Why skip the B?

Why do all pc makers skp the B drive go from A (usually floppy) to C (usually hd)

Back in the day:


Drive A: 3.5" floppy

Drive B: 5.25" floppy

Drive C: hard drive

Even earlier back in the day:

Drive A: 5.25" floppy

Drive B: 5.25" floppy

Hard drive? What's that?

Drive A: 8.0" floppy

Drive B: 8.0" floppy

I love the 8 inch size disks... like holding a pizza..

It's just some of the old PC stuff that was never changed.
