A friend sent me this link to the VW microsite showcasing their new SUV. I haven't really decided on what to make of it yet. Please feel free to share your feelings on it.

It looks nice. It has good engineering behind it, (Porsche / Audi). But I would never buy anything like that the first model year.
Plus all of the VW dealers in my area stink. I drive my neighbor to the dealer to pick up her car and there is always someone bitching about the service center.
I love VW's... especially mine...

Gotta agree with Stinkysteve.... never buy the 1st year
of anything unless it is limited production destined to be
worth alot of cash. Always takes a couple of years to work
out the bugs (no pun intended). Also, Nissan is making an
SUV that looks alot like it. People are looking for something
that doesn't ride like a truck. Fads are changin!

I like it. I'd like it even more if it had the Phaeton's running gear. :)
VW makes some good stuff. It's not quite BMW-level, but it's better than anything the Big 3 offer.

If there are no major problems with it I am considering buying the second model year next spring. Its supposed to be a hell of a car, not riding like a truck being more performence driven like the BMW X5. The base v6 is essentially loaded except for leather. I believe that the engine is actually based off of the VR6 for the Jetta/Golf which is great, its different than the Passat V6. Its more inline and offers better performence.
Then they have the v8 with only 340 hp and a v10 diesel coming out next year.
Not that I have researched this or anything. I love my VW's and now that they are trying to get them to compete with the other German cars they are getting better and better.

I have a 98 VW GTI VR6, and although I love the car, I have had so many problems with it, I would hesitate to ever buy a VW again.
I saw a story in the USA Today last week that spoke to VW's problem record, and its currently higher than the industry average (and that includes comparisons against American cars).
One of my buddies was buying a new car about 6 months ago. He was looking between a new A4, and a Subaru WRX. The dealer surprisingly sold VW, Audi, and Subaru, and told him to stay away from the VW's and Audi's because of the quality. He now drives the WRX, and what a hell of a car that is!

I sold my "gay" Jeep Liberty not too long ago and bought a BMW 330xi, and I love it. I'm considering buying an SUV because I still need one from time to time. I was looking at the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but this new VW looks kinda nice. Still, I really want to see it up close before I make a final decision.

Check out the Infinity RX-45. It looks gay on the TV commercials, but in person it looks very nice and sounds nicer. 315 hp. it sounded real nice when the guy jammed down on the accelerator going up a hill. But again it's a new model and it's bound to have some bugs in it.

You could also go with the Nissan Murano. It is basically the same as the Infinity with a much smaller price tag.
The problem with the VWs was the 98-00 models. They did major model changes at that time and with the 01-03 models they have changed a lot of their parts vendors to correct many of the problems they have been having as they were poor component quality related.
I am on my 3rd VW and there is little doubt that my next car will be one as well, unless something happens and I can get the A6.

Yeah, I like my VW's.
The only problem with the Murano is that it has a weak motor in it, almost 100 hp. less.
VW's are nice, but I WOULD wait for the second generation of it. Who knows, maybe by then they will put their new W8 engine in it, ( the W8 is designed so it is shorter than a conventional V6).

I hear ya! It's more like a glorified station wagon, than an SUV. My friend has one with two baby car seats in it. It's not something I take hiking in the mountains. But, as far as station wagons go, I wouldn't mind having the Tourafagfj if I had kids.

I will definately wait for the second generation. I got lucky on my first generation Jetta IV.
I believe that the V8 is actually the W8, but I am not certain.

One question, how do they have one? The car won't be released until June
