With all this discussion on the Olympics, I figure I'd ask- do you care?

Ballbuster1

Nope.
Never really did.
Never really will.

Not really. Most of the sports are boring. I wouldn't mind seeing some more divers crack their heads open on the diving platform, though.

Really more a fan of the Winter Olympics, but that's mainly because of the sports. I do like the whole national pride thing too, but again, more so in the winter games.

Except for seeing how the USA is going to do in men's basketball, don't really care. I understand the historical significance of past Olympics. However the days of their importance on the world stage and the whole purity of amateur sports are long gone. That being said, they shouldn't be boycotted, because the only people who get hurt by it, are the athletes.

More the summer ones.. I don't expect to see many world records broken due to the air quality..Although there have been worse ones..Mexico For one, the air pollution was worse plus the altitude and like 3/4 ths of the American Swim team got Montezuma's revenge.
Then there was the summer games I think was WWII..they sent the US athletes over on a military morgue ship infested with rats..and they protested

Used to big time. I guess as I got older, and we won the cold war, I barely give a shit.

Although there have been worse ones

This (http://www.kithfan.org/work/transcripts/one/tragedy.html) was the worst Olympics ever.

(What? I couldn't find the clip so here's the transcript instead.) And just for some humor

I only watch men's figure skating.

Seriously though, I don't think I've ever seen one Olympic event, and I honestly don't give a shit about any of them.

Never miss them. One of the best experiences in my life that I had was going to the Atlanta Games in 96.

I like the Olympics. Although, I don't get into the Summer ones as much as the Winter.

I need ten minutes of ski jumping every four years, and I'm all set.

Too fucking much drama on everything. Do I care if some girl from Krygistan lost her goat to a rabid wolf and devoted her life to winning the ring toss?

Yeah I know. My friends kept insisting it was me. Too much of a coincidence that I got into Atlanta on Friday night just prior to the bomb going off. Plus I looked a little like Richard Jewel (before he died). My friend Kim had been in that area of the park that night & had left about an hour before it went off. She had to leave as she was meeting me to show me around the city.

I think if you've ever watched Olympic coverage anywhere but the US you get a sense of how much of a world event it really is. I'm not bashing anyone, but when you see the NBC, ABC, ESPN highlight reels and selected live events and it's only events that the US is strong in, it loses a little bit of the flavor of the games. For the summer games there are events that we hardly ever see because the US isn't a big player in but they are great events to watch.... 'nuff said, but I do look forward to the games and some of the human interest stories....even if it is only to remind me that I'm best.

The whole Olympic feeling kinda died. Who is the big evil now the chinks even out scrubs could beat them. Kicking the ass of the east Germans or USSR made the games worth watching. Now the team are made out of pro athletes who care. When unknown players beat the shit out of the Soviets and them go on the beat the fins for the gold. while the Soviets had to settle for bronze.

I enjoy watching the sporting aspect of it. As far as the Olympic atmosphere, I guess attending an event would help in that.

And as has been said many times in the thread so far, Winter Olympics > Summer Olympics

Honestly I think they're a waste of time. I couldn't care less about the summer olympics. The winter olympics I do like some of the events but the entire "Olympic" feeling as it was put, does elude me.

I like the Olympics, but I won't go out of my way to watch something. I'll check out what's on, if it's interesting I'll continue watching.

The coverage would be better if they actually showed some of the events. Usually when you tune in they're doing a fluff piece about one athlete or another, then that person usually screws up the event that they trained their life for.

Not one bit. I watched the opening ceremonies a few years back just to check it out. There was some nice performing artsy stuff in there but overall, it was boring as hell. And I'm not a sports/athletic person really so it's not something I would follow.

I like that! :) They make the "regular" olympics seem so much more boring by comparison.
