Do People Want Truth?

Look at me starting a thread a day and a half late. On Wednesday's show Ron was discussing how all media lies to us, all news lies to us, all government lies to us, right or left it doesn't matter it's bullshit. But he talked about how many people would be happier knowing the truth about what's going on.

I don't think there's any argument that every single side lies to us be it media or government. But what do you think of the theory that the people want truth and would be ok with it.

I am torn between options 2 and 3. I don't think most people would be able to wrap their heads around the truth and it might cause more problems than it solves because people are dumb. Then again, I don't think the majority of people give a shit. We say we went into Iraq to get a foothold in OPEC and more people will care about Domino's new Oreo pizza* than about OPEC or any of that.



* As I was typing this, a commercial for Dominos Oreo Pizza came on the TV which could not have been more perfect.

Problem is, people don't really want to believe it. Look how many fucking 9/11 conspiracy fuckheads there are out there.

So I guess I go with choice 3. Not because people can't handle the truth, but too many people out there couldn't give a shit about it. They want to believe what they want to believe. I don't even think, like Bud seems to, that they don't want to hear the truth cause that way they can't be "hurt" by it. I mean, people want to live in their own little fantasy worlds instead of face reality.

Most people prefer to rely on faith that someone is looking out for them, be it god, their government, their parents, society, whatever.


There also is the argument that there are many different versions of truth, and that they can be opposites of each other depending on points of view

The problem is, as I see it.

Most people only want the truth if it is what they already believe. Otherwise, they claim you don't know what you saw heard or did.

When I was a cop in the military, I caught a kid, 12 or 13 years old, break into a car a steal the stereo from it. This was caught on the in-car video cam.

It showed me sneaking up on him, and very nicely take him into custody (read level 2 and 3 of force, verbal commands and physical guidance to place the cuffs on him). He admitted when I talked to him, after I read the blah blah blah right to remain silent, that he saw the cd player and he wanted it, so he was going to steal it. Now granted, being a kid, a good lawyer would have it never heard in court. Take him back to the L.E. Desk. call the parents, they show up, and thier honor roll student, would never do that. when shown the video, they claimed I must have doctored the video. Then they claimed I used excessive force taking him into custody, I could have broken his shoulders......

Here is why I post that story. It just goes to show, that no matter what people see and hear, if it isn't what they already believe, they will claim it is a lie and a cover-up. The truth isn't being told, and is doctored to show what the mannnnnnnnnnnn, wants you to see.

While I want the truth to be told to me in personal dealings, I think for the most part, I can decipher it. In the big picture of truth in media and gov't, I know I'm not hearing the truth and would like to know, but the picture's too clouded to actually decipher what the absolute truth is. But of course, as many have already stated here, I'm not the average citizen. I think the real answer is that people don't give a shit about the truth.

Not giving a shit about the truth, though, can be classified in a couple of different ways. First there's the nonchalant 'I don't care' attitude that many complacent Americans have. The apathetic masses seriously don't care if the thing to care about (in this case the truth) doesn't directly affect them. Secondly, the other type of the 'I don't care' attitude is not wanting to hear something that counters your beliefs, i.e. the parents story that sniper relayed.

Unfortunately I think that most Americans dont care about the truth, whatever that may be. As long as their own personal little bubble isnt popped and them and those they know arent affected by said problem then most of the time, sadly, they are indifferent to what goes on in society and the world as a whole.

Honestly, I wouldn't be as caring about this if they just let me have pot. It would still bother me greatly but pot is one of those vices that I have and find it unfair that people who smoke and drink can have their shit and I can't have mine. So that's why I have no choice but fight the system...by ranting on a message board about a radio show with fart jokes.

I feel your pain when it comes to pot, the double standard when it comes to weed in this country really pisses me off. Back to the topic, I think some people can't handle the truth, that is why there are so mant conspiracy theroies out there. I think its up to people as individuals, to go out there and seek the truth. Do a little research, listen to all aspects of an argument, and make a decision on your own. Then you go can go back and enjoy what little time you have on this planet. Because in the grand scheme of things, that is the only thing that truly matters.
