I posted this on Myspace too, I'm really looking for any help that can be offered... so if this is a re-read for you, sorry, just trying to get the word out to any outlet available...

Saturday night Eddie (my fiance) and I went to a party that was for a friend of mine to raise money for the Breast Cancer walk... the party was a great time, had an excellent turn-out and I really feel like it helped my friend's worthy cause....

Unfortunately, someone who came to support such a worthy cause was, despite their support, a piece of shit... Eddie's CAMERA was STOLEN... (and also my black sweatshirt... I'm thinking they used the sweatshirt to cover the camera as the thief was walking out with it???) Anyway, this is hitting us pretty hard for a few reasons... one, is that I bought him that camera for Christmas and it was the most expensive gift I have ever given him... I worked my ass off to get him that camera because he had wanted it for a long time... it breaks my heart (and my bank account) to know that I worked so hard for it and now some douchebag just got a free camera... It is NOT like Eddie (having a daughter/child support) or I (teaching special ed is one of the shittiest paying careers in this part of the country) have the money to just go buy this camera, its something that was deliberated for a long time and I seriously worked a SHIT load of overtime just to pay for it... it was a really HUGE purchase :(.... on top of all of that, it wasnt JUST a camera that was taken... WITH the camera was a flash, a great lens and a 2 Gig memory card... and its ALL gone.

The reason why I am even posting this here is because ANY help would be greatly appreciated in trying to find the camera... if ANY of you can keep their eyes open for a Canon Digital Rebel XT camera for sale (ebay, Craigslist, pawn shops if you live in this area) along with a Sunpak flash and a Canon EF-S 18-55 lens please pass any info along to us so we can check to see if it is Eddie's... (The items could be listed together or seperate, as everything was detatchable... and won't have the box, obviously) I am fully aware that this is a MAJOR long shot, but I can't sit back and do nothing, even though theres really nothing else that really CAN be done. We have filed a police report and have ALL of the serial numbers for everything, plus the camera is registered under Eddie's name on the Canon website.

We really just want the camera back... as much as I want justice for what happened, if we could just get it back, it would be a major relief... even though its just a camera it had more value to us than just monitary, it was something we really put a lot of thought into and, being that photography is such a passion of Eddie's, it was something he planned to use for a VERY long time...

So like I said, if any of you who like to shop on ebay or craiglist or any other sites you know of where people can sell electronics, it would be very helpful if you could search in this area for me (North Andover, MA)... OR if you guys have any advice for me on more places to look/things to do that could help, I would really appreciate it... (for the record, like I said, we filed a police report with all the serial numbers, and I called a bunch of pawn places in the area today)

ANY help is appreciated, so thanks in advance. :(

Pictures of the items (from online) to help with the search:

the camera looks like this:

the flash looks like (or is similar to) this:

and the lens looks like this:

Meh, after 30 years together it's not the end of the world but it would
have been nice to have some pics of that day.

Still it sucks to have a camera stolen. They can be replaced but the pics
on them can't. Hope you get your's back intact.

In this town, you kind of have to blame the jews...

Although, the sketchiest kids to me at the party were these 2 kids with shapen eyebrows and like, Hollister/some other trendy gay shit on... and one of them HAPPENED to be Puerto Rican (which I didnt even realize until after)... my friend, the host, got kinda pissy that the fingers kept pointing towards them, saying they wouldnt do that and it was racist... but i felt his white friend to be more of the shady fuck... :icon_mad:

Luckily, there werent many pics on them... unfortunately, though, Eddie had been really studying for months on how to better his photography and had some GREAT ones of birds... other than that though, it was just some pics from the night of that party... and as fun as it was up until the point we realized it was stolen, its not necessarily a night Id like to reminisce...

Do you still have the warranty registration cards with the serial numbers on them? if you do, take them to the police and file a report that your property has been stolen. The police will ask for the serial numbers because that is really the only way to discriminate your specific property (camera, flash, etc) from anyone elses.

PS. Do the folks who had the party have homeowners/renters insurance? if they do see if you can file a theft of property claim against it. Also check ebay for the stuff and search "nearest" first. So many idiots steal shit & put it right on ebay w/a Buy It Now for ridiculously cheap off of retail for three day auctions.

Similar story BB, a year and a half ago at my wedding, my camera with all the pics of the rehearsal dinner, my wife's before the wedding day pics and the ones we took at the wedding was stolen off of our table. This was at the Grand Floridian in Disney, a place you think your safe. Sorry about your wedding pics, that really sucks.
Cara, if you paid with a CC, you can call them and tell them it was stolen, it wouldn't hurt to try. Other than that, there's not much you can do, it must be devastating for you I know what it's like to be robbed, it's the worst feeling.
I'll keep my eyes open for u.

You can never trust a couple of waxed-eyebrow, Hollister/Abercrombie douches. Not only will they steal your camera, but they usually steal all of the vegetables out of your refrigerator.

If your lucky, they wont end-up in your mailbox, covered in shit and KY....:action-sm

Goodluck with the camera....I hope you bust the fucks.

yeah we gave the police all of the serial numbers and, supposedly, they are going to be sending out the info to all the local pawn shops... in the meantime, we've been looking on ebay and craigslist... and as far as their homeowners insurance, she didnt think she had theft... but supposedly shes gonna look into that... i hope she does, why would anyone get insurance without theft?!?!

thats another thing i thought of today... I bought it with a Best Buy card so I dont know, but I figure its worth a shot to call them tomorrow and see if anything can be done... doubtful, but better than sitting back and doing nothing...

That blows...sorry to hear.

How big was this party and how were the people invited? Is there a contact list of all people present?

It is weird that someone that would attend a "charity event" would also steal from other people there. If you had a contact list, I would suggest sending out a letter similar to what you posted here. Something that might weigh on their conscience and induce guilt and fear (police were called, you just want the camera back and won't press charges etc).

Also, you said it was registered with Canon, contact them and let them know it was stolen. If they get hits on that serial number maybe they can contact you? Long shot, but can't hurt. I don't remember the details, but something similar was going on with stolen IPODS not too long ago.

I hate hearing stories like this, I totally understand "sentimental value". If I were wealthy, I'd write you a check right now.

Good luck (sis)

Human beings are the most worthless creatures on the face of the Earth.

This is why... like the ol' saying goes... "...we can't have nice things."

This is why I gave up on Land Rovers and now drive a crappy minivan. This is why I wear a Timex and leave the Tag Heuer at home. This is why I have a crappy 'throw away' Pentax camera. This is why my wife only owns CZ diamond jewelry. This is why I never have cash on me and only carry a single debit card. This is why I keep a shotgun loaded with 00 buck in my home.

People. Fucking. Suck.

you really should lean on all the motherfuckers who were at that party...i'm sure more then a few people know something. even if its a friend of a friend of a friend...put enough pressure on the people you did know there and have them do the same down the line...even offer up a reward to get people talking...

I have a similar camera (Canon 40D) so I know how expensive this is...but along with the fact that you where at a party to raise money for a Breast Cancer walk pisses me off even more.

I feel your pain and will be IM'ing you if I come across any of the different avenues that someone would use to try and sell either item.

That totally sucks, I feel your pain, I am semi-pro photographer, And the no good ass who took it has no idea what he took. (Even though I would have gotten the 530ex flash). Hope you get it back. I bet the doucebag is using on full auto as well...

Thanks for all your advice and comments everyone... distortion, great idea to contact Canon about the registration... Eddie will be doing that ASAP... dodisman, Ive considered offering a reward as well, I just have to get the person who hosted the party to really start talking to people who were there, and when I call her tomorrow to make sure shes doing that, I will let her know that I am thinking of offering a reward...

the thing that sucks is that I only knew the host, and she didnt know everyone there... but she knew a hell of a lot more people than I did, so she needs to start spreading the word more... I dont feel like she has, because I havent even talked to her since Sunday, but who knows ... this is all just so frustrating........ :arrrh:

I found a camera while working a few months ago,not really expensive, but nice. I was thinking of keeping it but it had over a hundred pictures of a United Way event, and turned out to belong to them (I returned it to their office, hoping they would know who's it was). I couldn't keep it with all those pic's on it.
Nothing worse than a thief. To just steal somebody's shit you KNOW they worked for is beyond me. Assholes.

what sucks too, is people probably dont think we worked for it... we present ourselves well, meaning, we dont come accross like we struggle... and that night we donated a LOT of money because it was for a good cause.... but what they dont know is we had to budget for that, and I worked my ASS off for that camera... like i said, its not like I can be like "oh lets buy an $800 camera" on a whim... it was planned, we found the best deal and it was budgeted for... people who are heartless pricks don't get shit like that.... ugh :(

I know it's little consolitation now, but if you've got decent credit, get one of those Platinum MasterCards or an Amex. They've got purchase protection for everything from theft to lost to simple breakage. They typically only cover 3-6 months, but it's better than nothing.

A few years ago I had a brand new Sony Clie PDA, put it in my back pocket, got in the car and smashed it right against the seat belt buckle. Called them up, filled out the paperwork and they refunded me the money I paid (including shipping). When I went out to buy a new one, the price had dropped $40.

Also, I've got LoJack for Laptops installed on my laptop computers and one of my PC's in the house. If it's ever stolen, the next time the perps go online, LoJack reports the IP address to the cops who are supposedly pretty good with going after these things because they often find other goodies like drugs, etc. when they bust in on them with a warrant.

I like having it on my home pc because if I'm ever burglarized, I'm sure that'll be one of the things they grab since it's hooked up to my entertainment center and it gives me a little hope.

My brother got cleaned out a couple of years ago and they took EVERYTHING. Even his kid's clothes and toys. They had broken into the house, opened the garage door, backed a truck in there and had at it.
