I've tried a couple of different ones (I'm using Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum now) and it seems to be hit or miss whether the resulting AVI file is corrupted or not. Usually the video will break up for a couple of seconds at some point, and after that the audio is out of sync for the rest of the movie.

WinAVI Video Converter has been kicking ass for me lately.

Ditto & it works well the other way. It's the only way i can burn movies with nero, without the audio and video going out of sync.
