I honestly can not remember the last time I was this impressed by a speech.
Some highlights for the audio challenged.
"There are thousands of people across this planet that get up in the morning actively seeking to destroy the United States."
"You see a 12 year old boy in Pakistan saw off a mans head on video tape....where is the condemnation? "
"You know that the Iranian Government ran a cartoon last year, for children, aimed at recruiting 10 year olds to become suicide bombers.. on public television...at what point do you have to say enough?"
"When you're lectured by the Suadis on being respectful, when they do not allow any Jew or any Christian to practice their religion in Saudi Arabia, and we tolerate it?! When do you draw a line?"
"The Iranians are desperately trying to build nuclear weapons.. And. They. Will. Use them."
"We. Are. In. Trouble. And somebody better start talking about it in a blunt way."
"In less than 4 years, we defeated Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan......today it takes 23 years to add a 5th runway to the Atlanta airport."
"We are simply not prepared today to be a serious Country....and my fear is.......I am genuinely afraid...that this political system will not react until we lose a City... and no one in this Country, has thought about the threat to our civil liberties the morning after we decide it's that dangerous and how rapidly we will impose ruthlessness on ourselves in that kind of a world. I think those of you who care about civil liberties had better be thinking through how we win this war before the casualties get so great that the American people voluntarily give up a lot of those liberties."

Excellent points.
Sadly, I can see too many people focusing only on that last paragraph, and ignoring the rest. Especially his remarks about the threat of Iran.

When will CNN play this one ?
I do not know why the media continues to ignore the threat of Islam.
I can't imagine how things would be if the same assholes existed during the late '30s and early '40s.
We need a real man to lead this nation, not an empty suit that caters to everything that threatens the sovereignty of this nation.

My father retired as an active agent for the federal govt in 2000, I won't mention which agency but he was pretty high up in his division and very respected. Anyway I remember him saying to me quiet clearly on Sept. 12th 2001 that if that type of shit ever occurred again in this country, that is what it would take for the majority of Americans to understand what kind of total mindfuck mentality we are dealing with in the radical Islamic fundamentalists countries, and also that a second large attack would make alot of Americans realize how seriously we have to take our borders and civil rights would be basically fucked for any non American residents at that point, but the sad fact is that it would take another attack for most Americans to pull their heads out of their asses with this shit.
PS. If I see or hear one more stupid fuckin conspiracy post/website/toolbox my head is gonna fuckin explode.

After all, how are we supposed to worry about that when we have warning labels that need to be slapped on Sesame Street DVDs?

Most Americans would probably understand if that happened.
But I'm pessimistic enough to believe that a significant portion - and we all know who they are - would STILL claim that we brought such a thing on ourselves, and never attribute blame where it belongs.

"In less than 4 years, we defeated Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan......today it takes 23 years to add a 5th runway to the Atlanta airport."
So what's this say about our skills on the subject of Iraq? Pretty damning that we (well, that the Allies) took out those threats relatively quickly, yet we can't quell a bunch of Abduls driving 82 Toyota pickups as they're 'troop carriers' and armed with 20 year old Soviet guns.
Not for nothing, but we've been trying to control Iran for 50 years. As far as I'm concerned, we should be focusing first on controlling our borders. Although I think it's fairly clear that more lip-service than "doing" it happening on this issue. Hell we heard the first cries of this after it came to light that the people that hijacked the planes were trained in America. Yet here we are 6 years later and we're no closer to answers to that problem than we were on Sept. 12th, 2001.
Is Iran a problem? Of course. Should we be truly concerned? Of course. However we should also be able to easily recognize that if we can't control our own country and the threats that may be coming into it every day, we can't expect to handle a threat half way around the world. Besides, once you can get a grip on your own safety, you're in a better position to handle outside issues.
As for impeding on our civil rights, as far as I'm concerned, those civil rights should only be protected if they are American citizens. Everyone else can go shit in their hats. I could give a fuck if some 'student' from Jordan feels as though his civil rights are violated. If you're vacationing from Syria, your conversations may be monitored, that's just how it is. You don't like it, make changes in your home country. Don't bitch to us about being violated. One thing that pisses me off is when I see people fleeing these Middle East countries to come here, and once they get here they cry that we should do something to help their people. God forbid they put their lives on the line to try to fix problems themselves. If it ain't worth dying for, then it ain't worth fighting for in situations like this.
Sorry for the disconnected ramblings, just shooting thoughts off the top of my head.

yup i agree with you completely. the thing is if we lose a city the world is done cuz its not like we are going to lose some city with a population of 1000 he speaks with authority and understands what it would take to make things happen. i will have to get some of his books to read more of what he thinks and find out how accurate he was back in 1984. our government no matter what side they are on care more about watching their ass than doing a job.
That's oversimplifying history a bit. People forget just how damn hard it was to defeat the Axis countries back then - we had a lot more help in that war than this one, and regardless, people seem to think that the war ended when it did and everything was peachy keen, when in reality, it took YEARS and YEARS to rebuild Germany & Japan, just like it has with Iraq.
The other factor, of course, is that our military has still been trained to fight conventional enemies, rather than the unconventional forces like insurgents. That's why we kicked the shit out of the Iraqi military in practically no time at all, but the insurgency battle has raged on.

Yes, yes... those who give up freedom for security deserve neither and all that happy 18th century bullshit. But what's worse... what we're going through now? Or martial law when a city goes down? I know it's doomsday thinking, but you have to admit... in this day and age, it's incredibly possible.

That's not because of incompetence. It's because of all the fucking rules in place that for some reason... only our side has to abide by.

There is one and one person to blame for the micro-managing of this war. Donald Rumsfield and his inferiority complex to the CIA. Numbnuts was pisssed that CIA and a small amount of military forces were able to drive out the Taliban and Alqueda from Afghanastan in 2001. So instead of going with cent-com's original battle plan for Irag, he asked if the invasion force could be smaller.
