I have searched all over teh interwebs, and so many sites claim to be the best. A lot of sites are listed on "consumer best-of" sites, which seem to just be another site created by a larger company who owns multiple background check sites. I'd like to know if any of you have used one and to what result?

I'm applying for a job, and I'd like to perform my own check to see what's what before I spend the money on the application fees. It's cheaper for me to check my self than let the company check me, and it'll take less time. And, go.....

PS - thanks in advance for the help AND the jokes. :action-sm

Traffic related felony? Did you kill somebody? Because that would be cool.

3rd degree felony "eluding". i blew by a cop at 80mph then upon realizing i passed said cop at a high rate of speed (who never initiated a stop, but was tiny blinking lights 1/2 mile back), i cut down a side street into my neighborhood in hopes of getting my car home and in the garage before i was caught because i hadn't had a ticket in almost 2 years at the time. 1st officer radioed ahead to my area, and i was pulled by about 4 different officers 5 blocks from my house, and i got a 3rd degree felony. It's fucked me bad for 7 years, but it's about to be expunged, so I hope that helps me on the employment side of things, however, it's all still mental.

No, that was just dumb. Just pull over and say "Yes , sir" and "No, sir" alot.
I got pulled over doing 80 on route 73 in Jersey and got out of the ticket
by being nice as hell and very apologetic. Doesn't work every time but it
seems to work more times than not.

I was just being nice :action-sm

I've never gotten out of a speeding ticket by being polite (only 3 times), but I did get out of an illegal passing ticket by doing that. Coincidentally, that was the only time I've ever been pulled over by a female cop.

I was charged with a 2nd degree eluding which was extreme bullshit, and i was also charged with a DUI which I PASSED not once but TWICE. My lawyer brought it down to a 3rd degree and law states or stated at that time that a 2nd degree charge of eluding an officer could not be plead down to a misdemeanor, but only a 3rd degree felony.

That's unfortunate

Thank you. EXACTLY.

I know exactly how to act when being pulled over, and I got out of a 65 in a 50 with an "obstruction of view" for my air freshener because I followed EXACT procedure and even pulled over before the officer attempted the stop since I knew I was had. I had my truck on a side street with the motor off, interior light on, seat belt on, and hands on the wheel before the officer even initiated the stop. I'm no dummy, and even though I know 2 officers in the next town and the ex-cheif, I pulled no names or cards. NO bullshit I knew I was had, and the officer respected the fact that I did everything by the book, so he cut me a break.

EDIT - I found out through that stop that I now have ZERO points on my license which is kinda sweet. :)

No. :action-sm

I did find a website in PA that shows dockets of court cases, though. I had no idea how many people in my family committed felonies.

I also found out a holier-than-thou coworker with a DUI last year. heh

I used this service a few years ago Intelius. (http://www.intelius.com/search-name.php?searchform=name&)

Found out that out of all the people who share my name all have the same problem with speeding. There was also one who was black. Got a nice chuckle from that one.

Yep. On my Ninja, I was doing 100 in a 55 and all I did was be real nice-like and the guy gave me a broken light ticket and a stern warning.

Background checks go beyond criminal history. Many times, a civil litigation history is done. They will go to the courthouse and check your divorce papers, lawsuits you have ever been a part of, real property tax records, credit history and lots of other shit.

So criminal is just part of it. You can use this as an example

It's not in lieu of them doing it. I want to do it myself first because it will save me time and money if I know it's still on my record.

Totally agree with you. Was doing about 100 once when I noticed some dim lights in the woods up ahead. I slammed on the brakes and skidded by him. I realized I was done and just pulled over and waited for him to catch up to me. when he got out of the car, the first thing he said was that he liked the fact that he didn't have to chase me and that I actually waited for him. I told him I was sorry and that I wasn't paying attention to my speed. He just looked at me and said that I skidded by him at 86 mph. I thought I was dead. He was real decent though, and wrote me up for 75 and told me to slow down. There were many yes and no sirs in that conversation.

Yeah Intelius is the one I used when I decided to see what was hanging over my head. It's pretty good, they even had a list of people I've lived with. It's a good all around site.

I wondered the same thing myself. Sounds like a scam.

I like how you write this like it wasn't your fault or something.

80 mph. That doesn't leave much reaction time, in essence I'm saying you could have potentially killed someone.

So you pretty much deserve whatever happens as a result

I never shifted blame, dumbass. I simply feel a 2nd degree eluding was a bit much, not to mention that I was given a DUI before given a breathalyzer which I passed not once, but twice, so it was thrown out in court. Guess what else - I wasn't even issued a speeding ticket. Why? Because the officer never even clocked my speed. Yeah, I made a mistake. I was young and stupid, but what happened wasn't THAT big of a deal. Now go shit in your hat.

The officer never clocked your speed, huh? Well gee, that makes a lot of sense, you know, considering the reason the officer noticed you in the first place was because you were speeding. That's an inconvenient hole in the story, isn't it?

And you recognized your mistake, good, I hope this incident DOESN'T cost you getting a job your applying for.

What I was saying was that you deserved the punishment you got, not that you still deserve to be punished

Also, I own no hats
