2007 EGG NOG CHALLENGE ANNUAL EGG NOG CHALLENGE:

The annual Opie and Anthony EGG NOG CHALLENGE will take place on Thursday, December 20th during the XM portion of the show. Contestants will drink a double-shot of egg nog every minute until they tap out or blow chunks... whoever holds down the most egg nog... WINS.

Well, to play "Devil's (Lawyer's) Advocate", the combination of the lady that died in the "Hold Your Wee For a Wii" contest and E-Rock almost choking to death on cinnamon, one can see why the *uninformed might want to "play it safe" with eating challenges while a muti-million dollar merger is taking place ...I have faith the boys are doing what's best for the show in the long run!


* Both incidents could've been made relatively safe by having an EMT there, and mixing Gatorade to replace the electrolytes that were lost/diluted by the water in the Wii contest, although the cinnamon thing may have been inherently dangerous.

Your forgetting that the FM Show has more listeners than the XM Side even though most XM'ers are the diehard fans they still dont outnumber the FM fans.

If this is true, I'm really getting fed up with them catering to the FM audience. If XM says no, that's one thing to be mad at, but when Krock says no and they act like they don't have another way to do the show it frustrates me to no end. I completely agree. I wasn't being sarcastic when I asked if any shows at the doggie were being given the same treatment, if they are then that is bullshit too.

As far as an outlet to express our dissatisfaction with XM there are a couple that I can see but, none of them would be listened too.

1- We couple start an email/letter campain to the head muckety mucks at XM, telling them how we feel about all of this (in an honest, civilized manner). Problem there is XM is only concerned with bottom line and not customer satisfaction.

2- We could call our public representatives in Washington and express our views about the merger. When have they ever listened to a couple hundred thousand constituants.

3- We could bitch and moan on message boards till our 'lil fingers are sore and bleeding. All we would be doing there is preaching to the choir and taking the risk of pissing off the very show we are trying to support.

4- We could cancel our subs to XM, giving the boys no audience, causing XM to get rid of the show all together. We don't want that.

5- All out Pest attack on XM! While I'm always up for giving somone a good smashing, I don't think that would be a good idea in this case. An email box full of pictures of deformed cocks would just piss people off and make them more resolute to control the show in order to get the merger through.

If anyone has any ideas please post them.

I have Sirius in my truck and am checking out the free 6 month trial and as an old school Hoo Hoo fan I was morbidly curious to see what he's up to and pop in from time to time. I still listen to every morsel of the O&A show daily as well so you know this is not coming from Zombie Land. :action-sm

Having said that, it saddens me to see the noose being pulled tighter on a daily basis on O&A and Jimmy.
Howard has much more freedom over there it seems then O&A do.

My opinion is that the show does not see the end of it's run with CBS. There's only so much Opie and Jimmy can take. That BS about glow in the dark cloned cats from Korea not getting talked about was a tell tale sign. It sounds as if Jimmy is in there arguing with Tom about content which would have never happened even just a few months ago.

After this merger shit shakes out, and the boys feel relatively secure in their spot on XM, Opie is going to blow this spot up. He knows it'll get press and help their exposure to do XM again. I think he realizes that the times have indeed changed and it's not a creatively satisfying gig on the FM side anymore.

Also, when the merger goes through, they'll be technically still competing directly against Howard, not like in the old days when they did afternoons, but the exact same time slot. Hopefully that will put a little fire back into their bellies.

And Howie gets away with more shit now because he is after all, still Howie (even if in just name only). He was the pioneer and has done so much shit in the past that the media knows they can't really touch him because he's on "uncensored" radio. Special interest groups don't go after him because they know his company has his back.

Part of the CBS deal was that they regained full rights to all the old WNEW bits, so that's a done deal. Meanwhile, Howie had to pay xxxmilions to regain the rights to his (which of course got taken out of his $500 million contract so it doesn't hurt).

NO HSS this year stinks. Some of my best home video is from the 2 I attended and they are always a blast, but this was just stupidity by K-Rock not giving up one afternoon drive.

The Egg Nog challenge is equally infuriating. I understand the lawyers side of it and the points Pat bring up are valid, yet this is a tradition on the show and one that provides hours of laughter, not just from the challenge itself but the guests who usually pop in that day and the dialogue that goes on.

Christmas just ain't Christmas without the challenge you love.

I understand that the show would have liked to do their annual Homeless Shopping Spree on the CBS side for more exposure but why can't it be done on XM like it has in the past? Next, why is there no Egg Nog Drinking Challenge? Please tell us. Was it a show decision or was it a corporate decision brought on by lawyers. Finally, why are certain sex acts, that have been performed on air in the past, banned by corporate.
There is much speculation on the message boards. Most are saying that XM management is scared to upset regulators involved in the merger. Others, including myself, are blaming lawyers. Please set the record straight.
All of these issues have come up since the Homeless Charlie incident. XM's actions during that time were unforgivable. Is XM becoming the land of lawyers or is it the ground breaking, uncensored service we were promised when we subscribed. I look forward to you response.

I sincerely don't want to come off as a know-it-all douche when it comes to the show and Wackbag, but I think you need to do a little more lingering. Part of the CBS deal was that they regained full rights to all the old WNEW bits, so that's a done deal. Meanwhile, Howie had to pay xxxmilions to regain the rights to his (which of course got taken out of his $500 million contract so it doesn't hurt).

exactly and at times even the good doesnt happen(for all reasons). this is getting harder and harder to put up with and i find myself listening less. one has to think all of these problems started with going to fm and will continue until that is done. i was on the fence for the boys only about keeping fm but now i could care less. get rid of the fm side, your linger longer fans will be much happier

There is more to the show than just the HSS and Eggnog Challenge. Sorry, but as disappointed as I am with their decision to not to either, it's still their decision. I don't see where it's disrespecting the fans. If they can't do the show they want to do, they'd rather not do it at all because they know it won't be as good. Where is that disrespecting us? Anyone think that they're now using the FM side to expose what regular radio won't let them do? This would make it more enticing to anyone who might be on the fence to jump over to XM once their contract is up (when is it up again...3, 4 months?). They've done the HSS on XM only in the past (and the egg nog challenge as well), not having a local station didn't stop them back then.

You could almost sense that they're just waiting for the FM side to end. They're not building towards anything there. It's not that they've stopped trying, it seems that they've stalled in a sense. The XM side, while not filler, is too short to allow any real momentum for that side of the show. More often than not I get tempted to tune out of the XM side these days.

I think they see the writing and are waiting for things to pretty much blow up on the FM side so they can go back to doing XM only radio.

When XM has 100 million subs they can say "SCREW FM!" but until then they have to deal with the situation as it is, Opie won't blow up the FM gig until it becomes enevitable that it isn't going to work out, ala' WYSP ...I will continue to listen to my favorite radio po'gram ... you don't have to. :)

But if they don't do the good stuff on XM either, what is there to encourage the FM listeners to get XM? Also, they only did the HSS once since they came back, and that was last year, when they were on FM - they said they waited until then because the XM audience is spread across the country and not many of them can make it to the NYC area.

Going to FM ruined the show, PERIOD.

It seemed like the XM show was really hitting a stride around the same time the whole FM thing went down.

The only good thing to come out of FM was better guests, which isn't really one of the reasons I was a subscriber in the first place.

After the past 2 ENC's, I was really looking forward to it. Not just for me, for all of us who have been paying XM for the past 3 years. If for some reason the decision not to do this has anything to do with FM, I would probably hope that the FM side keeps failing, and ratings go nowhere, and CBS dumps them.

Then again, maybe the baby bird was the peak and it couldn't really go anywhere from there. How can you top last year, or better yet, how much more can you do with puke?

i love how people tell others they dont have to listen when their is a disagreement. simply put the xm only show was better than the combined. from my point of view, this is not whining it is a fact and for the most part i listen to only the xm side. now i dont know about you pat but i never thought i would get a personal audience with the show but what i do know is that doing a great show builds an audience. if they are limited from doing that on fm, what are you going to build? i dont buy it when you tell me they need fm to be successful, xm is a paying subscription and keeps growing by the day with or without the fm show. maybe it has helped but not nearly to the point where the show needs fm. now that we have that said, i am pissed i dont get to hear you on the show as much anymore. not kissing your ass it is one part of the show i laugh at.
