C'mon Jardine, be the "Dean of Mean" tonight. I'm excited for the Fitch/Sanchez fight.

And Shogun hopefully shows why a ton of people call him the best 205 in the sport.

mik3
09-22-2007, 08:55 PM
I voted for Shogun, 'cause I mark out hard for him.

Fitch/Sanchez will be interesting. Fitch has totally grown on me but I also grew to like Sanchez mainly based on the fact I think Koscheck is a douche bag.

burky79
09-22-2007, 09:02 PM
yup Shogun and Nightmare are the 2 i think are really promising.

I think Koscheck is a douche bag.

Agree with you there 100%. My favorite Koscheck fight was when he was dominating Fickett who then proceeded to choke him out of nowhere. Koscheck being awoken via smelling salts afterward was pure gold.

It's hard to not like a guy with a beard as sweet as Fitch's also.

Capt.Caveman
09-22-2007, 10:36 PM
I have a feeling about forrest tonite. coming off a loss. the guys a hard worker. and a lot of sho guns aresenal is out now, soccer kicks, downed knees. I like both guys But i'd like to see forrest pull this one out

mendozathejew
09-22-2007, 10:43 PM
Im curious if shogun will still stomp to the body

the guy has a great overall game. but like alot of muay thai fighters the boxing gets sloppy at times. He loses stomps and kicks to the head of a downed opponent, but he gains use of the elbows, which even in pride he was great at when dropping them to the body.

And I think this is going to be another great fight. I honestly think Liddell/Jardine will be the least exciting fight of the night.

Nakamura started off well this round, when he got swept he lost all the momentum.

mik3
09-23-2007, 12:08 AM
Well, Nakamura isn't terrible, and he has good submission defense.

Like was said though, he'd probably be a good 185.

burky79
09-23-2007, 12:08 AM
better be 30-27 accross the board for Machida.

that was a lot less technical and exciting than the first fight...

And wow, Fitch getting out of that triangle.

burky79
09-23-2007, 12:38 AM
Fitch is a F-in animal!!!

Fitch ---

mik3
09-23-2007, 12:39 AM

mendozathejew
09-23-2007, 12:39 AM
all fitch. nice sub attempts from sanchez but they were just a distraction from fitch's body shots and elbows

diego is a tough little savage but he was dominated. they put him up against the two toughest opponents for him. fitch and kos are just too talented wrestlers for him.

09-23-2007, 12:44 AM
is there gonna be a ko/sub tonite?

burky79
09-23-2007, 12:46 AM
give it up for both...

Fitch was an animal...

but he couldnt finish anything he was givin.

Diego didnt make a good enough effort to beat up on Fitch, soften him up before submitting.

good fight.

Fitch all the way and hope the next fight for both Fitch and diego are better matched.

Capt.Caveman
09-23-2007, 12:47 AM

There should be a rematch here, one where shogun actually does any kind of cardio.

He was more outlasted than beaten.

i dunno about outlasted... check out the knots and cuts on his head tomorrow and say he wasnt beaten... Forest hits with bricks man.

he def underestimated the striking power of Forest and the strong hads/grip that allowed him to not get beat on the ground by Rua

Capt.Caveman
09-23-2007, 01:26 AM
granted shogun just got married, and thats probably a reason that he had no gas tank, but still its not excuse at this level. I dont think he underestimated forrest. he blew it

UFC guys really like to ignore that rampage and silva are the champs at 205 and 185. COuture is great but he just said all the pride guys didnt do well.

you gotta admit the recent trends speak for themselves. it is a totally different ballgame in a cage. rampage and silva trained for it. cro cop didn't rua and henderson i don't know

mik3
09-23-2007, 01:27 AM
Yeah, he definitely looked past a fighter he probably should have stopped in the first two rounds. That usually makes for a fun rematch. Like Lennox Lewis/Hasim Rahman

Henderson probably would beat every 185 not named Anderson Silva, and that'd be a good fight itself.

the cage made a huge difference for cro cop. he doesnt adjust well though. shogun adjusted fine. but he gassed in round 2. early in round two. he could barely keep his hands up with 9 minutes left in the fight.

thats a joke. forrest deserved the win cause he trained for it. he does what he does time in time out. hes not that talented, but hes consistent and doesnt leave room for error.

I thought was 3 rounds to 0. round 1 was close but in a complete stand up match you had ring generalship vs harder punches. but I thought the leg kicks from jardine did more damage in the first round than the punches from liddell, and I think that showed over the next two rounds

Pretty much sums it up. Put him against ground guys or middle of the road guys and he'll put them on their back.

He's not a smart fighter anymore. He didn't do anything to avoid the kicks, just kept coming at him. The reason he looked good in the first round is due to letting Jardine come to him.

It's like his ego took over in the second and third, especially after he got dropped.

rampage got KOd brutally both times. even though he was dominating early in both fights

I think hes got a much better shot now. the cage helps. his training is far far superior now. he barely trained in japan, his camp barely provided anything. he was the red headed step child over there in Pride. or the nappy headed....nevermind

I went 4-5, and I wish I would have thrown more significant money down, especially on the Griffin-Rua fight.

Thanks for these clips, "cunt"

Which goes to show that anyone can get beat at anytime.

"Its why they have the fights"

No one is invincible.

This PPV only reinforced that.

Especially if you "get caught" (be it a strike to the chin or temple, or a triangle choke).

Its what makes this the most exciting sport in the world.

I upped the size on that why they have fights quote because i have to share this one, that i completely forgot to post about before...

gf and i at BW3's in reynoldsburg last weekend...

random dipshit sat next to my gf and i at the bar, while i was playing the Buzztime trivia and one of the questions was MMA related and i commented to my gf - "cant wait for next weekends (last nights UFC 76) fights."

anyway said dipshit proceeded to lay on me "That shit's all set up anyway".

You can imagine my surprise and I thought... ya know, he must be confused with WWF or something.

I say "No man, it's professional wrestling that's setup, with an outline to the matches, not the mixed martial arts."

he replied "They're both setup the same and the ultimate fighting thing is just the new pro-wrestling"

anyway, we went into a 5 minute debate of why its apples and oranges.

the point of this post (which i'm sure to take crap for) is that i wanted to know if anyone else here has had someone say that UFC is all a fix for the vegas odds (that was his final driving point, btw.)?

thats the first time i had ever heard of that thought... he thought it was all scripted and the fighters were fed info between rounds and all that bs.

anyway...

Anyone ever hear that UFC is all a setup?

Never heard that. I look back to the UFC's early days of no weight classes and i think that might have been a fix for odds type thing, but the way it was run back then also almost got it banned in the US.
But these days? No way it's fake. Just look at how might tighter knit the matches in the weight classes are. And do you really think Cro-cop could "act" his leg twisting that way when he got knocked out in UFC 70?
There's certain things you can do with live special effects, but some of the things that happen in UFC fights aren't it.
Something else worth mentioning, the portrayed realism in professional wrestling went away with the rise of the internet, and the quickness of getting information out. If there was some shenanigans going on like that we'd know about it through some disgruntled ex employee via the net, in addition spread that throughout the MMA community... The former Pride, Bodog, the new one on the Versus channel (the name escapes me extreme cage fighting?). Anyways, we'd know about it, it's hard to keep secrets these days.

Now i'm not saying there aren't "fight fixes", i mean their using boxing's judging system, so the fixing could still be there, but I don't think it's as prevalent as it is in boxing.
