Anyone have experience with personal trainers? How long do you give one to get you some kind of results if you're doing your part (diet, effort, etc.)?

I've been seeing one for 3 weeks now and I'm already about to go find someone/something else because my waistline hasn't shrunk, nor has my neckline increased one bit. I've gotten stronger but the Army doesn't care about that; it's about the waistline and neckline. Am I jumping the gun?

I think you may be jumping the gun. I never had a personal trainer but I worked out like a maniac for a while till I started noticing a difference. I even gained a couple pounds in the first couple weeks. It does take some time. If you feel like absolute shit after this trainer works with you I would say hes on a good track.

Your jumping the gun stick with the program it takes time give it another month and if your doing everything correct Diet, Cardio, Weight training, you should definitely start to see the difference. Iv been there done that it takes time. Your body has to get use to the change that you are putting it through once that happens its go time you'll be a fat burning machine and you should see the difference.
But give it some more time.

I would look for a personal trainer that has experience with what you need: meeting army measurement requirements. My younger brother had trouble with the measurements, too. Specifically the neck. I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to change that.

Call my friend Rick Derris. He's based out of Leonardo, NJ. He owns a Trans Am so you KNOW he's gotta be good.

The military uses an ancient system for deciding whether one is "overweight".

They first measure height vs weight, and if you're considered too heavy for your height they do what's called the "rope and choke", which is a measurement of your waist and your neck, then you take those measurements to a table and if neck's bigger than X and waist is smaller than Y, you're not a fatty.

All that being said the most fit guy in my division... Something Palmeri, don't remember... he failed every weight thing we had, he was not only the fastest runner, he could lift more, do more of every exercise, etc, and he was considered fat by their standards because he was born with a strangely narrow neck.
