Ok. Just a little over 2 weeks to the Bud Shootout. At least that's still the name
it has at this time. Of course it's now the Sprint Cup series.
The full broadcast schedule has been released:

Cup Series Schedule here (http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2008/data/schedule.html)

The Busch Series is now the Nationwide series and the trucks are still the
Craftsman Series until next year. Air times are TBA.

Nationwide Series Schedule here (http://www.nascar.com/races/bg/2008/data/schedule.html)

Craftsman Series Schedule here (http://www.nascar.com/races/truck/2008/data/schedule.html)

I should be going to a couple of races this season, the 1st being Atlanta in March.

that Cup schedule link is coming up as the 07 schedule, that really confused me for a second before I realized it.

Anyway, is anyone going to Daytona, I'm thinking of heading up the day of and finding a ticket.

I should be a Tony fan, becuase almost every day someone lets me know that I resemble him, and I live in Nascar country. And I mean Nascar country (I live near the Childress Hall of fame, Hendrick home office, etc)

Not many drivers from Nascar in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona this year.

Pretty good racing so far. This is one of the few non-nascar races
that I always watch each year.

I told myself last year that I wouldnt end up being the douche who said this, but....

I'm actually intrigued to see how the CART/F1 guys do this year (Carpentier, Hornish, Villeneuve, etc., and the continuation of Montoyas career)

That being said, it's time for me to back a driver this year since Ward is out of a ride again.....

GO BOBBY LABONTE!!!!!!!

I'm hoping and PRAYING that DISH comes through with SPEED HD.....

I've called 3 times, chatting with online consultants, and prayed to a non-existent God, STILL NO FUCKING STRAIGHT ANSWER!

if Dish follows through as they normally do, I won't have SPEED HD for another 3 years.....god they suck.

You got that right. I hate to steal a line from from the movie Airplane, "and Tony's getting larger". His long hair isn't hiding that beer belly that he is growing. He's getting bigger than Junior Johnson was during his racing days. From what the drivers are saying it looks like the COT is all over the place due to the lack of down force, it might be a very interesting week at Daytona.

Toyota's did pretty well in that race. I knew once they had Gibbs'

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.

Those powerful, seemingly unbeatable Hendrick Motorsports cars had major engine problems Wednesday during practice for the Daytona 500.
Two-time defending champion and pole-sitter Jimmie Johnson, four-time series champ Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Casey Mears all were forced to change engines because of a lifter problem likely caused by a bad batch of coating.
"No, we did not have any of them that truly broke," Hendrick head engine builder Jeff Andrews said. "Right now we are looking at the lifters. We don't have anything apart yet. We just have assumptions based on some early signs we saw in some checkovers following that early practice.
The problem wasn't confined to the Hendrick roster. Haas CNC Racing, Furniture Row Racing and James Finch all buy engines from Hendrick. As of Wednesday evening, the No. 66 Haas CNC Chevrolet of Scott Riggs had undergone an engine change, as had the No. 07 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Clint Bowyer, whose engines come from an Earnhardt-Childress alliance.
"It's a concern, naturally, because it's a widespread problem," Andrews said. "But it's early enough that we can fix it.
"We have a group of guys back in Charlotte -- the best group of guys -- [and they] have already started on a fix for the program. We will get this stuff back, get it rebuilt and get it brought back down here. What we had to put in the cars, we have a lot of confidence in for [Thursday]."
The engine swaps will send those Chevrolets to the back of the field in their 150-mile qualifying races Thursday, which will help set the starting lineup for the Daytona 500. The engine change does not affect Jimmie Johnson's pole position for Sunday's Daytona 500, in that teams are allowed an engine change between the 150s and the Daytona 500.
In addition, four Toyotas changed engines or engine parts because of similar problems with the lifters (cylindrical parts that rest against the lobes of a camshaft and cause valves to open and close as the camshaft rotates). The drivers affected are Denny Hamlin, A.J. Allmendinger (http://www.nascar.com/drivers/dps/aallmend00/cup/), J.J. Yeley (http://www.nascar.com/drivers/dps/jyeley00/cup/) and Tony Stewart, all of whom must start from the rear Thursday.
"It wouldn't have lasted the 150s, and you don't want to risk it blowing up and starting an accident that would have taken other cars out," Johnson's crew chief, Chad Knaus, said.
Andrews believes the lifters came from a bad batch received from the company's supplier. Lifters from the same source had not caused problems in preseason testing at Daytona or during the Budweiser Shootout, which Earnhardt won.
Lifters used to be cast iron, but teams now use steel ones that need coating to slide. Since so many teams use the same coating company, one bad batch could lead to an engine epidemic.
"If the coating wears off just a little bit, it's like glass and then you have steel on steel and you have that coating going through your engine," said Richie Gilmore, who runs the joint engine program between Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Richard Childress Racing.
"Everybody's going to be pulling stuff apart and looking at it, and it might be a bigger issue."
Andy Graves, vice president of chassis development for Toyota Racing Development USA, said he had spoken with Andrews and did not believe the lifters in the Toyota engines came from the same source of those used by Hendrick.
"That's what makes it so weird," Graves said.
There was speculation, however, that the same company may have applied coatings to the lifters used by the Chevrolet and Toyota teams.
"As of right now, we haven't been able to determine that," Graves said.

Good thing they found the problem now. They should have no problem getting
a good starting spot from the Duals. 150 miles is a long time in a plate race.

At least they will get a good workout so they'll know if they got the motors fixed.

Unfortunately, his school commitment doesn't allow us to stay for Sunday's Nextel Sprint Cup race, but still, it'll be a good time. The chocolate covered cherries were a nice add-on as well. I have a question. I had the race on yesterday, as background noise. I looked up and the screen said lap 78 of 200. Am I missing something, shouldn't have been 78 of 500 or does that race(Camping 300) count?

ginaf20697

200 laps=500 miles

Well it is confusing because sometimes the number is the laps and sometimes it's the miles. Depends on the track.

fuckin Ragan took out Matt....that did not make me happy to see that...

glad to see JJ and Gordo not in the top 10...

nice win for Newman and Dodge killiing the top 10...

for the question about the miles/laps....like gina said its based on the miles and the track but daytona is a 2.5 mile track so 200 laps at 2.5 miles is 500 miles...

fuckin Ragan took out Matt....that did not make me happy to see that...

Me neither. I didn't see it but was told that it looked like something broke in the car.

BUT....

It looked liked he :
“I just bottomed out and shot up the track,” said Ragan. “I’m very disappointed in myself, not being aware that we were just out on new tires and I should have been more conscious of where I was on the race track. And I feel bad that I took out my teammate, Matt Kenseth, who was surely in contention for the win. I’m very disappointed to be sitting in the garage this late in the race and I just want to apologize to Matt Kenseth, DeWalt and his entire team.”

Cousin was looking pretty good before that. He does have a tendancy to get with teammates and follow, esp. with Edwards. I think he will have a better year. And I got Matt this week:D

In other news:
Friday practice and Qualifying for the Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway has been cancelled due to rain/wet track and the field will be be set by the rules book, top-35 in 2007 owners pts, one 2007 race winner, two past champs, three who in the top 35 in 2008 owners pts, then two by 2008 race attempts [ties broken my 2008 owners pts pos]. So #2-Busch [won a race in 2007], then #44-Jarrett and #21-Elliott in by the past champ, then #83-Vickers, #00-Reutimann and #55-Waltrip who are in the 2008 top 35 of owners pts, then #34-Andretti and #78-Nemechek [1 attempt, 40th and 41st in 2008 owners pts]. Five teams/driver who will not make the race are: #84-Allmendinger, #49-Schrader, #10-Carpentier, #27-Skinner and #08-Lamar.

and this little tidbit:

(I know we're in a rain delay and all...but,) why the FUCK do we have to have a 20 minute concert in the pre-race show for EVERY RACE!?!? It may make sense for like the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, and races of that caliber, but why at places like California and Pocono?

Remember when TNN and ESPN would broadcast old races during rain delays? That was awesome, because my whole reason for tuning in to these things is to watch a race!

Well, the way NASCAR figures it, they would rather have a few people in the stands watching the race right now, rather than the zero that would show up tomorrow.

You would think that in order for a track to have 2 races a year they would at least need to sell out one of them.

They should, but I know when the 3rd delay had started JR and Hamlin were already out on the track, IDK about the other cars. And even if they go to back ups they will still be at least 20 laps down.

Edwards loses 100 points, fined $100K for infraction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Carl Edwards used two straight wins to take the Sprint Cup points lead for the first time in his career.
On Wednesday, NASCAR said his Las Vegas victory was tainted and slammed Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team with its strictest penalty yet. Edwards was docked 100 points — knocking him out of first place — and stripped him of the 10 bonus points he would have carried into the Chase for the championship.

In addition to Edwards' penalty, crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $100,000 and suspended six weeks, and Jack Roush was docked 100 owner points.

The penalties stem from post-race inspection Sunday when NASCAR discovered the cover was off the oil tank in the race-winning No. 99 Ford.

Rival competitors on Monday circulated a photo via e-mail of Edwards doing a celebratory backflip off his car, and the cover is clearly not attached to the oil tank. It's believed that by opening up the oil tank trunk, the air is able to circulate through the car and create as much as 10 percent more downforce.

NASCAR did not comment on the penalties because it expects the Roush team to appeal.

Edwards declined immediate comment after the penalties were released. Earlier Wednesday, while he was awaiting word on his punishment, he said he wasn't concerned with whatever NASCAR handed down because "it's not going to change how I drive, so I'm not going to sweat it."

That likely changed after NASCAR's ruling, which is the toughest to date toward infractions on its Car of Tomorrow.

NASCAR has shown an intolerance toward any modifications to the car it spent years developing and began using full time this season. And the infraction was expected to be tough based on recent precedent: NASCAR suspended five Nationwide Series crew chiefs two weeks ago because their oil tank covers were simply loose.

Some of those teams have appealed, and the National Stock Car Racing Commission this week overturned one of the penalties and amended several others.

But Edwards' cover was actually off the tank, which is a far bigger grievance with less room for reasonable explanation than a loose cover.

Because NASCAR does not typically strip teams of victories, the penalty did the closest thing to it. Under a tweak made last season to the championship Chase, drivers earn 10 bonus points for every victory earned during the 26-race "regular season."

Those points are used to seed the 12-man field for the Chase. Before Wednesday's announcement, Edwards already had earned 20 points. With the 100-point penalty, he dropped from the top of the standings to seventh.

Ballbuster1
03-05-2008, 08:39 PM
HAHA. Pretty funny. I'm glad they took away the 10 point bonus.
For teams that will definitely be in the chase further down the road
not taking them away would have been an enticement to cheat during
the last few races of the "pre chase" season.

Will be hitting the dog racing track shortly.

Got a full day at the track tomm. Gotta be there at 8am and we'll get to meet Carl Edwards,

Then it's off to the suite to watch the race.

I wonder if Smoke will remain in Nascar much longer.
Other than winning the Daytona 500 he's done it all.

Now with the reformed Indy League he could
go back and try for that elusive Indy 500 win.

He's certainly in a good place now in his career.

I know A LOT of the drivers were bitching on their radios and Jeffie was also bitching on the pre-race show.

eta-I guess he bitched after the race too

Georgia Power NASCAR Sprint Cup Pole winner Jeff Gordon didn't have rave reviews about Goodyear's tire selection either. "I felt like I was going to crash every single lap," Jeff Gordon said about his run. "I'm exhausted right now. I feel like I've run a thousand miles here. That was the hardest day I have ever had at Atlanta, especially for a top-five finish. This car, this tire, at this track was just terrible."(AMS Pit Notes)

Keep finding stuff :)

"I know Goodyear doesn't like criticism, but I'm not going to sit here and put up with this," said Dale Earnhardt Jr. after his third-place finish. "We couldn't race side by side or we would wreck. Hopefully we can all get along and do something about this."

A few teams will participate in a tire test Monday at Darlington Raceway.

"Please don't bring this tire to Darlington," Earnhardt said. "As horrible as today was, that would be worse. I'm not part of the test, but I'm going just to ask drivers how it feels out there."

Earnhardt said he'd rather take a chance on blowing a softer tire than trying to race the hard tire.

"I went from running a tire with the cords showing to one that I could still see the center line after 30 laps," Earnhardt said. "Good Lord, there has to be a lot of room in between. This can't be where we're headed."

So far yesterday, Gordon, Jr, and Smoke all complained about the tires, and those complaints are from 3 top ten finishers in yesterday's race. For them to complain, must really mean that the tires absolutely suck, and something really needs to get done.

Besides that, did anyone else see on the Speed Channel last night, the blasting the commentators were giving on the "bump rubbers". Apparantely, no one likes the bump rubbers either.
