WFTV 9: Dozens Injured At WrestleMania XXIV Last Night
03/31/2008 by Ryan Gray

WFTV 9 out of Orlando is reporting that dozens of fans were injured last night at WrestleMania XXIV when fireworks plunged into the crowd and exploded. Three fans were transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries including burns. Victim Barbara Vetere was quoted as saying "It felt like a whip. I have a welt on my neck. Like a baseball bat hit me. It was horrible. Horrible."

According to the article, during the final match, Edge vs. The Undertaker, the pyrotechnics malfunctioned sending fireworks and hot cables into the crowded stands.

Greg Hoggatt of the Orlando Fire Department said, "You can see the marks on a few people where hot wires crossed and fireworks touched them." Firefighters said they acted quickly but Vetere said, "We had to sit up in the bleachers and wait for a paramedic to come. They didn't really examine us. And we had to walk all the way down to first aid and had to ask for a bag of ice just to put on our head."

WWE has yet to comment on the incident.

More Backstage News & Notes From WrestleMania 24
03/30/2008 by Ryan Clark

The handler who was taking most of the bumps during the Big Show-Mayweather match was Charles "The Hammer" Evans, who has been in developmental for a while.

As I noted earlier, everyone was pleased with Mania backstage. Lots more tomorrow.

I have not heard of any major injuries from the show thus far other than the minor bumps and bruises.

The reason the Triple Threat Match did not go on last as planned is obviously because they didn't do a title change and they wanted a big event to end the show.

WM24 Notes: Fake Money, Fireworks Accident, Celebrities Backstage
03/31/2008 by Steve Carrier

- The money that dropped during the Floyd Mayweather entrance was not real money. A source at the scene described it as "Mayweather Money" and said he believes Floyd's face was on the money that fell. Click Here to see a photo of one of the bills that were actually dropped.

- John Morrison's name was misspelled on the big screen or scoreboard. He was listed as"you guessed it"Jim Morrison.

- Several Celebrities were spotted backstage at WrestleMania 24 last night. Photos of these celebrities have made their way online. You can view them at This Link.

- As we reported over the weekend, Hulk Hogan was recently spotted with his new girlfriend. Photos can be seen at This Link.

- Details are still sketchy, but there was a fireworks accident at the end of the show. A source reports that the word going around was that EMTs had been called to the scene, but nothing has been confirmed. A reporter who was at the show told one of his colleagues that a fireworks line broke and the spinning fireworks landed on fans in the upper deck. No one was hurt but you can see photos of the damage at This Link.

Power Failure At 'Mania 24, Mania 25 Location, More
03/30/2008 by Ryan Clark

A power failure occurred at WrestleMania XXIV during the Bunny Mania match. According to several correspondents they lost lights, all the monitors, and the huge video board above the ring. While the engineering crew worked vigorously to get the power back on, they used backup power to light the ring. Several people reported that it was very hard to see the ending of the Bunny Mania match as the backup power had very limited lighting. The power was restored shortly after the Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H match started.

During WrestleMania XXIV a commercial ran for next year’s WrestleMania which will be held at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Of course next year will be the 25th anniversary of ‘Mania.

WWE announced that WrestleMania XXIV set an attendance record at the Citrus Bowl hosting 74,635 fans.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Fire department officials say a fireworks malfunction at a Wrestlemania event has left about 40 people with minor injuries.

Fans packed the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium for the event Sunday night. Fire officials say the fireworks flew into the crowd.

Orton pinned Cena. HHH hit the pedigree on Cena, went for the pin, and Orton mule kicked HHH off of Cena. Orton then covered Cena for the pin.

First of all, 'Taker used the Gogoplata, the new submission he's been getting over for almost 2 months now. Pay attention. It was also a damn good finish, and the only time thus far he's actually used the hold at a good time. Up until yesterday, except for maybe once, he was standing and had to reach down and grab the arm and set it up to apply the move. This time, it was perfectly done. Edge hits the spear but lands in 'Taker's guard and doesn't realize he didn't knock him out, so 'Taker grabs the hold and taps him out. And the crowd popped HUGE when he locked in the hold.

Stop bitching about it you faggots.

Also, Batista/Umaga was a complete mess. It was a big bag of horseshit.

Right now CM Mark has a tear in his eye. Though that Shelton Benjamin started sunset flip into a suplex and powerslam was the highlight of the match.that spot was crazy...I was going to post during the show, but my wireless was being wonky. Loved Shelton's spot where he crashed through the ladder

HAHA they pulled Coach. The King is doing Smackdown with ColeI think they did that because it was Raw vs. Smackdown...may as well do a split announcing squad.

And thats what the WWE thinks of ECW.perhaps a bit less than that...

Holy Shit Kane just won the ECW Championship, in the shortest match ever, and I could care less, because Kane just won the championship.... JD are you as excited as me with this?yeah I was very happy that he's got a title now. Very stoked

I'm not going to say the main event, but there is no way in hell this match should be happening before Show/Mayweather.yeah, I was not a fan of Flair's match going on before that abortion-in-waiting

holy shit...cracked rib right thereholy shit, that looked like it really hurtWOW OMG
I really hope that shawn isnt hurt WOW

Shawn is definitely hurtwow. he had to crack somethingfuck that was sabu-esqueyeah that moonsault onto the table had to fucking take a lot out of him

Everytime Flair takes a dangerous bump, anybody else gets concerned???only over the last..umm...7 years of watching him work.

WHAT AN ASS...Shawn started the sharpshooter and went for the figure 4he's been using an "inverted figure 4" for the last couple of weeks. I was thinking to myself that if Flair reversed it, it would have been a sharpshooter

shawn hit 2 superkicks, flair stood up before the last one and screamed at him to do it, shawn said im sorry, hit the kick, covered him then immediately jumped off and hugged him, flair was crying before shawn even hit the 2nd kick
yeah, I even teared up at the end of the match...fuckin amazing match. Great way to end Flair's career, I wonder when/how they're going to do the send off tonight on Raw
No blood from 2 guys who are know to blade during the money matches...THAT surprised me.yeah, I was pretty shocked at that too...did anybody blade last night? I don't even think Finlay or JBL juiced in the Belfast Brawl

big clothes line from snoop and then he steals another white bitch from ushah, I chuckled at the clothesline

I just threw up in my mouth.ew. now shes tainted.:( Oh well, at least we saw her in Playboy beforehand. Although she looked ridiculous last night.

It is the feed or does Beth Phoniex actually look somewhat hot?she did look pretty damned good last night. Mickie, Victoria, & Layla were all crazy hot last night too (in my opinion)

a mostly black marching band doing Cen'as entrance. haha i find that slightly funnyhis peoples playing his musicare the lights still out?hahahahahhahahhahahahahhahaha

WM would be the biggest sucess ever if HHH wins and brings back the Eagle belt. I hate that ****** belt
I miss the Eagle so fuckin badly. Even the "Undisputed Heavyweight Championship" belt was better than this ugly spinner bullshit.
hahahaha the crippler crossface
I was loving that spot...didn't HBK use it a couple of weeks ago too?
Hahaha thats a long ass run for the backpoor lil' Naitch...I'd be fucking blown up by the end of the sprint. Take some time to throw-up at ring side, then go make the count

Orton pinned Cena. HHH hit the pedigree on Cena, went for the pin, and Orton mule kicked HHH off of Cena. Orton then covered Cena for the pin.
Ahhh, I was really drunk last night. Oh well

just because he uses it and it "gets over" doesn't mean we have to like it. I'll admit, it was set up great by the spear & Edge putting his arm on him. Still don't care for the move.

Overall I enjoyed the show Flair-Michaels cemented it for me, hated the triple threat only b/c i hate orton and cena, Show-Mayweather was what it was, kind of entertaining but had to be a let down no matter what. Was glad to see the taker win, but i fucking hate that stupid submission.

Anyone hear anything on the plans for Flair now? I mean i know he's retiring from the ring, but does he plan to stick around as a manager or Gm or something? would love to see that something to give him the mic time without having to cringe and pray to god he doesn't get seriously hurt week after week.

I was pleasently surprised my Orton winning, and as i stated before im glad for him because that cements his legacy in the WWE.

Yea i noticed that they split the announce team for the Smackdown vs. Raw match. i just had a dumb moment.

Commish you must be happy that HHH didnt win last night.:haha7:

Along with Randy, im really happy for edge because he had a damn good showing and Taker put him over really nicely. Edge lost nothing in that match at all.

A moment that i will never forget in my entire life. Ric looks up to Shawn crying and yells just do it. Shawn says, im sorry and i love you, kicks ric. both laying int the center of the ring crying. Amazing moment that i will never forget. Thank you Ric for everything that you have done. God Bless.

Raw *Spoiler*, Emotions Backstage 'Mania, ESPN/Mayweather

- One veteran worker said that last night was one of the most emotional nights that they have ever witnessed in a WWE locker room with the retirement match of Ric Flair. When Flair returned backstage from his match against Shawn Michaels he received a very warm reception from the entire WWE roster. Many stars embraced Flair and shared tears with him.

- ESPN is actually covering the Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather match at WrestleMania XXIV as if it were a legitimate fight. You can check out the video on the right side of the main page of ESPN.com.

- Superstars from all three WWE brands will be at tonight's Raw at the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida. As we reported earlier, all WWE superstars were told to attend tonight's taping.

I liked the finish of 'Taker/Edge because it wasn't the same old shit that always ends his matches. One of my favourite things in wrestling is when guys regularly end matches with a multitude of different things instead of finishing a match with the same move every single time. I was glad to see that cool spot. As for the rest of the show...

Eh. I thought it was alright. If it wasn't for the fact that this show had an amazing set in an outdoor arena and a special setting, people wouldn't be going crazy over it. That's how it generally goes these days. The show is produced on a much larger scale every year than all the rest of the shows and they act like it's an incredible thing, although generally it's decent stuff that gets covered with a gold coating and it fools a lot of people into thinking they saw something amazing.

The opener was incredibly average.

I'm getting really fucking tired of ladder matches. There were a few cool spots and I'm damn glad Punk won, but enough with the Money in the Bank.

Umaga/Batista was a shitfest.

Flair v. HBK was a very good match, but for whatever reason I didn't get into any of the near falls. I still loved the finish, though. I think it would have been better if Shawn didn't take that ridiculous bump on the announce table.

The Triple Threat was alright, but not WrestleMania quality. I did, however, pop big for Orton retaining the belt. That made me happy.

Show/Mayweather was a lot of fun. Nothing special, but in the vein of the Umaga/Lashley match last year in the way that it was just an overbooked spectacle, it was fun and entertaining.

The World Title match started off real slow, but it eventually picked up and was a good match. Although just like the Batista match last year, it was basically a "move, near fall, move, near fall" type of match in order to try to make it seem like the streak was coming to an end. The match lost any semblance of being an actual match about 15 minutes in, and the first 15 minutes was pretty slow-ish. Still not a bad match at all, but they worked too hard to try to make us buy that the streak was ending with all kinds of near falls instead of trying to put together a great match.

What we didnt see last night-
What You Didn't See On PPV At WrestleMania XXIV
03/31/2008 by Ryan Clark

The following is compiled from various reader reports that were sent in

- The Money in the Bank participants rehearsed their match in their street clothes in the ring about an hour before the doors opened up. While they were rehearsing, John Legend rehearsed his performance.

- Despite the incredible scene was saw on television, the Citrus Bowl is a dump. Most of the seats are uncomfortable and the entire upper section was backless bleachers. WWE was selling $10 "bleacher pillows". The men's bathrooms were disgusting and had "troughs" - not the best for privacy.

- 2 fights broke out during the Mayweather vs. Big Show match. Cops used a tazer on one of the guys involved.

- The dollar bills that fell into the audience during Mayweather's entrance were not real and had Mayweather's face on them.

- Despite the fact that it was sunny for most of the afternoon, the sky became completely overcast and started raining as soon as the show began. The showers were light and sporadic throughout the night, but never much of a problem.

- The power outage during the women's match really affected the live fans' enjoyment of the WWE title triple threat match that followed. After the lights went, the giant screens over the ring soon followed, making it hard for many fans to follow the action in the ring.

- The streets surrounding the Citrus Bowl were filled with residents selling parking spaces for $20-$25 in their backyards, behind churches, in the parking lots of private businesses, and everywhere else.

- Despite some speculation, TNA never flew a plane over the Citrus Bowl, although there were no shortage of annoying aircraft hovering above. One advertised a strip club and beared the suitable message, "Wooo!"

- Rev Theory, the band that performed the WrestleMania theme this year, played a concert at the Fan Axxess across the street from the stadium a few hours before the show.

- TNA set up a small area across the street from Citrus Bowl before the show where fans could take pictures with the X-Division Title belt. There were also TNA flyers littered around the stadium.

- WWE started letting fans into the stadium 2 hours before the show started. This was a good move because in the past, fans have missed the opening of the show waiting in line to get in.

The Glamazon~True Uber Diva sent in the following... After the Undertaker v.Edge Match.. They lit up the fireworks like they always do and when the fireworks were heading from the top of the Citrus Bowl to the WM Set they malfunctioned and landed on the fans...i was right next to one of the guys who got hit and he caught fire!! For those of you who went you might of seen it and people will probably be calling their lawyers!! It was really scary! Tonight's edition of the Live Audio Wrestling radio show was also talking about this incident.

Here's another report on the situation, courtesy of ProWrestling.NET. They are also claiming that some sort of fireworks accident occurred at the end of the show. EMTs were reportedly called to the scene. One witness account is saying that a fireworks line broke and the spinning fireworks landed on some fans in the upper deck.

Word has it that Steve Austin and Kevin Nash sat in the McMahon family luxury box at WrestleMania 24, reports ProWrestling.NET. Nash has been hanging out with his friends from WWE all weekend during their stay in Orlando. Nash's friendship with WWE head honcho Vince McMahon, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels landed him a spot on their guest list.

Ric Flair Refused To Have Match Be Main Event Of WrestleMania
03/31/2008 by Ryan Clark

Source: prowrestling.net

Many wrestling fans were hopeful that Ric Flair's match against Shawn Michaels would be the final match to close out last night's WrestleMania XXIV. It turns out that Flair was offered the main event spot but turned it down.

There was a pitch made by a creative team member to have the final shot of WrestleMania be a spotlight on Flair's boots and robe. However, Flair strongly disagreed with those sentiments when the idea was brought up to him during a press conference held prior to the WWE Hall of Fame convention.

Flair told reporters that nothing is more important than the title belts and insisted that his match with Michaels did not belong in the main event position.

WM was terrible. Everything was done out of order. Matches were short because of all the bullshit filler. The WWE title match was great, until it ended out of nowhere. Couldn't have been more anti-climatic. I didn't even realize he got the three count in watching it on Paltalk. How could you put the Mayweather abortion after the WWE title?
I know most people liked the Flair retiring match, but the fuck should have been managing for the past 15 years. I knowwwwww what he has contributed can't be compared to but commmmmmme on.

A day later I have no regrets about watching it through Sopcast. Even though I missed the ending of Flair/Micheals amd half the Triple Threat match(Triple H's crossface was pretty cool), it was not worth the $55. The crowd after the Flair match was still into it it seemed. There were the couple of Thank You Fair chants immediatly following the match. The Bunny Match I have no idea as I was not in my seat, same as the Show/Mayweather abortion. The crowd was indeed very hot during the Edge Taker match to end the show. I don't know how it came off on TV, but the pop when Taker won was huge, might have been the pop of the night truthfully.

i'm not going to rehash everything but overall i thought it was decent.but...

mayweather/bigshow + snoop and divas matches = waste of time. i would've rather seen the battle royal

umaga/batista = predictable and boring, though i do belieive that was the first time i've heard the yay/boo thing with jamal getting the yays

flair/hbk i thought was MOTN.

MITB was ok, but seemed short. everyone took their fair share of bumps as well as botches but it looked as if jericho might of tweaked that right knee at the end

taker winning, no surprise

orton winning, BIG surprise. but, as everyone at the bar agreed, anyone but cena = more gooder

kane squash was terrific

belfast brawl had some comedic moment. finlay diving out into the trashcan lid and jbl throwing the can at horny. (I NEED SOME .gif's OF THESE PLEASE!)

overall i think the bar actually made me enjoy it. there were more peolpe there than for the superbowl this year. at one point my friend said, "dude, look! there are actually GIRLS here?!?! AND they have teeth!" unlike the usual sausagefest and the occasional fat black and/or mexican girl and the bartender that looks like bob kelly with blonde locks. either way the female populus last night averaged to < 3. welcome to mississippi.

anyway, nice pics mark and:

ROADTRIP!
we're making the brief 6 hour drive to houston next year for WM25.

Just watched Taker/Edge over on YouTube. Saw like 20 minutes and even though I didn't see the ending, thought it was a good match. The only thing that ruined it, was Cole and Coach calling it. I can see why MITB may have been short. Ladder matches if they go on too long, seem to get boring until you get to the end.

Quick hypothetical here....lets say someone rented a PPV and was able to DVR it...hypothetically would there be a way for said person to burn this recording onto a DVD? hypothetically speaking of course

The Flair/HBK match was great, but I am still pissed off at the finish. The class move would be for the company to have him go out with his hand raised. C.mon. it's Ric Fucking Flair! He has been a company man the whole time he was there and always did what was asked in order to put people over ETC. He deserved to win and announce a retirement tonight on his own terms.

What really pisses me off is they were willing to make Michaels count the lights for Hogan in order to get him to appear. I really irks me. They better give him a huge send off tonight. HOF wasn't enough, especially with that jerk off crowd.

I thought the same thing too but when i think about it, from what I know of Flair as a performer, i don't think he would have wanted to go out that way. Flair was always the type of guy who 'got it' he realized that his job was to put on a good show...win and losses don't mean a thing telling the story is what matters. Flair is old school and old school law says you go out on a loss, normally to pass the torch to the next generation, obviously HBK is no spring chicken but Flair went out on his own terms, putting someone over, and having a damn fine match doing it. I give props to both for the class shown in that ring.

I get what you are saying but as commish said that what Flair wanted. Also if Flair won at Wrestlmania it wouldnt be that great of a moment it would just mean that he would not retire. So i think that it was better for him to lose because you had all that emotion in the arena that you wouldn't have had if he won. to some extent. Also HBK and Flair wanted to put on a show and electrify the crowd, and thats exactly what they did. Also they will do something on Raw for him tonight anyways.

Ric Flair's WWE Future Revealed - Surprising Him On RAW
03/31/2008 by Ryan Clark

This afternoon Ric Flair was a guest on Mark Packer's syndicated radio show "Primetime With The Packman". Flair got very emotional during the interview and shed some light on his future in pro wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Flair said that he will not be going into announcing, but will be working with WWE in a "public relations" capacity moving forward. The Nature Boy has several years left on his WWE contract.

Flair also added, "They're doing something big for me on Raw tonight but no one will tell me what it is.

I've heard they are keeping it a secret from Flair all day today.

Raw Preview-
Now that Orton has proven his dominance against not one, but two of Raw’s most powerful and skilled Superstars, who could possibly step forth to oppose him? And how will Triple H and Cena react after having been foiled in their attempts to recapture the WWE Championship? We'll find out as Raw rolls across town to Orlando's Amway Arena.

Unfortunately, Orton’s win wasn’t the only disappointment for WWE fans last night. After a legendary 36-year career, the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair was defeated by Shawn Michaels, and given a standing ovation by the 74,365 at the Citrus Bowl.

How will The Showstopper deal with the emotions involved in ending the career of his friend and 16-time World Champion? Will he be present as Flair returns to Raw tonight for his farewell address to our fans worldwide?

Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho was two rungs away from claiming the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania before slipping, and CM Punk outraced him to the case to win the match. Y2J faces the new “Mr. Money in the Bank” tonight on Raw in a non-title match, looking to even the score with the Straightedge Superstar.

And after Maria was on the losing end of the BunnyMania Lumberjack Match at WrestleMania, the latest Playboy cover girl will look to put an end to the meddling of her former beau, Santino Marella, by facing him in the ring tonight.

To find out the answers to these questions and more, tune into Monday Night Raw at 9/8 CT on USA Network.

Quoted for mother fucking truth. The crowd was hot before, during(but in a respectful, quiet, way. Other than the little fucking brat next to me), and after the match. Even where I was sitting it was electric during that match. I had goosebumps through out most of it.

Fucking A, Jericho vs Punk match. I think they might go in the IC title vs MITB briefcase direction at Backlash. Maybe this will finally make the IC division relevant again. I'm psyched for this feud, maybe this will make Raw more exciting than Smackdown, as so many of you claim.

Flair also added, "They're doing something big for me on Raw tonight but no one will tell me what it is.

Glad the WWE is doing something for Naitch. Hopefully, they do something along the lines of what they did at MSG, a few years back. Oh and Mark do us a favor take a picture of you bawling this time..

I know most of you said that you had goosebumps after watching that Flair match, but I had goosebumps watching the Taker entrance, and his celebration, at the end. There is just something eerie about Taker. I think I cheered the most when he won the Title at th end. Yes, even more than when Punk won.

What I want to know from Mark is: What was it like during the Deadman's entrance, and his celebration later? (with the exception of the fans who burned, the video is hilarious BTW). No, this isn't just to annoy Steam, although that would be a great reason by itself.

The atmosphere during Taker's entrance was amazing. The druids started coming out during the video package, the spotlight guy right behind us told us to put our hand out toward the stage before the fires hit. SO I had one hand out in front of me, and the other hand holding the camera aimed at the stage. When the fire first hit, there was a collective gasp from the crowd. His music, the Greggorian like chanting started, the crowd went wild. It was yet another goose bump moment.

Being in section 308, I was a few sections away from where the fireworks thing happened. I had looked over in that direction, and I thought I saw something happening that didn't look right, but I couldn't 100% be sure. The crowd was definatly hot, pun not intended, during the victory celebration. I did see some people leaving during the match, which kinda pissed me off. All in all, it was a decent crowd for a WWE show lately.

BTW thanks Mark.... and you were right after Taker won, the crowd had the largest pop. Even though Coach took something away from it, the moment is still amazing.

Wrestlezone
Tonight's Raw is being touted as a must-see show tonight, mainly due to Ric Flair. Reports right now are stating the company will be holding a Ric Flair retirement ceremony and bringing back names from his past to take part (including those on the roster, working backstage and others who haven't been seen on TV for a long time).
If possible, I just got more excited. Also there is some talk about banning pyro tonight. I hope the WWE does some extra pyro tonight, instead of buckling under pressure. That is one thing Vince, he doesn't usually buckle.

I love them having to put that big graphic on the pic. What a bunch of shills.

Contrary to popular wackbag belief, I do not want to suck Cena's cock. I just happen to defend him since I don't find him as appalling as most. At least he's not Randy Orton.

I do plan on wearing the dog tags to the animation festival, so that's how you can spot me if you go.

Lance Storms thoughts on last night-
WrestleMania Recap

March 31, 2008

WrestleMania XXIV is in the history books so it’s time to take a look back at my early predictions and see how well I did. Over the past two WrestleManias I’ve managed a 63% accuracy rate, but this year my batting average took a HUGE nosedive. My percentage dropped so much that if it wasn’t for the fact that the show was so great I might have been a little upset. So let’s jump in and take a look at the matches and the fact that I might actually have done better just flipping a coin.

The show opened with Finlay and JBL, which was a way better match than I expected. This was a real solid match (both literally and figuratively) and the crowd seemed pleased with the return of Hornswaggle. I was a little surprised his return wasn’t saved for a run in and false finish in the match, but either way this match delivered more than I expected. I predicted JBL to win and he did so at least I was off to a good start. (1-0)

Money in the Bank was next and for me this may have been the best one yet. Granted I missed last year’s so I could be wrong. This match was freakin awesome, with amazing stunts, awesome drama, and a great finish. I usually cant’ enjoy these matches, because I’m too worried the guys will get hurt, but with this one I was so completely into it, I loved it. My pick was Jericho with a slight thought in the back of my head that MVP could take it. Not only was my prediction wrong, but MVP didn’t win either. The Matt Hardy run-in was a great little bonus, and far more fun that just adding him to the match originally. (1-1)

Batista vs. Umaga wasn’t a great match but to be honest I didn’t expect it to be. Both guys worked hard enough and I really have no complaints, for a fairly cold match with no angle they delivered what they could. Was it just me or was the crowd more behind Umaga than Big Dave? I predicted a Batista win so things swing back in my favour; I’m now (2-1)

The ECW title match for me was a tough one. I originally picked Chavo to loss to Kahli, but when they bumped the Battle Royal off the show I decided to hold off predicting this match until I knew the opponent. Even knowing it was Kane I was on the fence. I was leaning towards Kane but figuring they were likely switching the other World Titles; so they would leave this one on Chavo. I made a lame fence sitting prediction of Chavo “retaining” the title somehow, hoping to hedge my bets by not even picking a definite winner. Even with that I lost, because Kane beat Chavo in maybe 5 seconds. I wasn’t even disappointed with the short match. I don’t see Chavo and Kane having great chemistry so the quick choke slam was likely going to be more fun than a long match anyway. Kane is the new ECW Champ and even trying to hedge my bets I’m back to 500 (2-2)

This next match was my favourite of the night. Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels. I picked Flair in this one and even had the finish picked out in my mind. I pictured Shawn going for the Super Kick, Flair catching the foot, going for the Figure 4, Shawn Small Packaging Flair, 1...2… and Flair rolling the Small Package over 1...2…3. I thought a loss would be a downer for the crowd and Flair could win and still retire. I wasn’t sure Flair would agree to win the match but I was hoping. In hindsight I see the wisdom in what they did and have to agree my finish would have been completely wrong. The crowd was there to see Flair’s last match and they were expecting and okay with the loss. Had Flair won it would have left the crowd in doubt of whether they saw his last match or not and they wouldn’t have been able to conclusively celebrate the end of the greatest career of all time. Awesome drama, I loved it. Unfortunately I’m now down to (2-3)

Boy I felt bad for the girls having to follow that match. I guess someone had to be up next, and this was the right choice. This wasn’t much of a match but I doubt anyone expected it too be and even if it was, following Ric Flair’s retirement and having a black out half way threw killed any chance of anyone caring. I expected the baby faces to win, figuring the finish didn’t matter so why not leave people happy. Shows what I know Beth with the win, and I’m starting my downward spiral. (2-4)

I was really happy to see the WWE Title match on next. The World Title has played second fiddle so many times I was glad it got the top spot tonight. The three-way match was solid enough but I was still riding my Ric Flair high and not into this match much. I’m not a fan of three ways to begin with which didn’t help. I picked HHH to win the title with a small voice in the back of my mind saying Orton could retain. I didn’t listen to that little voice, which is a shame as that could have kept me above 500. Orton pins Cena and I’m now (2-5)

Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show was a pleasant surprise for me. I didn’t think there was a hope in hell of these two guys pulling off a good match. I figured the size difference was too great and I didn’t think Floyd would be willing or able to do too much. I was wrong. I loved this match. I thought it told a great story and Floyd did way more than I expected. I’m hearing a lot of people complain about the finish, but realistically no big celebrity from another sport is going to come in for a show like this and lose. I knew Floyd would be going over and the finish protected Show enough and Floyd took enough of a beating, I was more than fine with it and enjoyed it very much. Floyd was also my pick so my percentage is crawling out of the gutter. (3-5)

Main Event time and like I said I’m glad SD finally got the slot. I think Taker deserves it and I was thrilled that my buddy Edge got to be the legitimate Main Event World Title match at WrestleMania. This was a damn fine match with only a slight lull in the middle, before building to an awesome finish. Oddly enough the only “boring” part of the match came when Edge was using my finisher, Go Figure!!!! Even with as much as I hate the Gogoplata choke, it worked here and made a logical finish to a great match. I picked Taker to keep the Streak alive and he did not disappoint. I finished up (4-5) just below 500.

All in all WrestleMania XXIV was a great show that I predicted horribly. My accuracy rate dropped from 63% in past years all the way down to 44% this year, but you know, what I’d rather be happy than right any day, and I was happy with this show. Every match was as good or better than I expected and I got to see Ric Flair’s last match live; that in itself was worth $55.
