I'm on the other side of this. Aside from not really liking who they cast as Speed, I think it looks like it's going be a good flick.

why does Speed drive a Mach 5 and a Mach 6? way to spoil the movie via trailer WB.

Isnt one of those Wachowskis a woman now?
The visuals and stuff looked good which usually mean the movie is going to suck

They hired two different actors to be Rex Racer/Racer X...gonna suck unless Rex is 17 something when he leaves and is 30 something as Racer X...

Looks like that's what they're going for . . . expect they forgot that two actors playing the same person should look at least a little bit like each other.

this is supposed to be a more kid-oriented movie, guys. this isn't another Matrix or V for Vendetta. the Watchowskis themselves stated that they wanted to make a movie their kids could watch (that is, if one of them actually still can produce children, what with the allllleged sex change and all) and it's based on an anime and animes are known for their crazy-ass visual style.

What i dont like is the uniqueness of the Mach 5 seems to be left out what with the Buzz saw fighting something off of some other car during one of the racing scenes unless of course the other car is Racer X's then i'll never mind its fucking Speed Racer.

I guess you had to be a fan of the cartoon to think this movie looks good. I never cared for the cartoon and the movie looks even worse. But for the people who were a fan I hope you enjoy it.

I must be a douche. I'm really looking forward to this. I loved the cartoon growing up and from the trailers I've seen I already love colors, the style and the look. It's almost like they've accomplished the cheesy 80s anime in live action / CGI.

It looks like it's going to be a good 90 min escape.

I liked the cartoon a lot as a kid but I don’t have any real interest in watching the movie now. However, having said that my buddy said that this is all his kid and his friends (2nd grade) have been talking about so I have a feeling it is going to do extremely well at the box office.

I'm kind of excited.

I'm going in with low expectations and thinking it will probably surprise me. I talked to a couple friends who saw it already and they said it's a lot of fun.

It's one of those movies that I think is really worth seeing it on the biggest screen you can find with speakers that are so loud most people would consider them obnoxious. It looks like a complete summer popcorn flick. The kind I'll see opening weekend, but would probably never watch on TV because it's made for experiencing in a movie theater.

I will be going to see this :icon_eek:

My hubby has been going around the house singing the dingy song - and have already been advised that there will be a Hot Wheels Mach 5 in our future. OMG - he is regressing. Even remenissing about drawing this car when he was a lil feller:haha7:

I haven't seen a race car slam into a wall this hard since Dale Earnhardt. Speed Racer is projected to open @ #3 in the box office behind the shitty Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz pile of shit.

For those of you who saw it. If I have the option of a) seeing it cheap on a mediocre screen, or b) seeing it full price on Imax, and I don't really want to see it, I'm just bored- what do I do?

GLENN_THE_TOOL

i decided to see it last night. the theater was pretty vacant, which says a lot for a Friday night showing of a big summer movie. it does go on longer than it should at a running time of over two hours. it does have a very neon cartoony look and style, even down to the fight scenes (it's a Watchowski Bros. movie, so of course there's gonna be some kung-fu). the best parts are the racing scenes (which are look like giant pinball games, flashing lights and all) and Christina Ricci's skimpy outfits.

i can't even imagine the epileptic fit you'd have watching it on IMAX.

Friday numbers are up and it came in third behind Iron Man and, get this, What Happens in Vegas.

Iron Man: $15,300,000
What Happens in Vegas: $6,700,000

Bomb.

Just got back from seeing it and it was pretty repetitive and bad. It was overlong, the talky scenes were terrible and even the effects wore out their welcome. Some additional thoughts.

It seemed as though the decision to make it a kid's movie almost seems like an afterthought. Most of the Chimchim and Spritle scenes, particularly the super-kids ones, just don't seem to fit. (Yes I know they were part of the original.)

Has Emile Hirsch always sounded like Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker? I don't remember thinking that in Into The Wild but in this movie, especially during his voice overs, I definitely thought so.

I want to slap Christina Ricci around with my cock. I've always thought she was attractive, though I didn't think she fit in Hustle and Flow. But this time I really just wanted to beat her with my cock. Note that I didn't say "fuck her," though that would be nice, but slap her face with my engorged penis.

I honestly thought Susan Sarandon in some scenes looked...ok. And I haven't thought that since Rocky Horror. But still would prefer to cock slap Ricci.

We get it. You can make the background change as the foreground stays the same. And you can make the foreground change as the background stays the same. We get it. We got it. Was that the only trick in your arsenal? Apparently.

Movie sucked, but I saw it for a 5er.

1. Iron Man- $50,500,000
2. Speed Racer- $20,210,000
3. What Happens in Vegas- $20,000,000

So it did beat WHIV, but just barely

Those are just rough estimates. I'm sure they're in full spin/damage control. WHIV might still beat it when final numbers come in.

Let me tell you, if I had children.......I'd be violating my probation.

But seriously folks!

If I had children, the last thing I'd do would be dragging them to a fucking 2+ hour movie.

If I had children, the last thing I'd do would be dragging them to a fucking 2+ hour movie. Wait until afterwards when you have to explain to them how the stock market works.

My favorite part of the movie was

When they were explaining what happened to Racer X at the end and they show him moving across the foreground with a very overly pouty face. I imagined more faces of him panning across like really happy, really pensive, really goofy.

And imagining slapping Ricci with my cock.

And yes, I had a little crush on her way back in TAF. I've always had a thing for goth girls and conservative outfits. I was a little pervert way back before I knew what being a pervert was.

So what happens to the Mach 5 that it warrants the Mach 6? I think they just wanted to make a special showing during the final race but I could have sworn I saw a 6 on the side of his first car in the first race where he's racing the ghost of his brother.

I thought it looked bad just from the trailers. No way would I spend money on it.
Looks like a very quickly to video flick now.

While the "Speed Racer" budget hasn't been publicized, I'd guesstimate it's somewhere north of $100 million -- and it'll be lucky to reach that mark in ticket sales before it bows from theaters.

I saw another article that I can't find right now but it cost about 125 mil to make and
the producers admit it won't hit that mark.
