Anyone here have DirectTv? I'm getting it on Saturday. I just wanted some of your opinions on it. I'm a poor white man with a buttload of kids and a nagging wife, and my cable has been off for, get this, a year!!! My cable bill is really high and I probably could have paid it off by now, if I actually paid anything on it. I'm going nuts without my best friend (TV)! I got a pretty good deal I think, 2 receivers AND installation for $14.95, and then $39.99 a month, with local channels. My credit is shot, (they do a credit check), so I just have to pay out the $14.95 and a one time $50.00 prepay to get activated. So $64.95 compared to my $600 and change cable bill....I'm a happy camper!!
Anyway....lol....I heard the rain hitting the dish interfere's with the reception. Anyone have an opinion on this?
P.S. If anyone wants to donate to the "100Grand and his Buttload of Leaches Foundation"....PM me! :D ;)

My cable company (Comcast) is a bunch of fucking retards...I had it shut off at like 200.00 and made a deal with them and they turned it back on and I paid them nothing...then they threatened to shut it off when it hit 400 or so....I paid like 50 bucks and they finally shut it off when it got over 600...no more deals!! lol
I feel cable is a "luxury" and I'd rather feed my kids and heat the house and pay rent, then to not do that and pay the cable....phone always gets paid tho..(internet...priorities...lol)!

Well, I don't want to kill your good feelings, but Dish Network will give you 4 free receivers for the same price. But, if you only need two, and if your a Yankees fan keep the Direct. NEVER GO BACK TO CABLE! Your reception will be fine as long as there are no trees around your house.

i call them back tell them what happened, dude checks my account and says i turned my cable off in january!!! here he has my old adress (i moved in jan), i try to explain that its my old address...he doesnt understand!!! he gets a supervisor, he says no problem the woman never hit the switch to turn my cable back on and he'll do it right now....1 hour later i call back bitchin and complaining so i finally get it turned back on WITHOUT the fee for all the trouble i went thru! woopee:o

I have had DirecTV since 1996 and have never looked back. The reason I prefer DirecTV to Dish Network is that DirecTV is the only place to get the NFL Sunday Ticket package where you can watch every damn game on sunday afternoons. I recommend DirecTV to anyone. I have been very pleased with it. The only time I have ever had the service go down was under severe weather conditions. It it so totally worth the money.

I would take his advice and go for it. I only brought up Dish network because it gives 4 receivers free. I don't think it is better than Direct, unless all your kids have TV's in their room. Then, it could be a deal. It's true Direct have the Sunday ticket and Dish does not, plus Dish does not have the YES network. So, I think you are going right way with Direct. Like SBlue said, go and never look back. I have cable... TRUST ME!

it sucks here in philly, because i would love to get directv but if you get a dish, you cant get comcasysportsnet! since comcast won't give dirctv the rights to air it. which means i would also have to get basic cable ALONG with dirctv so i can see phillies, flyers and sixers homegames.
digital cable isn't bad either.

I've got DirecTV and it kicks ass. I get "Total Choice" plus local stations (everything but the premiums) for only $42 a month. To get the similar setup on cable I gotta get digital cable and that costs about $60 a month. Cable's a crock of shit these days.

DirecTV is the best I have been with them for over 5 years now. Really REALLY bad weather affects it. Not as bad as Cable used to be. I mean a really bad snowstorm with knock it offline for a little while. The customer service is great. If you ever do need them to fix a problem always ask to talk to TECH SUPPORT. The regular people don't know what they are talking about.
THE TECH people are awesome.
Also not every channel will be affected by the weather. Usually for me ESPN gets affected but most stations do not.
You will love it.

Cool thanks guys...I'm still set up for installation on Saturday...I actually tried Dish Network 1st but, like I said earlier, my credit is shot...they wanted like 300.00 from me for everything cuz of my credit...Direct only wants a $50 prepay before activation.
Next question...can you splice to the receiver? Like can I splice into my living room receiver and run cable to my bedroom and watch there? I heard that you can but you're limited to watching whats on the receiver downstairs.....does that mean you have to go downstairs and change the channels? The guy I heard that from is a fuck up and I don't really trust him.;)

If you spice the receiver you will have the same channel on both TV's. If you want different channels on every TV then you need a separate receiver for every TV.
If you want to have the receiver in the basement but want to watch it in a different room and control the BASEMENT receiver there is a remote extender. SO the receiver can be downstairs and you can be upstairs watching TV. ( I hope I explained it ok)....
I think the extender is around 50 bucks the receiver gets a little attachment and they on top of the TV you want to watch there is a transmitter.
If you want multiple TVs with different receivers make sure you got what is called DUAL LMB. That allows different receivers with different channels.

Directv is awesome... Not only does it have the best sports packages it also has my new reason for living, Ultimate TV. Pause, Rewind, and record live tv and you don't even loose any picture quality... And yeah, like Sblueman said that Football package is Great....

::::::::UPDATE::::::::::
Ok...DirectTV kicks ass! I have my best friend back!!!
I gave the installer one of Robification's WOW stickers...and he set me up to get FREE PayPerView movies! All you have to do is get friendly with the guy, give him a beer and a sticker and he'll tell the DirectTv people that he hooked up a phone line to your receiver when he actually doesn't....you order the movies, watch them and pay nothng, since the phone line is NOT connected you will NOT receive a bill for them. DO NOT hook up a phone line to it in the future...he said as soon as they (DirectTV) have access to the comp in the receiver they can download EVERY movie you ever watched!
Anyway, I have my TV back, it's crystal clear and I got a buttload of channels...so I am a happy camper!
He also said that you can run a cable from one receiver to another tv upstairs and you CAN get an infrared remote...RadioShack $50!:D

Being in Philly, the reason I am stuck with cable is what wackadoo mentioned. Comcast has all of the sports locked up on their channel. So, I live with my $70/month cable bill for having both tiers of "basic" cable and HBO on 4 tv's.

Ummm yes you will be charged... wait for your bill to show up.. I order PAY-per-veiw all the time and I have never had my phone line hooked up to my receiver. Wait till you get your first bill. I was on the phone with DIRECTV tech support and they fixed my reciever without my phone line hooked up. You will get charged as long as they know the SERIAL NUMBER of your receiver they will get you.
