Happy Passover!

Holiday of the Spring where Jewish peoples remember the exodus from Egypt by fasting and eating unleavened bread and sour vegetables as those people who escaped slavery did.

Far be it from me to shit on anyone's tradition  but how can people consider it to be a form of honor and respect towards their ancestors by doing the exact same thing that they supposedly struggled and died to not have to do? Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, happy passover to all the nice jewish people out there (even the ones who aren't so nice)

Christians wear crosses, even though that is the device by which Jesus was killed.

The reason for Passover is about never forgetting. Part of the sedar is teaching the young children about the even that took place. The various foods represent different aspects of the enslavement and exodus.

They didn't eat unleavened bread in Egypt. The bread was unleavened because while they were escaping, the dough, which did not have time to rise, baked in the heat of the desert.

Other foods represent the mortar that the slaves used to build for the Egyptians.

Wine is used to symbolize the blood and the plagues that were brought down on Egypt.

Passover literally refers to the killing of the first male children and how the Jewish houses were marked so that their households would be passed over by the angel of death.

It was during the 40 years that followed the exodus from Egypt that Moses received the ten commandments.

The concept of teaching and remembering past events is something that has permeated Jewish culture. It is a concept that has allowed Judaism to survive even in the face of intense persecution and violence against Jews. It is a tradition that values literacy and learning among all its adherants, not just a select few. For as long as one person remains who has the knowledge, then there is always hope. The fact that we are barely 60 years removed from the Holocaust, only reinforces that need to make sure that all Jews remember and learn, and pass the knowledge along to future generations.

For the Technical Tim's: "Stepped over", "passed over"...what's the difference? It's close enough to the movie dialogue.

There were no jew slaves in Egypt. If there were, they didn't build the pyramids.

The Pyramids were built by citizens of Egypt, against their will yes but it still wasn't quite slavery.

Because they were still working on figuring out a valid currency and taxing system at the time, citizens of Egypt paid their dues to the government with labor. It was this labor tax that was responsible for the construction of the many wondrous structures you find in Egypt, and Jews had little to do with it.

Yay I'm a shit-stirrer.

Matzah still sucks

I guess you've never had it covered in chocolate. MMMMMMM

I think that's the only thing I enjoy about Passover. My step dad doesn't usually make kugel. I did try to make a Kersmearta Matzo, but it didn't come out right. Oh well, there's always next year!
