Im upgrading my PC soon. I am thinking of building a new one. But I also need a laptop, I really need performance. I've head good things about Alienware and just wanted some thoughts. I know they cost more and thats fine as long as the machine is fast.

I also really like the HP Blackbird 002.

all I know about alienware is that those are the most expensive computers I've ever seen. I don't think I'll ever be able to afford one.

I had an Alienware. Worked fine for me, but waaaaaaaaay too expensive for a regular ol' PC. Like Hoagie said, get a MacBook.

No macs. I use software that wont run on fruit. Plus there's the whole gay stereotype. Its not for me. I also enjoy a good PC game from time to time.

I have three friends who have had Alienwares. Every single one of them has died for some reason. For one it was the heatsink, one was the hard drive, and another was something else. I'd avoid them if I were you.

I have heard good things about Falcon Northwest computers. Might look there too. Never owned one, I build my own, but for a pre-built system, haven't heard a bad word.

Just a thought.

Dell owns Alienware So I might stay away. Unless you like talking to rag heads if you have any problems

Alienware used to set new benchmarks for gaming, that it, until Dell bought them and kind of crapped them out a bit. Since Dell bought them, I have not heard anything good about them, not even in PC World or any other magazine that used to rave about them.

Northwest Falcon is supposed to be a great pc, but for 4 or 5000 bucks it should suck your dick while you game.

Yeah - Dell bought Alienware and it seems like they are scavenging models away from them so they don't compete with Dell's XPS line. Alienware used to have a larger selection.

As long as you get a laptop with a dedicated graphics - ie Nvidia GeForce 8600, you'll be fine. (But not NVidia Quadro - game support is not there)

Scan Newegg - there are laptops well under $1500 (some even under $1000) that would be more than sufficient.

Glad you didn't yadda yadda through that one. At first I thought you said the computers killed your friends.

And yeah, don't get an Alienware. You can get better power for less money if you just build your own.

Since Alienware got bought out by Dell I'd be scared to even try them. But their laptops are still the most powerful on the market from what I can tell.

And I bought a Macbook Pro, it's GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT

I've been looking at the blackbird as well. For fun, the other day I clicked customize and ended up with a price over 8 grand.

I'll have to checkout these other laptops you people posted later.

I'll mostly be using both the desktop and laptop for HD Editing. My current computer is a few years old and can do it, but I need to do it faster.

Just build your own PC for less than half the price. It's really easy.

The HP Blackbird is a ripoff!

I built one on HP's site and it came to $3510

I built one on newegg with the same configuration and it was $2230 - 80 in rebates, and that was with a $300 case.

We'll I'm looking for both a laptop and a desktop.

I'm looking at newegg for my desktop, about 1500-2000 dollars. I'm looking at the intel quad core, the $530 one. I've looked at all kinds of benchmarks, this one renders video faster then the less priced quads. Also, my software fully uses 4 cores. There are no 2 core chips that come close. I'm not crazy about their computer cases, is there any business that sell hot looking custom cases?

The laptop is mostly so I can hookup to an HD Video Camera. I have software that monitors video cameras, and it also records straight to the hard drive, this way my footage is ready to edit instantly. It will be nice doing on location editing.

FYI; I just checked Frys.com. Fuck newegg!! The case and motherboard were cheaper.

I also love the Fry's stores.

Anyone ever order a Cyber Power PC?

What do you think of this computer?

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Ultra_CrossFire_Pro/#configurator_top

I changed a few options, and still seams cheaper then building one. Plus I won't have to put it together.

This one has TWO ATI Radeon HD 3870 PCI-E x16 512MB Video Cards.

And the new AMD Phenom™ X4 9600 Quad-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology.

About 1400 for it, was less but I picked a bigger case.

Alienware is aweful.

I have one sitting under the couch and will probably never be run again. Over heating is their major issue. Although Dell bought them they have their own CSR and tech support. Be prepared to speak spanish. The sales guys speak perfect english, the CSR and tech support are Cuban with thick accents.

Ive replaced 5 heat sinks, 1 mother board. All covered under warrenty. So of the two years of warrenty coverage, cause thats all i could afford after paying an arm and a leg for the system, i had the system in my posession and operating at full steam for apx 7 months.

Buy Alienware at your own risk.

After a little over a year of heavy gaming and graphics, my HP pavilion 8320 recently died (graphics card/motherboard: +600$ to repair).

So I did a lot of research before I decided on my new laptop, the ASUS G1 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220256)

Mine was $1499 on new egg, (with the smaller HD). Paid extra for the overnight shipping, and had it by noon the next day.

This puppy screams!
Plays Bioshock maxed out and full rez without a hitch. Crysis rocks as well, with a mix of high and ultrahigh settings.

The 8600m GT with 256MB GDDR3 VRAM and turbo cached to over 1000MB can handle anything I throw at it.

I almost went for a Cyberpower laptop too, but after reading all the negative feedback on the web, I decided against it. Asus support is better than most, and it came with a 2 year warranty as well.

You can check this dude's YouTube videos of his G1 in action HERE (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=monke360).

I just built a system from Newegg. I went with a 2.4ghz quad core and clocked it up to 3.0ghz. I also went with an 8800gtx clocked beyond Ultra speeds and a Raptor HD. The whole thing came out about 1800 and I was able to play Crysis in ultra high modded settings as well as play any Unreal engine or Source game at 1900x1200 4xaa with no slowdown. I'm very happy with it.

if you have the money I like falcon better myself.
I have been to a few PC expos and it's a toss up between VooDoo and Falcon but as far as just flat out looking bad ass Falcon got them all beat plus they make a very good PC hardware wise.
