I don't know WHY I'm posting this on an O&A message board, I know I'm gonna regret it, and I know 99.9% of the replys aren't gonna be serious, but oh well, I just need to vent a little.
I posted this on my Myspace blog http://www.myspace.com/zeldafreak and I said it was about my friend, but it's actually about me. It' the newest blog I have up there. Here's what I posted:
I have this friend, who absolutely hates his job, and wants out really bad. He tells me that he kinda has a feeling that certian people are acting like his friend, while behind the scenes, theyre trying to do an investigation to fire him or get him fired. He tells me he's willing to work, but while he's working, he's gonna look for a new job, because, once again, he hates his job. He knows there's at least a couple people in management that hate him, and he really wants nothing to do with them. He doesn't want them comming up to him to talk to him, he wants basically no contact with them. Obviously, he has to work with them, but he doesn't want any contact with them. I went into where he works a couple of times since he started there, and I've hung out with him and some of the people he works with, and they all seem friendly and cool, so, obviously, he's friends with most of the people he works with. It seems like it's just those two people in management, and whoever "the mole(s)" is/are who don't like him. He's been wanting out of his job for a long time, and now he's finally ready to get out.
Does anyone have any advice?
let's see how many people actually reply with serious advice....................

Did you do something that the "friends" can get you fired for? Sounds shitty, but if you can suck it up until you find another job I'd do that. If it's absolutely intolerable and you can float yourself until you find another source of income I'd quit now though.

If you are doing something that you can get fired for stop doing it. Play their game and like seeinred said, suck it up until you find another job.
I spent a year in a place that I absolutely hated. I dreaded each and every day going into work. Yet, if the psycho boss sensed that I was unhappy or even thinking about finding another job, would have been fired. I hung in there an faked it for a year, still did the best job I could and got the hell out of there asap.

I have this friend who thinks that you come across like a whiney girly man.
My friend said that dead-end retail sales jobs are a dime a dozen, and you should man up and just quit this one and get another one.
My friend also said that before you quit you should sabotage all of the forklifts, and ambush "the mole" in the parking lot some night and give him a brutal beat down.
That's what my friend thinks.

get used to it, most places you will ever work will have someone who doesn't like you. you won't like everyone you work with either, learn to ignore peoples attitudes or become self employed.
Get another job.
5 years ago I finally got a job that I had wanted for a long time. The company was good, the people were great and the job itself ruled. But unfortunately my boss was a fucking asshole racist that had it out for whitey. I tolerated it for 2 years and then I just couldn't take it anymore.
I went almost 6 months before I found another job (in a completely different field BTW) but now I'm as happy as a clam and never look back on that place. Although it was my "dream job", quitting there was the best decision I've ever made.

Rarely will you find a job where there isn't *something* sucky about it. It just depends on whether you can live with it. I couldn't live with the tremendous amount of OT (on salary) and shitty raise, so I left. The current job isn't the best, either, but it pays well and I have weekends & holidays off.
If you're that miserable, find another job. Go to a recruiter & ask them to help you out. If it's horrendously awful & you don't need benefits, sign up with a temp agency & give your two weeks notice.

I had to speak in the 3rd person, because late last year/early this year I started talking shit on my Myspace about one of the asistant managers that I know hates me, and he told HR. Thank God the HR manager at the time liked me. She (the HR manager) wound up getting fired a couple months ago.

You needed 'a guy' to get you a job at Home Depot? Like you needed a connection? Isn't HD one of those places where you just walk in and fill out an application?
Oh, I just remembered this...
This hospital where I used to work... this black lady comes into the hospital one day with her baby daddy to apply for some crappy unit clerk job. While she's in HR filling out an application, her baby daddy is waiting for her in the front lobby. I guess he got bored because he decided to steal the purse of a lady in the lobby. He grabs the purse and strolls out into the parking lot and stashes it in his car, then the ballsy fucker walks back into the lobby and sits right back down next to the lady whose purse he just swiped! His baby momma comes out later, and they leave.
The lady finally notices her purse is missing and she reports it to Security. Security reviews the security cam tapes, and bingo, they see the whole thing go down. They see him come in and leave with the lady who applied for the job, so they go to HR, get her address off the application, call the cops... who quickly send Clancy and the boys to surround the house. Sure enough, the cops are waiting when Baby Daddy rolls up to drop off Baby Momma, and they catch him red-handed with the purse in the car.
Story over, right?
Nope... the HR manager of the hospital (another female nagger) decides to give her Nubian sistah a chance, after all, she's a victim too. :icon_roll and they fucking hire her!
So two months go by, and suddenly the hospital starts experiencing a rash of reports of thefts of patient property. Where previously there were 4 reports per year, suddenly they're seeing 3 cases per week. The Security Dept. compares the dates, times, and places of the thefts to Baby Momma's work schedule, and guess what?

If you always do what you always did
You'll always get what you always got.
In other words, stop complaining and do something about your situation. Find another job - retailers are starting to hire and even though a lot of them are temp for the holidays, there are also jobs that are permanent and many that offer benefits if you need them.
Just heed the warning of everyone - no matter what job you take, there are always going to be people that don't like you and will try to make your life a living hell. It's like that in life - not everyone you meet is going to be your friend.
Put on your big boy panties and do something. Look in the newspaper, check Craig's List, go to a recruiter. If the one who got you the job isn't calling you back, call another one. The only one who can change your situation is you
Jesus, this is about a gig a HOME DEPOT? Can't you get a job in the same pay range just about anywhere..? Lowes, McDonald's, etc... just quit ya big sissy.

Jim, I dont know what you do in your line of work. I know how hard it is to find another job. I would post my resume EVERYWHERE to get out of that situation. Do you work for men managers? The reason I am asking is because they sound like what bitchy women managers do. They pretend to be friendly; but all they are doing is sizing you up. If they are Men, then I have no comment... Life is way to short to be miserable in your job. For the time being, go to work, get a paycheck and dont really associate with other people. When you are ready to quit, give them a few days notice only. When you feel like the pressure is too much, then quit. Its always better to quit a job then to get fired. Good luck and keep us posted on your new job findings.

Not if he's fired "for cause", and any manager who has even half of his/her shit together can pull documentation for cause out of their asses... even if it's complete bullshit, it'll cover their asses with the labor board and the unemployment claim will be denied. Mind you... playing the race or sex card often works when pleading your case before the labor board, because, as we all know, the poor exploited minorities and downtrodden womenses can't be held accountable for their actions... being that all minorities and females are irresponsible children in the eyes of the bleeding hearts.
If you're a white male... don't even bother to appeal if your ex-employer contests your claim. You are a white man and therefore you are Satan himself.

I've been fortunate enough to never have been fired from a job. Naively I thought that if you were fired you could collect, but again, that's rather naive. I think jimmyjimjimz once mentioned that he spoke with a stutter ... if he were to get fired, even "for cause", would he be able to try claiming it was actually as a result of the stutter that he was fired? Or would that be stretching the handicap card to its limit?

Well... unless he developed the stutter "on the job"...
I mean, if the company hired a stutterer in the first place, it'd be kinda hard to argue that they fired him because of the stutter.
It'd be like a retard claiming that Wal Mart fired him because he's a tard. It'd be a weak argument... being that there is an employed tard at the front door of just about every Wal Mart in the nation.

If you have to be a lot associate in another store where there is less stress then so be it. It's only a temporary fix Jimmy, but at least it gets you out of the situation you're in now until another job opens up. Look at Best Buy if that's where you want to work, but don't discount the other retailers in the area. One of them might have better starting salary & benefits than Best Buy.

I know you don't wan't to hear this but you have a disablity man, so there are many jobs that you of course want to stay away from because you know people will be kind of shocked hearing you speak. It's ok man.
Just think bigger bro. You like computers right? Well, what part of computing do you like? Do you just like the hardware or do you like to do creative things like web design?
If you like working with graphics then you can get an associates degree in design/advertising and work for an advertising company making flyers, web page layouts, promotional items and magazine layouts.

If you hate it so much then quit and get another one or kill yourself mentally and keep it.

I got the stupid fucking gay cart pushing job through Goodwill. I E-Mailed the guy who got me that job about a week ago and told him I'm really miserable there, and I'd like to try to get something at Best Buy. He still hasn't got back to me. I think the reason he got me the cart pushing job is because there's not much comunication, and he thought it was good for me. It was good at first, but then summer came, and I was the only person in my department, so I had to stay outside all fucking day, then, of course, winter came, and I had to freeze my balls off all winter. They finally got me help, but they still ask me to do the shit jobs (they wanted me to wash bird sit off a bunch of carts the last day I worked, which was 10/13). I'm not the new guy anymore. I shouldnt have to do those jobs.I've been there a year and a half. Thursday it's gonna officially be a year and 7 months since I started. I don't wanna do shit jobs anymore. Plus, I know more about the shit they sell at places like Best Buy and Circuit City than half the shit they sell at Home Depot. I've been there a year and a half, and I still don't know a thing about home improvement shit. Even if they put me out on the floor at Circuit City or Best Buy, I'll know what I'm talking about. If they put me out on the floor at Home Depot, I have no clue what the fuck the customers are asking me (most of them don't speak much english anyway), and I have no clue what to tell them.

The only problem with me working in Valley Stream is that I don't drive. I took driving lessons a while ago, and I got freaked out in the car, plus the driving teacher was an old man who kept yelling at me. So, I'm better off trying by Queens Center. There's a bus from Rockaway that stops right in front of the mall.

I was working 60 hours a week while going to school part time to get my associates. It was hard & I had a few setbacks because of the bipolar disorder, but the end result was great - I don't know who was prouder - my father or me.
Point is, Jimmy, if you want something badly enough, you'll go after it no matter what you have to do to attain that goal.
Best Buy in Westbury is starting to hire in for the holiday season. I'm guessing the other Best Buys are as well. If that's where you want to work, get over to the nearest Best Buy and put in your application. Make sure that you let them know that while you're applying for holiday help you're hopeful that they'll like your work and will keep you on after the holidays. And while a lot of people are too proud to do so, you might want to think about playing the handicapped card. It might help a little.
Good luck

They can't say anything about your disability if they give you a reason for not hiring you. It is against the law to not hire someone because of a disability thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
If they say anything about that as a reason for not hiring you then you have either a job or they have a lawsuit.

You're right about that Sam ... I was thinking more in terms of maybe Best Buy, or any other retailer, has a quota for disability hiring. If that's the case, Jimmy might be able to get the job easier by by virtue of his having said disability.
Guess it was a crappy idea :icon_redf

The guy who got me the shitty job @ Home Depot basically gets jobs for people with disabilities for a living. Also, most retail places give some sort of test at the begining of the application. I know Home Depot did when I applied. The guy who got me the job has the answer key to those tests. So, it's better if I go over the application with him, because he'll give me the answers, and he'll tell me what to put down on the application.

Has he called you back yet, Jimmy?
Other than the stuttering, do you have any other disabilities? What I'm trying to figure out is if you'd be able to take the test without having the answers given to you. What kind of questions did they ask? Is it possible for you to go down to the Best Buy and apply without the guy referring you?

Nah, he hasn't called me back yet.
I know I'd be able to take the tests without the answer key. It might take some time, though. I think most retail places only do applications online these days. Another problem I have is that I don't know what to do after I'm done with the application. It's a lot easier if someone comes with me to do this. I really don't know what exactly I have to do.

In most cases, after you fill out the application, you give it back to the person who gave it to you, which hopefully is the manager.
Since this guy hasn't called you back yet, is there someone else, a friend maybe, who could go down to Best Buy with you?

Fill out the application. If it's on-line, do it that way. (I know Target has a kiosk in every store for filling out applications.) Whichever way you decide, either in person at the store or at home, I would put in the application ASAP. It may take some time (a week or two) for someone to get back to you.
Also, try some temp agencies. If you want to work while you go to school, that may be the way to go. They might place in you in an office doing the work you want to do, or maybe doing clerical stuff where you won't have to speak to many people (ie, the stutter isn't an issue).

I guess either my parents or my brother can come with me. The only thing about my dad is that I dont think he wants me to leave Home Depot. I told him I dont wanna work there anymore, and he started freaking out. I really thought he'd be supportive, but he started screaming at me. My mom has always been supportive, and my brother can basically care less where I work.

I tried clerical work, I had an internship doing it, and it was so boring. I'd rather not do clerical work.

UPDATE:
Every fucking time I go back to Home Depot to talk to the manager, he's not there. I went back today with my dad, and one of the asistant managers yelled at me for being there. What a douche. I'm starting to think of getting something closer to home, like maybe a local supermarket, for now. I think it would be much easier for me to get something at a local supermarket or drug store, because I think most of these places hire from the neighborhood first, and the closest Best Buy I know how to get to isn't exactly in my neighborhood. I'm going back to the people who helped me get the Home Depot job next week. Hopefully I'll find something sooner than later.

I'm late on this thread. I worked retail for the past 7 years in a very prominent Sports Memorabilia company (I'm sure there is one of our chains in your mall if you live in the East). After 7 years of being a manager, I kept waiting a promotion to District Manager. Instead I took over a new store they were opening. I did everything by the book, I took my store to a top-3 in the company in our 1st year of being open for business, and they still passed me up for promotion, because they wanted to promote some 23-year old wigger since he was the bosses son. It was at that point I realized there is no freaking money in retail unless you own the business.
So I decided to leave retail completely and entered the world of Financial Services. I spent the last year studying, taking tests, and becoming adept in so many different aspects of insurance and financial planning. Now I am sitting in my office every day thinking who I can help. And that is a very cool thing. I thought I would hate this business because it is all paperwork and boring, but instead it has been so rewarding. The other day I set up a college savings plan for my best-friend's child who was born on 11/03 and left there feeling great about it. My commision on that case was $40 annual, but I didn't care because I went home feeling really good about myself because someone I care about's child will go to college because of me.
