Microsoft Small Business Server 2003

What would a person have to do in order to have the required competence to run that server with about 15 people on the network. Yes I'm a noob, but I'm wondering what certifications/classes I'd need.

1) Ditch SBS. Go with W2k3 Standard.
2) Technically, you don't *need* any certs/classes, but MS Course 2273 and 2275 combined with Exam 70-290 would be a good start.

Thanks. It's a family business, so I don't "need" anything, you're right, but I want to be prepared.

Its really not that hard to setup out of the box. Basic funtions like setting up users/passwords and security are done thru Wizards.

As far as exchange, there's plenty of online free tutorials to get you familiar.

why would he need to spend 1K for a 2k3 box, spend extra on 10 cals to equal 15 users, spend 5 grand on exchange and and onther 2k3 box with 10 extra cals as a domain controller? thats an investment of over 20 grand just for 15 users. SBS is more economical.

why would you need extra CAL's? Set the licencing Mode to Per-user, and install valid copies of win-XP. You can have your DC be your Exchange server as well.

However, it all depends on what your goals/needs are with the server.

I see you need CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge and skills. Are those exams easy or what?

How computer literate are you? If you have a knack for this type of stuff you dont need any certifications...the internet is full of resources...certifications are just to prove to 'the man' when youre looking for a tech job IMO

I'm pretty computer literate. I don't know all that I should, but I can easily find things I need to know when I need to know them for the most part. I just want to take a couple classes so the transition is as smooth as possible when it happens.
