"XM lost a net 17,000 retail customers, who buy radios from Best Buy and other retail outlets, in the third quarter."

Predicted Car Sales Slump Shouldn't Impact XM

- 11/26 -

DC's XM Satellite Radio expects car radio sales to remain solid even if the most dire projections of slowing auto sales come true. The largest US satellite radio service provider, which is waiting for regulators to approve its proposed merger with rival Sirius Satellite Radio of NYC, relies almost entirely on car buyers for customer growth.

XM lost a net 17,000 retail customers, who buy radios from Best Buy and other retail outlets, in the third quarter. XM expects retail subscriber growth to resume in the fourth quarter due to the typically busy holiday shopping season, but retail sales may decline in the first or second quarter of 2008.

It appears that XM stopped any/all retail push because of this stoopid merger of :puke: equals. :puke:

they have to make this merger happen. this week in tech podcast talked about sat radio and how they liked it. they talk how the govt is a little cautious at having one sat company, well if they don't merge they might have one anyway. probably one goes bankrupt.

Fuck the merger....I just purchased an XM unit from our friends at MyRadioStore for our maintenance guy here at work for Christmas....he's been wanting one and just hasn't gotten around to getting it. I've been against the merger from the start just out of principle, never mind the bullshit since. So, one more XM unit purchased and to be activated in Dec 2007.

When XM has their employee appreciation carnival this year, they should definitely bring out the huge, inflatable "XM Stock Slide" again. LINGER LONGER.

The people I know who have expressed an interest in satellite radio are all waiting to see what happens with the merger before investing in a unit.

Yep, nobody wants to spend on something they think might be obselete soon. I don't blame them

You hafta think that the car companies are all over this merger. I think the fact of having the potential of driving a customer to your competitor because of their preference of Sirius or XM would make them want to be able to offer both and not be so exclusive.

The car radio option was never a problem anyway. 150 bucks got you an aftermarker unit either way. A salesman would never let a sale walk out the door over 150 bucks worth of aftermarket equipment.

I got rid of one of my retail units when I bought a new truck with a factory unit in it. I'm sure a lot of other people have done the same.
