It is my personal opinion that the primary purpose of the chip is to deliver delicious dip flavors to my mouth. Especially chips of the potato variety. (ruffles, wavy lays).
I just finished making my favorite onion dip. Nothing special. One container of sour cream+one packet of onion soup (Lipton is the bessssst). Stir completely and chill for 30-60 minutes. Yummy.

Exactly that way.
I don't like them premade like Axelrod etc.
Oh I do enjoy to change up a chip with a thin pretzel once and a while.

looks good on you though.
When it comes to Doritos, I love my chili dip.
Take one can of Nally's regular chili.
Cook as normal.
Add one package of Philly cream cheese and a cup of graded chedder.
I also like to add 1/2 tablespoon of vinegar, some garlic powder and a teaspoon of chili power.
Add chopped onions if you like.
Stir well.
Let chill for one hour.

I like making dips a lot but I HATE Lays and Ruffles- too damn salty. I'm like MJ in that I like mixing it up with either pretzels or other crackers and throwing fresh scallions into the onion dip.
I also like taking a small can of Herdez Salsa Casera or Salsa Ranchera and mixing it with an 8 ounce peckidge of fat free cream cheese using an electric beater so it gets really whippy. Serve with tortilla chips and you've got lo cal spicy goodness!

Lipton onion soup mix and sour cream. I dont even chill it for an hour. If the sour cream is cold, I go right at it.
I also like taking a can of spicy chili and mixing it with some velvetta, and cooking it until it gets thick and gooey and then dipping my nachos in it.

I either make the cold, 7 Ingredient variety of dip (Bottom to top Refried Beans - Guacamole - Sour Cream with taco seasoning mixed in - Green Onions - Tomatoes {seeded & cubed} - Shredded Cheddar & Jack Cheese - Olives or Jalapeno Rings)
Or I just make hot refried beans with melted cheddar & jack on top sometimes with jalapeno rings on top.
I use the scoop shaped tostitos as a delivery system for either of these and voila!

Depends. I've been on a veggies with hummus kick lately. I also love the hot, bubbling, crab dip at The Clover Leaf in West Caldwell.
I'll eat just about any dip. Onion, 7 layer, veggie, spinach, artichoke, etc.

I make a mean spinach dip too
Not a big fan of hummus although I'm not sure what they do differently, but the hummus at F.H. Riley's is to die for. I could go in and just have that and the mozzarella tower and be happy

This made me el oh el... for a few minutes before I could respond.
This thread made me happy. I am a huge fan of the dip and using a chip as the receptacle to bring said dip to the mouth.
Onion dip for me is simple, a packet of the Wise brand per 8 oz. sour cream. Stir, chill for an hour or more, enjoy. Problem is I have to get the packets shipped down to me cause I've never seen them in DC or VA, only in NJ.
As for your Tostitos, might I offer this variation to what some people said. Cream cheese softened in a square casserole dish, top with Hormel Chili (with beans), coat with the four-cheese mexican blend shredded cheese. Heat it until it melts the cheese on top, and enjoy. That's a Sunday football staple for me, and it's easy as hell.
I went to Woodbridge Mall yesterday to make some returns, and found myself in Le Gourmet Chef, aka my new favorite store ever. There were at least 12 different types of dips around the store, with pretzels or bread pieces to try. Some fantastic stuff, including a ginger wasabi dip and a chile con queso that had a delayed surprise of being nice and spicy.
I'm not a fan of buying it in jars so much but they made great stuff.

I LOOOOOVE dip, I am especially fond of the ranch dip that my students get delivered (I have NO idea how its made though!!) .. Other than that, ANY kind of dip is likely to be a victim of me eating it!
I'll add spreads to the list as well...crackers need some love too.
I made a cheeseball the other day, based on several recipes I found on the net. I took what I liked best and made my own recipe that turned out very tasty.
Here it is.
Cheese Ball Al La Biv
11 ounces of cream cheese.
2.5 ounces of crumbled blue cheese.
4 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese.
1 tablespoon of crashed garlic.
2.5 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
A liberal sprinkle onion powder (could be a teaspoon)
Melt Cream cheese till it's creamy and stir-able. add all of the ingredients and stir well. Give the mixture a little extra blast in the microwave to soften up the other cheeses a little. Stir well once again.
You have two options at this point.
Option #1 Chill the mixture in the fridge for two hours. Pull out the mixture and lay out some plastic wrap. Form the mixture into 1 or 2 balls and roll in nuts or parsley is desired (I do not) place the balls in the center of the plastic wrap. (each should have their own wrapper). Wrap the balls and put back in the fridge for 22 more hours. Serve with your favorite cracker.
Option #2 Or you could do what I did. Stand a smaller Ziplock freezer bag in a container and pour the mixture in. Seal the bag most of the way, get most of the air out, then seal it up the rest of the way. Leave the bag in the container (for some semblance of shape) and put the container in the fridge. Chill for 24 hours. Serve with your favorite cracker. Granted, this makes more of a "cheese blob", but it tastes the same. :)
Hope you all enjoy.

In a crock pot, combine the following:
1 pound browned sausage (hot, if you like)
1/2 gallon salsa
2 cans of refried beans
1 block of Velveeta cheese
Let it melt, enjoy with chips. It rules.

Buffalo Chicken dip:
8oz cream cheese (softened)
8oz bleu cheese dressing
8oz package of shredded chedder cheese
1 cup hot sauce (more or less depending on how hot you like it and type of sauce)
2 large cooked chicken breast - diced
( can substitute large can of precooked chicken )
Preheat oven to 350.
Combine ingredients in a casserole dish and cook for
30 - 40 minutes until top is a golden brown.
Great served with dipping chips.
Tastes like eating chicken wings on a chip.
You want dip? I got yer dip. The only good thing my first wife left me was her shrimp dip recipe:
1 8 oz. package of 1/3 less fat cream cheese
1 small onion, minced
1 tablespoon mayo
2 tablespoons +/- chili sauce
3 shakes of lawry's seasoned salt
1 can of tiny shrimp, rinsed and drained (the tuna can sized cans)
mix cream cheese, onion, mayo, chili sauce & salt together in a bowl until smooth. Fold in shrimp. Chill in the fridge for an hour before serving.
This stuff rocks with either Cap Cod Potato Chips or the cracker of your choice. I like Keebler Buttercrisps.
Trust me, this is food of the fuckin' gods, even if my ex is a no good cunt of a dyke.

I make a hot dip...
Two jars of artichoke hearts- drained (It mighta choked Artie, but it won't choke Stymie.)
A cup of mayo
A cup of grated Parm cheese
Small can diced green chilis
Mix the whole mess up in a bowl, bake it in the oven for about an hour... till there's a lovely golden brown crust on the top, and the oils are a'bubblin' up.
Eat it warm with Frito's Scoops. Nom nom nom nom nom.
Deee-lish!
But you may as well just pull your heart out of your chest, lay it on the table, and beat it with a hammer.
I eat it once a year... at Christmas.

As for your dip, it's very similar to the one my friends grandma made for every Super Bowl party.
A layer of cream cheese topped with salsa, ground beef and shredded cheese.
I could eat this stuff until my heart exploded.
