Remember back in the day the boys, especially Jimmy, would just drop constant movie lines? It's honestly what got me into their show initially, cause Im a huge film nerd. Jimmy would always slip in "JFK" and Apocalypse Now and Godfather lines, even super obscure ones. And they would always work in Godfather sound clips. (You can act like a man! *slap*)
Ever since they came back to XM, it seems like they've sadly all but ditched the old movie jokes. But it seems like nary a day goes by where Ant doesnt go off on Fargo for a good five minutes whenever there's even a HINT of some kind of Fargo-y reference.
I was dying today at the end of the FM side when the guy called in, and Ope and Ant just talked about basically the whole movie and they parts they liked. I was laughing my ass off.
Fargo is one of the best movies ever. I hope they keep it up and work some sound clips in. Stan says it's pretty sweet. Stan, y'know....Grossman.

Ant tends to do the same quotes from Fargo, usually the "That's my deal, Wade" scene. I don't see him reaching that deep in for quotes, but then again I haven't listened yet today.

Absolutely.
I didn't start listening until spring '05, and I remember the ol' checklist gag ("Shining reference?" "check!")

Is Fargo the new Godfather? That was the question. You put it in the title. Once you read that, there is no point in reading the drivel you put in your post.

It's a perfectly good question. Is Fargo the new movie that Opie and Anthony quote constantly now. Given that Godfather was the one they quoted all the time before.
Yes, no, who cares. The question was fine.

i think the reason for the recent flux in fargo quotes would be that it is on showtime or hbo or something...saw it on the guide last week, and im assuming ant watched it so is now quoting it a lot...and no it's not the new godfather

It goes in cycles. A while back, every day they would make either Clockwork Orange or Shining references. Today it was Fargo.

I need to rent it. I thought it was overrated when I first saw it, so maybe I need to give it another watch/ another chance.

I just finished watching it. Good movie, not even close to Godfather. It's a story about a dumb hick cop catching even dumber bad guys. The acting is great, but the story is only just there.

i hated it when i first saw it.. but like a year later i had the theme in my head and memories coming back so i watched it again.. i love it
i've seen it several times since, including on youtube last week in 10 parts (was just looking for a scene but saw the whole movie and had to watch it all)
i got even better with all the O&A references to it.

"Is Erock the new Rick?"
Of course not. It's obvious Erock is the new name that rhymes with "Snazz"!
"What the F" is clearly a modern-day "Week in Review".

It's also one of the most perfect movies ever made. And doesn't have a shitty followup movie (Godfather 3) soiling its good name.

Are you out of your mind? Maybe you don't go deep enough into movies. When he worked Peter Clemence - Best Boy Grip into casual conversation, it was pure genius.

im gonna say i enjoy the references a little more that godfather. The reason is that everyone knows the godfather inside and out. Fargo is a little more obscure as references go.
