I think the Giants have more than a puncher's chance in this one. You have to think they'll be carrying a little swagger in to Arizona after having hung with, and even led the Patriots by as much as 12 in week 17 and having improved since then.

There QB will buckle under the pressure,,,they haven't faced the "new Maroney," (when the pats set up for the run he cant be stopped), and they are lethal in warm temps,,,so have fun tripple covering Moss and leaving the rest of the crew open to score,,,then change it up and let moss be one on one to burn you guys,,,then try to stop our run,,,and make sure your qb with his ten year old face is shaking like a leaf staring at a Defense that is trying to go UNDEFEATED,,,and try to trash talk and do some extra pushing on the field like Seymour (only don't get caught cause' he has perfected it,,,I also see them falling for NE's mind games and getting a bunch of 15 yard penalties)

You won't be able to find all out gloating like ol' norton has done from a Yankees fan. And I believe Yankee fans had to take it pretty hard after 2004. This is payback for that and instead of focusing on an entire fanbase (which isn't fair) we focus on the most obnoxious of the bunch.

For the record, I don't hate the Patriots at all. I would have rooted for them against anyone but the Giants. The fact that the fucking Giants were the team to beat them and shut up some of their most obnoxious fans makes it all the more sweet.

The whole thing though is pretty tongue in cheek. I think everyone just wants to see him make an appearance and take his beating. After that he will have to endure the occasional quip here and there but other than that he will be free to go back and taunting over the accomplishments of teams that he isn't a part of.

This whole week has been stellar. The Giants winning, the allegations about the Patriots spying on the Rams before the Super Bowl, just all around good times. Personally, I don't care about the camera bullshit since a lot of teams probably do it, but the point is that when that Mitchell Report came up and all of the Yankee players were in it some people were giving me crap about the 2000 World Series and how they cheated. I just told them that of course Yankee players would get bagged, the two biggest informants that Mitchell had access to were based in New York. It doesn't mean that others didn't cheat. Now the shoe is on the other foot with the spying and I just love it.

Hell, I'll be the first to say I'm no Giants fan. I was, for one game, and that was ONLY because it was a Boston vs. NY game, otherwise I would have gone against the Giants. Boston has absolutely no room to say anything about bandwagon fans, and I know that you know that Salem, from our jabs at each other in the baseball thread. This was purely a state thing, and please, Boston fans were hanging and still hanging on that playoff win over the Yanks in 2004. I saw a douchebag in a Boston jersey at a Yankee game, when they weren't even playing each other. Tell me if he would have had the balls to do so if they never won the WS? Hell, I'll be the first to say I'm no Giants fan. I was, for one game, and that was ONLY because it was a Boston vs. NY game, otherwise I would have gone against the Giants. One of my friends was trashing Eli as late as week 12 yet I just looked at pictures of him from the SB game where hes wearing a fucking Eli jersey. Truth is, its hard to be on your team 100% of the time. There were plenty of moments last season where I pretty much gave up on the yankees.

No...the point is that Patriots fans were the most conceited, cockiest people all year long taking advantage of any chance to throw their team's record in the the face of a fan of ANY OTHER team and constantly claim they couldn't be beaten. And now that their season doesn't mean fuck all, people are gonna give it back to all those Patriot fans. Deal with it. I was going to write up a big thing explaining how I am a "true fan" but, fuck it...think what you want, I don't give a shit.

Baseball is my first sport and I was born and raised in The Bronx as a Yankees fan. Period.

My family spent a lot of time in Miami when I was a kid and I was raised as a Dolphins fan. When I got to an age where I wanted to make my own choices, the Jets and their "Sack Exchange" were the big deal. Not to be a front runner, I chose to follow the G-Men. The Fish are my second team in the NFL.

Same with hockey...moved from The Bronx to L.I. in 79-80 when the Islanders were on the verge of exploding....I was 10. Wasn't really a hockey fan but, all my new friends were and they ALL followed the Islanders. I started to get into hockey and wanted my own team to follow for the rest of my life. For the following reasons, I chose to follow the Rangers...Not to be a front runner, to be true to my NYC roots, to be different and just to be a dick.

I don't really care about basketball but, I WILL hop on the Knicks bandwagon whenever they make the playoffs. I am a total Knick bandwagon fan.

I wasn't arguing anything about the corollaries between the games, just the Yankee and Patriot comparison. People really hate the Yankees, because they won, they spent money, they had an asshole like Steinbrenner running the team, and their fans have the reputation for being assholes. People hate the Patriots because they won, they spent money and brought in a shit load of talent (besides smartly drafting etc), they had an asshole like Belichek coaching the team, and their fans have the reputation for being assholes.

Ah I see, I need to post on a fucking message board to be considered a Giants fan. So the fact that I grew up watching the Giants my whole life, and been to games, that it doesn't make a Giants fan. The comparison between the Mariners and the Pats is that they both had incredible, history making regular seasons, then came out of the season with absolutley nothing. The 04 Yankees werent supposed to be "unbeatable" or historic. So, by nature, the two teams who set the bar for wins in a season in their respective sports and then blew it when it counted (01 M's and the 07 Pats) get compared to one another. If the 96 Chicago UnstoppaBulls would have lost in the Finals, they would be there too. Except they could handle the pressure of makig history.

I think the thread also allows other teams fans to let off some pent up frustration that had been building all season, from having the Patriots shoved down their throats. I understand the media coverage of the historic run, if they went 19-0, but there was some overkill. From seeing 13 Patriots game this season, to not being able to watch ESPN sometimes. To seeing many Boston sports media personalities(Bob Ryan I'm looking right at you) waxing poetically about the Patriots, being more biased than usual.

Counting the two playoff games and the Super Bowl. Just about. Here the games I have seen:

2 games against the Jets
Eagles, Ravens, Bills (these three games were all in a row)
Cowboys
Colts
Giants (last game of the season)
Chargers (second game of the season)

Okay it was 12 total games, but now you can see why alot of people were tired of the Patriots.

Theres no comparison to the 04 yankees because they didnt set every offensive category and the fan base wasnt running around all season with their Super Bowl rings picked out (ala Norton23). I dont even remember the Yankees being favored to win that series. Especially with Shilling and Pedro going 1-2.
I would discredit it but you do a good job right off the bat of that by saying that you cant compare the baseball playoffs to the football ones. So right there, not the same thing.

Forgotten in 10 years will be the 18-1 Pats. As much as I dont like Eli and the giants, 10 years from now that play and their win will be still talked about.
The pats got lucky in a couple of those games (ahem Ravens) and pull that huge 'regular' season off. I think its a bit stupid to think that people are thinking they will be perfect next year. I hate to break it to you but they were far from it this season. From that Philly game on, they were not that team that was winning 58-10 anymore. They D was exposed and they were able to hang on in a couple of those games. Hell, even the Jets had a shot in their 2nd game. That O line could be in serious trouble and who knows how Moss is going to react in the offseason.

I don't think they compare either. The closest comparison that I can think of off the top of my head was 1996 Atlanta Braves losing 4 in a row after crushing the Yanks in the first two. When the Yankees blew it in 2004 (still have visions of the damn Clark ground rule double in Game 5) I still wore my Giambi jersey and Yankee hat. I always think of a 'choke' as having it in hand and letting it slip away. I don't really think you can classify the Pats as a 'choke'. It's not like they blew a big lead. The Giants pretty much pushed them around start to finish. Norwood missing that kick will always be the biggest Super Bowl choke in my opinion. I know 48 yds is tough, but you pretty much have to make that kick.

Bills were actually involved in 2 other massive chokes that also rank ahead of the Pats' loss: The Music City Miracle, where they allowed the Titans to run a kickooff back for a TD with no time left to lose a playoff game, and their massive comeback against the Oilers in the playoffs a few years earlier.

In my opinion, the biggest choke in NFL history has got to be the Browns fumbling away the AFC Championship game against the Broncos in 1987. Romo's fumble also has to rank pretty high.

So there's 5 chokes right there that I think rank above the Pats' loss. In their fervor to rub it in, Giants fans seem to keep losing sight of how well their team actually played.

Top 5 baseball chokes that I can think of:

Yankees 2004. Hard for me to imagine anyone will ever lose a 3-0 lead in the World Series. That's pretty much all that could knock this one off the list.

Red Sox 1986. Two World Series will never erase the fact that the Mets erased a Two Run lead with Two Outs in the bottom of the 10th. And don't forget the Red Sox were winning Game 7 but choked that one away as well.

Angels 1986. Angels were up 3 games to 1 and took a 5-2 lead into the 9th. In typical Sox fashion, they actually gave up the tying run AFTER the famous Henderson Home Run, but for some mystifying reason the Angels left Moore in to pitch two more innings after that. Angels also led in Game 6 before being outscored 18-2 over the final 17 innings.

Mets 2007. This one was made even worse by the un-deserving Phillies getting ass-***** in the Divisional Series.

Cubs 2003. They were up 3-1 at one point in the series and took a 3-0 lead into the 8th inning of Game 6. Like the Sox, they also led in Game 7 before re-choking.

Again, the Mariners' 2001 season doesn't count because they never really had a chance to win the ALCS. The Yankees dominated that series from the outset. The Yankees blowing the lead in Game 7 was a bigger choke than what happened to the Mariners.

Romo's snap fumble, not a choke because the NFL had been waxing the balls all season, causing many snap fumbles with complaints by teams, not to mention that their D wasn't good enough to stop Seattle from marching down the field for a comeback FG, with plenty of time. If it were just seconds left, then more of a chance for it to be a choke.

Norwood's missed FG, not a choke because of the distance. Anything under 40 and you can start there or an extra point but not a 48 yarder even in perfect conditions. Of course you have to make it, you have to make everything in the Super Bowl, still doesn'tmake it a gimme.

The other games, again, if two or more games are involved, then it's not a choke unless against an undeserved team. The Buckner game would have been one if that play was for the series but that wasn't the last game. For NYer's, that was just a Point and Laugh because of the rivalry.

Romo's snap fumble, not a choke because the NFL had been waxing the balls all season, causing many snap fumbles with complaints by teams, not to mention that their D wasn't good enough to stop Seattle from marching down the field for a comeback FG, with plenty of time. If it were just seconds left, then more of a chance for it to be a choke.

Norwood's missed FG, not a choke because of the distance. Anything under 40 and you can start there or an extra point but not a 48 yarder even in perfect conditions. Of course you have to make it, you have to make everything in the Super Bowl, still doesn'tmake it a gimme.

The other games, again, if two or more games are involved, then it's not a choke unless against an undeserved team. The Buckner game would have been one if that play was for the series but that wasn't the last game. For NYer's, that was just a Point and Laugh because of the rivalry.

but it took more than one chance to lose it. That ,to me, is a collapse, which is worse ( or maybe the same thing to others). Not that it was a given anyway, Boston was good and baseball is a streaky game, but overall anytime you have more than one chance, I see it more monumental than a flukey choke. Football is a one game shot, although you could see the season as a collapse. People may see it different but I'd rather choke than collapse.

However, the team as a whole was just beaten.

I think they did quite a bit to lose that series but they were the victim of bad bounces that karma owed them for such things as Jeff Maier and Timo Perez not knowing how to run. Game 5 is a forgotten game in 2004 and the Yankees had a few chances to win that but just a few bad bounces and they were done. After that momentum (and Kevin Brown) cost them. Another wrinkle is that going into that season I said that the Red Sox were the better team. The only reason they didn't beat them in the standings is because Francona sucks cock as a manager.

It was the Red Sox time to win and they did. As time goes on I notice that I blame the Yankees less and less for that one (although Gary Sheffield and Kevin Brown can go fuck themselves).

I always look at that as a massive collapse. A choke is more or less one moment where someone blew a chance to win. You can say Mo choked in the 9th inning of game 4 but the team as a whole just fell apart and couldn't get the job done.
