersource (battery) that will cause a short circuit with the device and it will fry. It's not about drying things out, it's just about a power surge in the device that will fry the circuit board. The same thing happens to cell phones.

you're f**ked dude

just for posterity, you can curse here sir.

i have the same iPod, just got it a couple months ago, and i hope that doesn't happen to me. another thing to consider is that the 30G iPod Video has moving parts, whereas smaller iPods like the Mini don't. so if the battery didn't get wasted, there's still the possibilty that all the jostling and spinning inside the machine could have caused some of the internal moving parts to break. good luck bro.

You should probably remove all electronic devices from your pants before putting them in a washing machine. Ipods are trash anyway, get an mp3 player that doesn't suck.

Last week I was getting gas for my lawn mower and the canister leaked all over my cell phone and seat. I turned it off for a few hours and cleaned it up and now it works fine...it also looks cleaner too!

I'd try putting it in the oven on 200 for 10 minutes. A friend did the same to a cell phone and it worked.

As a medical electronics tech, here's the trick I use to save the telemetry EKG packs that the patients are constantly dropping in the toilets...

-Pull the battery out as lickety split as possible(wearing rubber gloves, of course).

-Let that bastid sit on a sunny window sill for about a week.

Haven't lost one yet, and at five thousand bucks a pop, that's a saying something.

i have to blame this on your upbringing. your parents should have taught you to check you pants before putting them in the wash.
it's not you fault. it's not your fault. it's not you fault. it's not your fault. it's not you fault. it's not your fault. it's not you fault. it's not your fault.
