When I was 11, I went deepsea fishing down in Florida. Someone caught a blowfish, one without the spines. The first mate took the fish off the hook, dribbled it like a basketball, then hook shotted it out into the ocean.

When I was ~8 I got my line caught in some swampy brush right near the shore. I yanked the line and the hook got caught in my 5 year old sisters eyelid. Taa-Dah!
my buddy's son hooked a duck this summer
the thing was fuckin' flipping out
i was finally able to get it over to the dock and cut the line
as close to it's beak as i could
hope that hook disolves real soon

727 pound Blue Marlin off of the Big island, Kona in Hawaii. Not one hit all day except for nice size Bonita Tuna we caught for bait fish.
Then, it was fish on. Saw it jump entirely out of the water and then do the tail fin dance later. 2 1/2 hours to land it. 5 guys changed out. The colors when the thing expired were amazing.

I love fishing. I haven't gone much at all the last few years. But, that's changing this coming summer. My wife likes to go as well.
My best trip ever was an overnight deep sea trip 80 miles off the coast of NJ. We caught about 500 pounds of yellowfin tuna.

I had a great fishing story, but it got away.
I bought a new saltwater pole and went fishing with it the same day. I have the worst fucking luck surf fishing and usually never catch shit. (luckily I do well on a boat or in fresh water). Anyway. I stuck my pole in the pvc holder tube, thingy, whatever the fuck it's called, and turned around to cut up another piece of bunker (Holy shit does that smell and not wash off your hands). When I turned around my pole was gone. First cast of a brand new pole. Man was I shocked and pissed. I dove into the water at Sandy Hook and tried to swim and feel around for it hoping to miraculously get a hold of it.
After 30 minutes or so, I just gave up. I was still in such annoyed disbelief that I wouldn't go home. I kept thinking in my mind "This is bullshit, it's not fair" (fucking baby that I am) I think in my mind, I was expecting it to wash up on the beach and right this awful injustice against me. Anyway, I was just standing there with a cigar starring at the water muttering to my self like an asshole, when I see a guy that came after the incident reeling in a fish. He said, that he hooked something, but there really isn't any fight to it. I said to the guy that I would give him $20 if it turned out to be a red surf rod. I then told him my pitiful story. Sure enough, he ending up reeling in my pole. He gave it to me and refused to take any money. I had to clean and regrease the reel, but it was in otherwise perfect shape. I now refer to it as my lucky pole (boy is my cock jealous of it).
MAV and I have some good stories about [you] fishing. The best is when they start sending us PMs.
heh, i had to check just to be sure.
and yes, the stories are great!

When I was a kid I saw a couple black guys fishing in a boat in front of our place. Everytime I had seen black guys fishing they always asked me about good places to find carp. (Carp for those that dont know is a trash fish. If you hook one you throw it on the bank to die and let the birds eat it. ) Anyway I ask these black gents, "You guys catching any decent Carp?" They look at me like I was wearing a white robe and they said "What do we look like, a coule of Ni@@ers?"
I almost shit myself.
It was the first time I had ever seen black guys fishing for bass.
And this was back in the time when there was actually a restaurant in Birmingham called "Sambo's". It was like a Shoney's Big Boy (Friendlies?) instead of a white cherub like face with thick hair it was a Big Black faced lordy lord stereotype characature.

yeah
one of the kids fathers on the street back in the day
was a carp fisherman
always evening /night
he used to take us sometimes
make us a fire bring a pack of dogs and rolls
evetually when he got a strike he'd call us to reel in the other lines
took me a few years to realize he probably brought us
so he could legally have a bout 5 or 6 lines in the water

a few friends and I go fishing in Corpus off of piers (sp?). One day we were fishing for Black Drum. We set out a couple of lines and let them sit while we were working smaller rods catching bait. All of a sudden we here a rod just move. We stay looking and all of a sudden the line hauls ass and is running out quickly. We get the rod and try to control it but can't. We have other guys come help us and we still can't control it. We thought we had snagged a shark. The fish comes up and you see the back fin and looks like a shark. We get excited and then the line just snaps. We're all pissed off and fallow the waves in the water and stay looking hoping to see how big it was. We then see a dolphin jump up along with 3 others. We had hooked a dolphin. No way in the world were we going to bring that in. Not a "wow" story, but an exciting situation.

With all the time I spend on the water, I really don't fish much. When I do, I usually go out on either Round Valley or Spruce Run. Haven't had a boat suitable in a couple of years and just have been busy.
Lesse I caught some great stripped bass on raritan this past year.. what's cool is that we could bring them right to a chef & he'd cook them right up for nothing. Very nice. The bunker (bait fish) were nuts this year. Great sign for the bay as a whole. Spent a few nights just drinking beers and netting them... either to use/sell/or just swat off the dock with a bat. I used them as retribution for a work deal gone bad as well. Bloodied the fuckers boat right up.
Once when I was bringing a boat out of barnegat inlet, we almost were capsized by a whale... he was moving in and decided to whack the keel. Funny, but could have been worse.. no pics :(
I was waay off shore delivering back from Bermuda a few years ago and there were fish flying onto the boat. We all were getting whacked on our watches. Again, annoying as hell, but funny in hindsight. Nothing wakes you up better when you're alone on watch than some damn fish upside your head.

There was a guy at work from Morocco that always asked my friend and I to come fishing with him for porgies. We finally explained that white people usually don't go for that kind of fish. He looked at us puzzled, and then we asked him what kind of people he was usually surrounded by on the boat. He burst out laughing and realized what we meant. From that day forward, he always referred to black people as porgies. He would say "There are a lot of porgies in the emergency room tonight, or that patient that is coming is a big fat porgy." ETC, ETC. I eventually went with him and caught a bunch of porgies and fish too. There really are a bony fish. They don't taste bad, but unless you are deep frying them and melting those tiny bones, you will be picking them out of every bite that you eat.

oyster cracker. that was the day from hell. it was the first time we had taken my son out, it was ROUGH 3-4 in the bay quartering seas windy and over cast, and the little fucker out fished me. it was kind of funny seeing the terror in his face the first time a wave crashed over the bow, the crying i could do with out.... we finally had to go up the river to more protected waters, were that photo was taken, it was so rough out in the bay that you couldnt even bait a hook because you had to hold on to some thing or else you were getting thrown over
that's a helluva first trip for a kid

Club tourney today caught a 2-10 spot. Lucky craft jerkbait with twin trebles. Sharpest hooks made. I finally had to do the Pliers / rip. I said to myself Opie said you just got to jerk/pull I was laughing my ass off hearing that ripping sound and horrified that that bass could died getting me a 1/2 lb penalty. (And generally being pissed as I hate to kill a game-fish Im not going to eat). In the end he lived and was fine but I stink as a fisherman and a human being and came in 8th place, which doesn't sound bad except there was only 9 boats in tourney.

Some day I will have to talk about the fishing trip that ended in three shallow graves and a sheriff asking a bunch of questions........
Ah, what the hell..... We went to a hunting ground to look for a new place to fish, locals told us of a river bend in the area but did not specify exactly where. It was in the back roads of Georgia, we had driven my Bronco down a couple of slippery slopes with no way of turning back.
We came across some 3-4" pine trees blocking the trail and had to run them over to continue. We drove this lovely washed out trail for over an hour with no luck of finding anything then we drove through these ruts about 400 to 500 feet long. When we got to the other side a Sheriff was there and shined his light on us. We exited the vehicle a couple hundred feet from his car and walked toward him. His car was blocking the only exit to the woods and asked us what we were doing, how we got there, told us we had to turn around since there were three shallow graves just on the side of the trail. We asked him if we could drive past, he said we had to turn around and go back the way we came, after telling him that was impossible, he said if we could drive on the side of the bank to get around his car we would be OK..... As soon as the Sheriff told us we had to turn around and go back we just about shit our pants, the only way we made it as far as we did is because we traveled down hill to that location, and after telling him that he eventually let us go.
After going back and talking with the locals, we found that fishing hole on another property further down the road. We drove in and drove out with no troubles, the locals had a good laugh at us and they told us that no one had driven on the trails we took in years, they said those trails are impassible. Thanks douche.......
