No. They say it's only really necessary for young children and old people. If that's not really true I can always have my doctor give me one.

Nope - used to get them every year and every year I'd wind up in bed for a week with the flu. Last two years I haven't gotten it and with the exception of a cold over New Year's (the annual New Year's cold) I haven't been sick.

It's a government conspiracy. Injecting little nano-robots into you to track your every move. Best advise is if you got your flu shot then line the inside of your baseball cap with aluminumn foil. It's your only hope....

Bumpy!

Big news is that the Swine Flu vaccines have arrived in St.Louis, the "Nasal Spray Version". And a lot of the hospitals are giving out the normal Flu Shots for free.

I'm thinking about getting one for the normal Flu, just so I don't have to deal with the shit for a week but as it was said...

I got my first and last this year. Sick for a week starting that day. Never again.

I'm paranoid that getting the shot is going to make me sick, even though I know that that's how all vaccines work basically.

Decisions...

No.

I caught the dreaded swine flu about three weeks ago. If you catch it, here is what you should expect....

fever
mild nausea
cough
sore throat
headache

After about five days the only symptom I still had was a very slight fever. The only medicine I took was tylenol for the fever. Basically, it's EXACTLY LIKE THE REGULAR FLU.

For the record, I'm thinking about the H1N1 shot just because they've got us all whipped into a frenzy about it.

I'm kind of feeling the same way. I stopped in a Walgreens a couple weeks ago just to get a soda and they were doing the regular flu shots, but hearing about the flu in the news so much I figured why not, since I'm here.

They did tell me that I now have to wait four to six weeks to get the swine flu shot, so if you do want to get the flu shot then the swine flu shot, just know you need at least a month between them.

Get one every year.

I work around lots of dirty people. Some houses I have to inspect are filled with South Americans with hacky coughs. Lots of sick kids too.

I can't take the risk of getting the flu.

Also, the H1N1 is carried more by Mexican population, which I see 80% of the time....

So I am on the list.

I also have a 14 month old, pregnant wife and will have a new baby in the next few weeks, so I have to be healthy.

I'm not going to say that you're drinking the kool aid or anything like that, but you can still get the flu even after the vac.

I always thought that you were better off building immunity naturally for stuff like this, and not living like a savage.

It's highly, highly unlikely that you'll get the same strain of flu that you were vaccinated against.

The natural immunity approach worked real well for the hundreds of millions of people around the world who were mown down like grass in the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic alone... including 28% of the entire US population... over half a million of which died... nice and naturally.

I think flu shots are for people of 65 and older. Best to build immunity naturally if anything take some licorice root and garlic tabs which boosts immunity.

They died nice & naturally.. in 1918. That's a dumb comparison.

I'm not saying they're a waste. I just don't see a need to be vaccinated for everything under the sun at my age & health condition. I also don't need antibiotics every time I get hurt or a cold either. People go to far with that stuff.

Heard about this on the radio last night, how aspirin might have helped make the 1918 flu even worse...

Misuse of aspirin may have made 1918 flu pandemic worse
2009-10-05 16:30:00
Aspirin could have been responsible for the steep death toll in the 1918 flu pandemic, says a new study.

High aspirin dosing levels used to treat patients during the 1918-1919 pandemic are now known to cause, in some cases, toxicity and a dangerous build up of fluid in the lungs, which may have contributed to the incidence and severity of symptoms, bacterial infections and mortality.

Additionally, autopsy reports from 1918 are consistent with what we know today about the dangers of aspirin toxicity, as well as the expected viral causes of death.

The motivation behind the improper use of aspirin is a cautionary tale, said study author Karen Starko of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).

In 1918, physicians did not fully understand either the dosing or pharmacology of aspirin, yet they were willing to recommend it.

Its use was promoted by the drug industry, endorsed by doctors wanting to 'do something', and accepted by families and institutions desperate for hope, says an IDSA release.

'Understanding these natural forces is important when considering choices in the future,' Starko said. 'Interventions cut both ways. Medicines can save and improve our lives. Yet we must be ever mindful of the importance of dose, of balancing benefits and risks, and of the limitations of our studies.'

These findings will appear in the November issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Basically, it's EXACTLY LIKE THE REGULAR FLU.

Except the haven't had a vaccine for it until very lately. That's what the hullabaloo is all about. The fact that it could spread very quickly without medicine to hamper it. Not that it is any more dangerous than the "regular" flu.

That is, except for the dummies that think the swine flu is the return of the Black Death.

I got my first flu vaccine (nasal spray) last week on Monday. All day Tuesday, I felt like shit. Headache, joint pain, all the shit. Fine on the following Wednesday.

Then this past Sunday I felt achy all day, and yesterday I had a moderate fever and felt like shit all day. I'm fine today.

I almost never get sick. I'm enough of a hand washer that it just doesn't happen very often. I'm not saying it's the vaccine's fault I got sick this past weekend, but I'm not going to be getting a vaccine next year.

Its extremely hard to get natural immunity to "the flu" because the virus mutates very rapidly. Each year is a different strain. They guess at which one will be dominant, and put in 2 to 3 strains that are most likely to be dominant. Its still just a guess, but its a decent one most years.

Exactly.
I think flu shots are for people of 65 and older. Best to build immunity naturally if anything take some licorice root and garlic tabs which boosts immunity.

Garlic and licorice root may boost your immune system, but not "immunity to the flu". The only thing that boosts that is getting the flu, and as said above, that only protects you against whatever strain you got - not other strains later.

I got my first flu vaccine (nasal spray) last week on Monday. All day Tuesday, I felt like shit. Headache, joint pain, all the shit. Fine on the following Wednesday.

The nasal spray is a live virus... weakened but live. The shot is dead. You cannot get the flu from the shot, but you CAN get the flu from the live virus in the nasal spray. People think the flu shot gives them the flu, but they are wrong.
