A man who applied for a job as a police officer was arrested after the department conducted a background check.
Oliver Shea Wright, 20, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl in August, according to a police news release.
Wright, of the 300 block of Bexley Park Way, turned himself in to police Thursday. He was released on his own recognizance.
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a Class 1 misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $2,500 fine, police wrote in the release.

ummm, as i read it he is merely accused of a crime, not actually a criminal. is it possible that some one didn't want that guy to become a cop and decided to make up a bullshit story about him? some times those background checks can go kind of far, i hate people so much that i would not put it past some one to do some shit like that, and the police acting on it

I was in the hiring process for a couple of different agencies. They warned us that if we have anything to hide, it will be discovered and we'd be arrrested.
Most depts dig pretty deep.

Granted it wasn't a smart move to apply for this job knowing that he had this accusation in his background, and, of course police officers have to follow the law. I get it.
But, more generally, it's not like his "crime" is so bad IMHO. Age of consent laws in this country are ridiculous. They're just as stupid as laws in this country regarding legal age for drinking alcohol. Religious fanatics still have a stranglehold on this country, unfortunately.
Check out the Age of Consent laws in Europe. 15 years old is legal in most of Europe.

The biggest thing that background checks are looking for isn't necessarily what you did but rather if you admit to it, and they are pretty extensive. The background check I went through went back 10 years. Prior jobs, criminal reports, school, past relationships, current relationships, and credit reports were all included.
But again, they aren't looking for angels (although obviously some things are going to get you denied immediately), they're looking for honesty. They want to see if you are going to "own up" to any problems you had in your past more than anything else.

And if you're a really good one, they'll recruit you into the Rat Squad (a.k.a. Internal Affairs.)
