Was thinking about how much joy "The Opster" (ewwww) brings to us all. While he's shown considerable comedic chops in recent years, let's not forget that Opie made his mark by being the Master of Cringe Radio!
I tried to think of the best/douchechilling/stomach turning Opie moments that made Anthony (and later Jimmy) want to bury their heads in the sand like fucking ostriches and came up with 10 that I remember vividly (from AAF-NEW-XM ONLY-FREE FM/XM/K-ROCK).
Please vote for your favorite and we'll see what Wackbaggers thought was the worst of the best (or vice versa).
Poll notes:
-If you select "write in" please be as specific as possible.
-This is an "Evil Opie" poll, not an "evil O&A" poll. So Opie humilating Patti and having her wig snatched off is an "Evil Opie moment"; convincing some schmucko that he won $100,000 instead of a candy bar is an "evil O&A moment. Let the fancy man have his separate share of the glory.
-I didn't intentionally omit anything from the BAB days. I just didn't hear much that qualifies for this poll. If Opie did anything other than "Spuds Buckley" that's considered cringe radio, please write it in.
-I'll set the poll to close two weeks from this Monday.

Not sure that really qualifies. It's more of a story that happened off air than an on-air incident.
We'll see if others pick it.

I don't know, it just says, "Evil Opie" moments. No mention of on-air stuff.
I'd say telling the kid there's no Santa is the worse. The Patty's wig thing is bad, but she ended up coming back, so the evilness' effect was easily reserved.. though it might just be Stalker P.. New name for her, Stalker P.
Anyways, Kid/Santa is worse, because as we all have experienced (or at least, most of us) that lost of innocents is something that you NEVER get back. That kid is probably bitter like the rest of us.

My sloppiness. Should have noted that it was meant to be an on-air moment.
Also, there's no rule about the lasting effects of the moment. It's all about hearing it on the radio at the time and thinking "what the fuck is wrong with this guy?!? Does he not have a soul?"
Regarding the listed moments, Tommy Lee did the show years later and everything was cool with the boys. Patti keeps coming back for constant abuse. Hell, Opie ended up respecting and befriending Al Dukes, an impossibility if you listened to the entire saga during O&A's vacation.

I am sorry the correct quote is "That is property of the radio station."
I forgot how much Norton was upset by the bit.
The reason I choose that one is that that was the first time I was exposed to evil Opie.
After that I laugh my ass off when Evil Opie shows up.

I haven't heard quite a few of those moments, but telling a little kid there's no Santa is pure evil (and pure hilarity). I don't blame him for doing it though.

There's a lot of great evil moments from Opie (The Richard Jeni Midnight Express Interview for example) but when something ends up on FOX News during an O+A are Evil segment, that gets some Evil Props.
The Santa Call, evil, yes, but when your father is as retarded as that kid's was, Opie might have been the best thing to happen to that kid.
Chester's Liver is a good choice though.

Good choice. I didn't list that because it seemed like more of an O&A collective bit. But Opie was definitely the antagonist in that one (did you vote "write in")?
For the record, the bit was "has been corner." O&A would call a former star in the entertainment world and ask them similar "what have you been up to" questions before hitting them with insulting questions about "when did it all go downhill for you?"
The Cindy Williams bit was particularly hard to listen to because you could hear the hurt in her voice. She genuinely thought it was just a phoner for a standard radio show and wasn't expecting to be humilated. She hung up feeling dejected and the boys (well, let's be honest, Anthony) felt they might have gone too far with that one.

On air? The cake for me, maybe only because it's recent.
Off air... punting a certain dog in a certain organ for sure. Michael Vick would be proud, Op.

The guitar smashing was all Opie. But Jimmy started the "fiddling" catchphrase when the old codger in the studio constantly messing with the dials on his shitty speaker which made every note sound awful.

From an old WNEW AFRO or ROF Show when he tells the girl who was obsessed with him on the phone..."Do you think I care about your miserable life?" and she started to cry.
That or the Dominatrix Show on Ron And Fez when Opie walks in and says: Hey Look: Joey Ramone and the dominatrix cries...
Oh and that interview with the gay French guy from Hogan's Heroes

QFT. What made it even more brutal and even funnier, was the next day's show and some of the listeners calling the FU line and yelling at the boys.

:clap: How bad was the Patti moment for me? I didn't tune into the show for days after it. I was that disgusted that Opie took the bit as far as he did. Honestly, I wasn't sure I was going to tune in again, but like a drug, I couldn't stay away (although SFS3 ended up being detox!)
Because of this, I missed Opie's excuse for his cruelty (Patti brought this upon herself; she moved under the NEW staircase) as well as the follow-up voicemails Patti left where she made it as if the boys were just joking around and it didn't seem to impact her or her life at all. That's when I realized she's hopeless and what Opie did was deserved. And it took the show moving to satellite radio to truly appreciate the evil genius Opie is.
Still, at the time, I had never felt so bad for a radio victim like I did Patti, despite how pathetic she was before this. And if Opie would have been savagely beaten in an alley shortly after, it would have been justified.

The poker chips were just funny, that chick was annoying. Also, the chips weren't custom. They were just the cheap old plastic ones, that's why it sounded so great.
The Patty de-wigging had to be his most evil moment, it just so happens to be my favorite Opie moment.

I'm going with 'Cake Stomp'. It has to be the most evil, because I laughed the hardest. Destroying a homeless man's food is pure evil / hilarious.
A close 2nd would be 'Take The Wig', because it publicly embarrassed a human being and made her cry. Which was fantastic.
Wow, we're are sick people for liking all this ;)

Someday, I will have to tell the FULL story of what happened, and there were no "voicemails". I actually didn't have an opportunity to "call" the show for two years after that, when they came on the air again, for XM. YES! I voted for myself too! Nice to be in first place for CRINGE RADIO..wanna hear my rock scream now?:action-sm

I haven't heard all the bits either, but when he smashed the homeless guy's guitar it was pure cringe. That guitar was all he had in this world, and the poor fucker started crying. The worst part of it was Opie let him suffer for the longest time before letting him know he was getting a brand new guitar.

multiple choice would have been great
I wanted to but wasnt sure if you could limit how many can be selected (didn't want anyone to click them all because "they're all great.") If I could have limited it to 2-4 selections I would have done it.
One choice was the best way to get an accurate top 10 list from this.

1. Robert Clary
2. take the wig
3. no Santa
and not the cruelest, but one of my favs will always be Steve the whistler, Ant hiding laughing so hard, and when Norton's quote of "I have no problem looking at Steve, it's you I can't look at" and Opie "the CD is skipping, it must be skipping....yeah look it's skipping"

True...all of these events show just how evil Opie can be.
But you really have to think about it -
Kicking a dog hard enough so that it doesn't last to the end of the week.
Everyone else lived to tell the tale of Opie's evil wrath...
All except poor lil' Chester.

I voted for telling the kid about there being no santa, because (a) it really was truly evil and made the kid cry, and (b) unlike a lot of the other examples, he never "mended fences." As for patti and the wig, the cake, the guitar breaking, etc., opie or the show made subsequent "amends" (they let patti back on/gave her $$, they gave andrew $$ to compenstate, gave the guy another guitar). With the kid it was pure evil, and it stayed that way.

i went with the cake stomp. it was pure evil...a man with so much took away something so sweet from a man with so little, who actually wanted to share it with fancy gentlemen.
I haven't heard all the bits either, but when he smashed the homeless guy's guitar it was pure cringe. That guitar was all he had in this world, and the poor fucker started crying. I voted for this one as well. The cake stomp was bad, but that was just stale food that would have been gone in a day or so anyway. The guitar that was smashed was pretty much the only thing that guy looked like he had as a possession for years.

The cold calculating progression to Op smashing homeless guy's guitar was horrible. Even though the boys gave him a new one, it was terrible to hear a guy have his only worldly possession destroyed in front of his eyes.
I think the best is yet to come.

although not as evil as many of those choices, my write-in vote would probably only be recognizable to die-hards at this point (since it never seems to come up in worst-of shows):.....
Opie to female caller: "Do you think I care about your little life?"
jaded folks will think he was hamming it up, but it didn't feel like a bit when he said it.

I'm going with the write-in option. I think Opie's trashing of Ed Asner was classic. What makes it evil is that Jimmy and Joe Rogan were there, and loved him, but Ant was playing poker so he wasn't there to smooth things out like he sometimes does. Also, when asked what his name was by Ed, Opie replied, "Anthony." EVIL
I can't believe he did that to a legend like Ed, who was arguably on one of the top 5 TV comedies of all time.
And to get Ed to lob a few F bombs as he was leaving was awesome.
Then I think it made Sean Hannity's show to boot.
I haven't heard this on a replay in a while, so here's the files.
