The Original by a mile for me. Never understood the flashback scenes in Part II. I'm sure he was trying to do something there, but I've never been able to figure out what purpose they serve besides giving Bobby D a big payday.

I like part 1 a lot more. The flashbacks in II are the only good parts. I didn't care about Vegas or Congress. Those parts always put me to sleep. Even though we see Michael fully turn evil.

Its so fucked up, its genius...Also The last scene of 2 is one of my favorite scenes ever.....Seeing the whole family and tessio waiting at the dinner table to surprise Vito....And you see Sonny Introduce The scumbag who eventually marrys connie and betrays the family.....

Tough call. if you add the version that combined godfather 1 and 2 and made them chronological I would go with that. having 3 up there as anything but a goof is just wrong.

I guess I'd vote with the original but GF2 would be a very close second on my list.

its the Godfather Saga...i am not sure if they made it on DVD...it seem to be a made for tv thing...it combined parts 1 and 2 putting the flashback scenes first in order then the other scenes...

and for me Godfather 1 is king....then part 2 and i am not sure how much i enjoy part 3...

Those scenes were in the Book the Godfather and never adapted in the film The Godfather. So they told the stories of father and son Corleone's rise to power

I always like part two just a little bit better, but part one was outstanding as well.

I liked part three as well but there were a couple of bad casting choices in it that did hurt the film. But otherwise I thought it was good, though not great like the previous two films.

They should make a movie today of like the Inbetween years..between the flashbacks and godfather 1. Like show Vito coming up even more...and show tessio, clemenza becoming capos and all that shit..show sonny as a teenager and the other kids...

The original. It reset the bar and re-invented the genre of the mobster movie.
It set what most other mobster movies afterward try to emulate. Which is not a bad thing.

I think Puzo was working on a script for GF IV before he died and I liked some of the areas they were going into. Granted Godfather III is a goddamn abortion and I don't even consider it ever created.
I like that the IV story was going to show the upcoming of Sonny to where he was in the first film. They were going to split it like II with the current time frame being Vincent Corleone's story going on to a violent end, which really I didn't care for, but the upcoming of Sonny and the Corleones would have been great to see play out. More fucking violence from Luca Brasi and Tessio and Clemenza doing their thing would have been great.

I agree, there was just so much wrong with it that its not even funny. Sonny's bastard kid, Connie running shit??? wtf?, Joe Zasa? ugh its just a bad fucking parody. Its only because Coppola needed to make it for a quick payday that it exists but its pretty bad regardless of when it came out.

I just watched all of them again recently...
The first one is by far my fav, but I gotta say, three does have some redeeming qualities for me.
I think Pacino is a completely different actor in three than he was in the first two, and I almost feel like he played a different character, not the same Michael...
I like Andy Garcia in it a lot though.

I can't remember what it was called, but as far as I know it was only done for TV... I think Bravo runs it from time to time... maybe "The Godfather: The Complete Saga" or something like that. They usually will do something like run GF 1-3 for 3 nights then on thr 4th night run the Complete thing

I'm embarrassed to admit I'm watching them for the first time right now (I'm in the middle of the Part III as I type). According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Hagen they scrapped the original screenplay when Duvall wanted equal pay as Pacino. The main plot was Hagen splitting from the family. That was an excellent character and I think that storyline could have put Part III on par with the other two.

By the way, I voted for Part II.
