Yeah, I admit it. I still read the Sunday funnies. And yes, they're anything but. Still, it's good crapper material and takes me back to my childhood days of flipping through the comics section and Toys 'R Us catalog on Sunday mornings.
Anyway, I was reading through the January 6 comic section of The Boston Sunday Globe and came across this little beaut. There's no dialogue or corny jokes and I think the visual will speak for itself.

I tried to instant feedback the show while Patrice was talking about racism today, but as usual, Opie treated my contribution like a fat chick.
Does this strip actually mean anything? What is the implied joke here? I'm assuming the strip creator (Tony Carillo) isn't black and wouldn't be able to get away with some of the jokes that the Boondocks creator does.
*Mods - If this thread needs to be moved, I understand and apologize.

I don't really get it.
Maybe he bet his friends he could publish a cartoon where he hanged a black guy.

When in doubt, go directly to the source ... I just emailed Carrillo & asked him to explain it the significance of a black guy being hung out to dry with the laundry. Told him that if he didn't give me an answer, I was going to send the comic to Rev. Al and have him picket United Media's offices in Manhattan.
Just joking about the Rev. Al part.
or am I ;)

got this from Carillo today ... I'm now curious as to what he's really saying about Hispanics? Dirty Mexicans?
Hi Kris,
As a general rule, I don't explain my comics, because I think it's more fun not to. But I feel I must step in on this one and assure you it has NOTHING to do with his ethnicity. Which, by the way, is not black. He's supposed to be Hispanic (like me) but that has nothing to do with it either. This is why you don't see a lot of minorities in the comics pages. Whenever people see someone of a different skin color in a comic, they always assume the joke must be about race.
Thanks for reading F Minus!

Since all the clothes on the line appear to be his, I think it's just a comment on how women have to take care of their lazy husbands. She apparently washed his clothes and bathed him and left everything hanging to dry.
And I read the funnies every day and I'm not ashamed to admit it. My grandfather used to say that a day without the funnies is like a day without...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ding ding ding we have a winner.
I thought it was pretty obvious.
Well that and the obvious wetback joke.

That's cool that he wrote back.
Did you follow up and say you were disappointed it wasn't meant to be a schwoogie on a rope?
Poor fucker is probably so inundated with sensitive and serious people he might enjoy a bit of humor about the thing.
