3 On Your Side: Economic Stimulus Peckidge Details
http://llnw.image.cbslocal.com/75x56/jimdonovan.bmp Reporting
Jim Donovan (http://cbs3.com/bios/jim.donovan.3.9.230610.html)
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Good news from Washington D.C. Thursday, the details of a proposed economic stimulus peckidge have finally been nailed down. Most tax filers will receive tax rebate checks of between $600 and $1,200, or even more if they have children.
Here is a breakdown of how it will affect you:
- Individuals who pay income taxes will get up to $600 tax rebate check.
- Working couples will get up to $1,200 in a tax rebate check
- Families with children will get an additional $300 per child.
- Workers who make at least $3,000, but whose income is too low to require that they file a tax return, would receive $300.
The tax rebate checks will phase out gradually depending on your income:
- Individuals making between $75,000 and $87,000 will get a partial rebate.
- Couples making between $150,000 and $174,000 will get a partial rebate.
- These income caps will rise slightly for those with children.
The income levels above are based on your adjusted income, not your gross income. But don't spend the money just yet! This economic stimulus peckidge still has to be approved by the full Congress and even then, the checks aren't expected to mailed out until around June.

The only question I have had since I saw this is, if you are married with kids, do you get $1200 plus $300 per kid ??
Or is it $1200 only if both parents work ??

Lewis black out it best...they are giving us money to remind us of how fucked we really are! I love the wording..up to 600. Does that mean because I only make 30 a year I am only gonna get 300? I hope not or I'm just gonna rip up the fuckinh check. How about giving all the young kids who have a shitload of student loan debt. Put a 15k amnesty on private student loans for people who have 40k+ in loans and are under 28.

ok, I watched the Repub debate last night just because I like to be educated (not going to vote for one)....and the only person that made any sense on commenting about the 'economic stimulus' idea was that hayseed Huckabee (and if he weren't a religious whackjob, I'd consider him...). Anyway, Huckabee said that the economic stimulus package was a dumb idea and that the money could have been better utilized by widening I-95 2 lanes, both directions, from Maine to Florida. It would create jobs, ease congestion, and also increase US production of steel, etc. Makes sense to me.

I just want to know why do the Dems have such a hard-on for the poor. Bush wanted $800 - $1600, but the Dems said "what about the poor that make $3000 and don't pay taxes". Fuck them! How the fuck do you make less than $3000? That is less than 10 hours a week @ federal minimum wage. They should be happy enough that they don't have to contribute, via income tax, to supporting our country. "Oh, don't worry mister poor person, I will give the government 28% of my salary so that you do not have to worry. By the way, here is an extra $300 just for you being you."
This is why I have to be a Rep. even though I hate religion, am pro-abortion, and pro-science. Fuck the poor, get off your lazy ass and get a job.

This is definitely the big reason why I lean to the right slightly...and I go along the lines with you regarding abortion, science, and religion. I would venture to guess that some people making under $3K have no ambitions of working hard and doing what's right to get a higher paying job so that they can support themselves and even their family. That's how this country is supposed to work, there should be no freebies. And that $300 is not going to be spent in the right place. But for the fuckfaces that "play" the system then whine and complain about how the government is holding the down...that's bullshit. Why do they deserve anything?
I know I sound like an ol codger, but it's hard to look at someone who is making just enough to support their family by working hard and long hours, than look at someone who has little ambitions and hardly working and gets half to third of what that hard worker is going to get.

i dont even know were to begin with how awful this idea is.
Didn't they try this about 6 years ago ($300), and it didn't do shit..?Actually, just the opposite. The rebates ended up being a huge boost for the economy. It just wasn't obvious because we were still reeling from 9-11. We may have fallen into recession without it.
It's not the best way to boost the economy, but it's proven to work. Some the pork-barrel Welfare stuff doesn't do a damn thing but make people feel good, but the cash to the lower middle class does end up effecting the bottom line of those above. No one really puts the money in the bank. Anyone who fits within the income level that will get cash tend to be either poor, in debt, horrible with money or loaded with bills. (I fit at least two of those).
This method also allows the stimulus to be evenly spread across the country.
Like I said, it's not the best way to do it, but for a peckidge that needed to be completed "now," it's not bad.

No shit. If Corzine's driver had been a little better;) at his job, the asshole wouldn't be around now to keep fucking over the people of New Jersey. Not that the rest of the lawmakers there are any better, but it'd be one less to worry about.
BTW, I'm at the lower end of the income bracket here, so this stimulus thing would be of some benefit to me. I've been wanting to start some kind of investment plan for myself before I turn 25. I'd be able to rustle up the extra 400 bucks and hopefully put a full G towards something that would hopefully benefit me in my later years.
That or I could go on a trip for a few days. Maybe to somewhere in Canada or just blow it all in Las Vegas. Never been to either place, so it'd be a good experience for me.

I'll take the money but I'm so goddamn sick of hearing about the "poor" who don't pay taxes. Every fucking year these "poor" work just enough to get earned income credit and rake in 3, 4, or 5,000+ in tax refunds because they're "poor". Not money they paid in, mind you, but free money because they can't get their shit together. Meanwhile, I'm damn lucky if we don't have to pay on top of what we've already paid in.
Just because you have less than me does not necessarily mean you're "less fortunate" than me. Most of the time it means you're lazy and have no ambition. Fuck you. Give me my 1200.00.

Of course he's right. But there's one problem. Using the money to build roads would benefit only people who work. Welfare is specifically designed to buy the loyalty of those who don't work.
OK good point sir. Considering that there are a shitload of former auto workers in Michigan, seems like a reasonable transition to me (then again, one would think that the auto workers would have seen the writing on the wall for the past decade and would have tried to change their employment options long before now, but I digress).
There's a HUGE difference between people who cannot work vs those asshats who refuse to work because they won't make enough money so why bother. I believe that we have a responsibility to help those in our society who are unable to care for themselves financially, but I also believe that there must be a payback of time/resources for their financial support (I've had this argument in my own gimp community and I'm a gimp who works at a regular job). I think that most of us can agree this is reasonable (but this is wackbag, so who knows......).
People who CAN work but don't because they are lazy, stupid, pump out crack babies, whatever......I feel no empathy. Say a dumbass 16 year old gets knocked up and decides she's keeping her baby (for whatever reasons) but she manages to get her GED and is continuing her education....in other words, being relatively responsible.....then sure, as long as she continues to help herself, she can receive some supportive services. If she drops out of all of it and lives off the dole to be a babymomma, screw her, she had her chance.
But back to the stimulus peckidge.....the SMART lower income folks will use it to pay down some debt, take care of a large bill, invest it, whatever.....but most of them will "stimulate the economy" by buying crap they don't need which has been imported from China.
For the record, the Mr. and I will not receive a check out of this peckidge. We're fortunate, and we know it. However, living in this lovely hellhole of NJ, we're certainly not wealthy (this state is so fucking expensive it makes Massachusetts and Connecticut look like a bargain basement)

I agree with everything you just said.
That being said, I also believe that's not the government's job, and if left to the compassion of a free people in a free market, those problems will all but vanish because people will have money in their own pockets and less fear, so they will actually stimulate their own economy, and feel like they did something today other than punch a clock to barely survive.
Edit: And I say this knowing full well this turns into a chicken or the egg debate... Does oppressive government create lack of compassion or does a lack of compassion cause an oppressive government, etc... We've tried expanding the oppressive government for over a century, why not try back off a bit and see if national pride actually rebounds?

Chicken and egg is a good way to describe the debate. Personally, I do think it's the government's responsibility to care for its citizens out of the tax dollars collected as the pre-eminent entity, but I can see where you are going with your argument, and am not so narrow-minded to give it a patent thumbs down. Then again, I would love to see a change in how we see basic human rights (food, shelter, medical care) in our own country as evidenced in Sicko.
We've tried expanding the oppressive government for over a century, why not try back off a bit and see if national pride actually rebounds?

>>Congress Passes Econ Stimulus Package; Measure Headed To President
(Washington, DC) -- Congress passed a nearly 152-billion-dollar plan that will send rebate checks to millions of Americans. The House passed the final bill by 380 to 34, just hours after the Senate cleared the measure with a vote of 81 to 16. The legislation is now on its way to President Bush, who is expected to sign the bill next week. Under the measure, individuals will get 600-dollars, couple will receive 12-hundred plus 300 for each child. Low-income people, including retirees on Social Security and disabled veterans who pay no income taxes, would receive 300-dollars.

First it was assisting the all the stupid, too lazy to get informed, home buyers out there, now it's this.
How about save the tax rebate and put it toward the budget you presented with the $400 billion deficit (that is expected to be almost $1 trillion when it's all said and done). Stupid fucking jackoff. January can't get here fast enough.

what made me ashamed to be a republican is the documentary i just saw on the war in iraq. i know it is 2 years old but i just saw it. how corrupt is everybody in our government? good god its money laundering at its best. our taxes pay $99 for every load of laundry, 250k for 2 years of leasing a truck that you could buy for 50k. if a vehicle(which is brand new) has a problem like a flat tire, they burn the truck so they can buy a new one and bill us. wtf and bush kept paying them. i dont remember the title but it was just on hbo and it is flat out disgusting and our taxes get raised..... go fuck yourself
that is why i could never vote for that cunt or anyone who thinks like her.
Obama.

You know the irony? The Senate stimulus package, written by a key democrat, would have given money to more people - would have raised the caps on who got money to something like 300k for married people and 150k for single people. My understanding is, initially, he didn't want any income cap for getting the money.

This package has me ashamed to call myself a Republican. As did the previous tax rebate. How about lowering taxes period, rather than a token hand-out every few years.

I agree. I wish one of the two parties would actually try to limit spending. It won't happen though. Too many votes they gotta buy.

I laughed at my ex wife the other day...she makes too much on her own to qualify for the refund. However, had she waited 22 days to sign the divorce papers, she would have qualified and could have filed jointly with me. Oh well.
