I wonder how many red rings of death this update will cause.

Hopefully I can put an .avi on a USB thumb drive and watch the thing, instead of having it not recognized.

I even tried that stupid Stream From PC, and only a few videos would play... then freeze.

I've had sucsess in encoding from avi to mp4 using "Easy Video to iPod/MP4/PSP/3GP Converter for Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP" then streaming it from my PC.

Now I won't have to, I guess.

Correction, post update, it wont recognize ANY movie file on my PC. I hope they didn't remove it for pc running xp, and just let you stream from xp media center, vista premium and vista ultimate.

Or I could just could be an idiot. (probably)

I've heard this stupid xvid promise for over a year now, it's supposed to be in every fucking update but never is. Screw it, I'm just playing games and DVD's on it. Screw the rest of the crap. I have a regular computer hooked up to my Wide screen now so I don't need the 360 to be a media extender.

I have only tried one file so I might be wrong, but it worked really well. I wasn't streaming though. I used a thumb drive. So far I like it.

yeah, I was a dummy. I was trying to get it to work through media center. No dice.

I just dl'd the last to eps of Dexter, put them on my thumbdrive, and plugged that into my 360, that worked great

Checked out a few files, played off of the USB thumb drive and all of them played flawlessly. I'm extremely happy with the new upgrade.

If you've ever had a problem with Tversity I implore you to try Orb. I had nothing but problems with Tversity. Orb runs like a champ.

I've had good and bad experiences with it. it's not a robust program at all, but since transcoding is no longer necessary I'll stick with it, but will remember "orb"

You have to be a complete douche if losing your post counts mean that much to you.

This is Wackbag:action-sm

But yeah I don't think many people need to move their account though. I sure don't see a reason to.

Yeah I'm quite happy with the update even though my Xbox is getting sent back for repair. As soon as I get it back I'll either be getting Psychonauts or Indigo Prophecy.

I have had a bit to play around with everything. If you are using a usb drive, the Divx support is really awesome. I have two dvd players and it is far superior to both of them.

It handles the aspect ratio better than any device I have used up to now. The video quality is also very impressive. I am very impressed.

I played around with the new update for "shits and Giggles". I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this problem. I have widescreen TV using 1080I on component for the 360. The zoom, widescreen, auto, letterbox modes look exactly the same with the edges being off the screen. I can tell because the TV watermark logos are cut off. setting it to native mode and its a small box with block borders around the entire thing. I tried seven different avi divix files with the same result. Something is still off about it. Luckily, I have the PC connected to the TV and don't need the Xbox for playing media.

I no shit about XBOX 360... but unless your TV is 1080p or a CRT tube HD set, it's a native 720p television. Try changing your res to 720p and see what happens. You might like it better than 1080i anyway

My TV is 1080i and the Xbox outputs 1080i. I did try it on 720P and the result is the same. WMV files autosize without any problems. It's strange that windows Media Player does divx just fine, but not their console. I suspect that they really don't want to support other formats.

There are several older HDTVs out there that only support 1080i with no 720p support so I have to call schnanigans on your post.

yep, there are a shitload of tv's out there where there is no option for 720p, I wish mine had 1080P

FWIW... some LCDs actually have 1366x768 native resolution. Don'tknow if that is the issue or not.
