Any painters that can help me out w/this I appreciate it.

I've got about 12 ft of wrought iron fecing with a small gate that I need to strip and repaint. It's probably got about 5 coats of black paint on it now from the previous owners of my house (old people, never stripped it, just painted over it, again and again and again!) it's starting to crack and look ratty.

Question is what can I use (solvent?) to easily strip the paint off of this wrought iron fence that I can apply, let work, then take a wire brush to remove the old paint from the wrought iron and make the process much easier than just brushing the friggin thing like a mad man?

i had a table and chair set in the same condition. 1st i put a wire brush wheel on my grinder and spent some time in deep thought while removing the loose shit then i got 1 of those gel strippers that ya brush on, well lemme tell ya that shit melted right off. sorry im not sure which i used but it was a small pink bottle im sure you can find it somewhere. useless post over.

That's what I'm thinking of, some kind of gel type shit I can paint on and let it strip the old paint off then just easily wire brush the shit off. The fence has like 5 coats of friggin paint on it at least.

Dude, I have been there and done that. You can use the gel paint stripper, but it might take several times. Getting years of paint out of every nook gets to be a pain. You can also use a power washer.

If you have the means, sandblasting is the fucking shit and will take every last bit of paint off that thing. No chemicals, just fun.

You can also use a grinder with some abrasive attachement like this (not meatspin)

You can go to Home Depot and buy wire brush attachments for your drill. It beats the fudge out of scrubbing by hand.

How tall is the fence?

Zip strip (gel stuff) first.. probably twice or three times then hit it with the wire wheel after the last application of stripper.

Use a rag primarily with the stripper, then an abrasive sponge. WEAR STRONG GLOVES WITH THE STRIPPER. That shit stiiings.. can't be good for ya.

If you do use the wire brush or wire wheel after the stripper, WEAR A FULL FACE SHIELD!!!! Use you head when using the strippers and do what the can says for safety procedures. Do not get that stuff in your eyes.

You're right, that thing is not so great...but any abrasive wheel or wire brush attachment to your drill should get most of the crap off...chemicals as a last resort. Just head to the Home Depot and browse what they have.
