Well with all of the people on the bag I'm sure there is a good number of folks that like fishing.
I grew up fishing but I have moved more towards fly fishing over the last six or so years. I'd post photos from bass fishing yesterday (caught about eight of them in an hour) but I get uncomfortable about carrying my big camera (and expensive) on the water in a kayak. I need a small little pocket camera for fishing.
Post your picks and your trips that you go on. :action-sm:action-sm

At 6 a.m. on Sunday, the Bay Shore dock was empty under an overcast sky -- until Bill Moser unloaded his rod and bait from his truck and prepared for a day of fishing, just as he has for more than 50 years.
Moser, 64, of Kings Park is an avid recreational fisherman and an even more avid opponent of the new proposal that would force recreational fishermen to register with the federal government and purchase a license before heading out to sea.

I try and make it down to Texas every summer and fish the gulf, usually around Galveston. every once in a while i'll go out on a deep sea boat, but I usually just fish from the shore around san luis pass.
I also do some fly fishing when I get a chance and I keep a fishing pole on the 18 wheeler with me to fish whenever i find a spot.

For years I just had a cheap fly rod I bought from Wal-Mart when I was like 15 but then around 18 I got a very nice fly rod for Christmas from my mom, along with a new fly vest. I now have two of the same vest except one is too large (the one mom bought) but it works for when it's cold outside and I have a jacket on under it.
I used to tie flies but I have to buy all new gear. When I had moved I put my stuff in a storage building for about a year and when I came back to get my gear out I found out that my $300 worth of tying material had been eaten by mites. I picked up a hackle skin and it was rotting and I saw little white mites crawling everywhere and on my hand. It pissed me off. So, I haven't gotten around to buying new stuff.
I need to though. It's a great hobby.

The only time I went deep sea fishing was in San Diego when I was about 12 years old. We didn't catch shit and it was the first time I had got sick on a boat because it was a very windy day with tons of waves. After a couple hours of waves it finally got to me.
It was a very odd feeling. I have been on the water for most of my life and that was the only time I've ever gotten sick.

Nice thread SAM, I was waiting to see if there were other baggers that fish. I do most of my fishing on Lake Michigan for salmon, trout and monster perch. I also fish up in Wisconsin for panfish, walleyes, smallmouth and northerns. But I spend well over 250 hours fishing Lake Michigan, I have a 24ft boat that I slip for the season. Here is a pic of sunrise while my buddy is fighting a fish.

I've always wanted a boat with a cabin that I could do nothing but fish, dive and cruise around in the Carribean. Maybe when I get older I can get something like that. When I get older and retired I think I will study shipwrecks and go around as a hobby diving to look for relics.
I mostly fish out of a kayak since it's small (45lbs) and easy to take for a solo trip. I catch and release 95% of the time though since I don't have a live well and it sucks dragging around a stringer of fish with a kayak. If I'm trout fishing then I eat all of those motherfuckers because they are lovely baked with some parsley and lemon :D

Did you ever get it wet? I'd have to see a photo to try to figure out what is causing the discolorization.
It would be a fucked up image sensor that is a chip that actually gathers the light for the images. Depending on how much you paid for it, it may be worth it to send it into Sony and pay them a few bucks to repair it.
You can always try a new memory card if you have a feeling that it may be a problem. I haven't ever had a memory card go bad on me. It's pretty hard for them to mess up since they are static devices that don't have any moving parts.
I have an old school 35MM that will put streaks of light on my negatives but it's a problem with my shutter sticking and I have to get it fixed.
You problem could also simply be the camera setting that you have put on that will cause chromatic aberrations in certain lighting conditions
I'll take it to a camera place i guess
unfortunately it takes the older style memory stick
not the 1 in my PSP
thanks , Bro
I'll get it fixed or get a new 1

been an avid angler since i was a lil' kid. fresh and saltwater.
so yesterday i went down to burnham park(here in morris county NJ) and wasn't having much luck with the powerbait nuggets or meal worms. i got annoyed and put powerbait on all 3 poles and sat and waited and waited. got all annoyed and reeled the 1st 2 in. as i reached for the 3rd pole i noticed that i had a fish on. i jerked the pole to set the hook and started reeling in. i knew it was a trout because i was using powerbait but i never had one fight like this. this mug put up a hell of a fight. it was jumping out of the water trying to dislodge the hook. i got it in to the wall and realized i didn't have my net right next to me. i yelled to some dude fishing further down from me. he came running with my net for me and then i saw it.....i'm not sure what type of trout it was but it was at least 2 feet long and was almost lavender in color and had a white belly. just as i was bringing the net down to pick up my prize it jumped and got the hook out!!!!! along with my hook were 3 other hooks, 2 swivels and a weight. biggest trout i've ever, ever caught sadly i had it and it got away! i was soooooo pissed.

I took off last week to go fishing. We turned the corner on one little lake and found ice so we headed over to the side where the hot spring comes in and managed to catch some perch, largemouth and bluegill. It will be better in another 2-3 weeks.
We went to a big lake further south and caught perch and crappie and rainbow. The crappie (croppie) are just starting and action was slow on them. I got a rainbow with a jaw tag that let me enter a drawing for $1000, so I'll be rich soon.

The AR Game & Fish don't stock Brownies but they are in the Little Red and White River. They stock everything else but there is a little town full of old people and tweakers called Heber Springs where tons of tourist flood the area in the Summers and fish out the itty bitty piece of shit fish that are stocked each week.
So, if you want any decent fish you have to go miles down stream to another town and below.
I have to be honest, my father never taught me anything about the outdoors. He knows nothing about them still. So, I taught myself while I was a kid and I went fishing with friends. I fell in love with fly fishing after having the film "A River Runs Through it" burned into my head. Then I saved up my money and bought a cheap fly rod and gear in order to get started.

My dad used to take us fishing every summer down in Baja. I once caught a 205lb Marlin. But the funnest trip I ever remember was getting caught in a school of Dorado and just reeling them up one after another. We brought back so much fish that we ended up just giving a lot of them away to the locals and the hotel we were staying at.
I once caught a Hammerhead shark too, I'll see if I can't find that picture. Those things are freaky looking up close. They seem like aliens or living dinosaurs.

Mostly a walleye and smallmouth state.
Although I'm hoping to break the state record this year for orange spotted sunfish. The current record is 0 pounds, .55 ounces. That's just a little more than one of those cheap composite poker chips. Caught a half dozen state record orange spotted sunfish last year but didn't know what they were.

There is a hot spring near here with a fish hatchery on it. We fish in the canal coming from it and catch the escapees. My wife caught a huge tilapia that tasted very good. Later, i noticed Idaho has a record book on tilapia and hers easily would have beat it.
There are koi in that canal that are at least 18", swimming wild.

Here's my son with a couple of Jumbo Lake Michigan perch we caught last weekend. The biggest was 15.5 inches and the rest were 12-14". I tried getting him to hold them without the gloves but this is the only way I could get a pic of him with the fish. Heading out again this weekend for Perch and hopefully some coho salmon.

Fucking Fuck, Fuck!!
Went today with an old buddy to do some fishing and drink some beers all day at an old fishing spot we had found as kids, a stream off the Lackawanna river...we go there and there was a FUCKING HOUSING DEVELOPMENT!!!!..We ended up going to the State Park....too far from home and too many people to really get faced...it kinda sucked.

hey hudson i hear ya man. i used to fish a small spot that had some insane bass fishing in it. the bass would only hit on minnows. spinners and any other types of lures just didn't work there. i went to check the spot just to see how the bass were there and was sadly disappointed to find a fucking development full of mcmansions where this awesome spot once was.

OK, I haven't been fishing in a couple of weeks now, but I was just thinking of a time in High School when I took a friend to my farm.
He was excited as hell to get to fish on a private river (well, it's public water but in 12 years I have seen four people above or below our 1.5mile waterfront) and we paddled upstream to a deep hole below some shoals.
We were fishing for a while and then we drifted a hundred yards downstream to some shoals where a cliff had fallen into the river and created a nice spot for smallmouth bass and rock bass (type of bream).
He didn't bring a pole so he was using an old Shakespear Ugly Sick rod (supposed to bend all around and last forever) while we were out on the river. Well, he got a really heavy strike while reeling in a black and yellow Mepps Aglia rooster.
He was jerked over to the side of the boat and the pole snapped in half right away. He kept reeling in though with the lower half of the rod to pull on. I grabbed the line and pulled the fish in the last few feet and brought it to the surface.
The fish was about a 15-17lbs striped bass and it just dwarfed the fucking lure hanging in its mouth. We both were fucking freaking at the size of this damned fish and I reached down to pull it into the boat. As soon as my thumb touched the inside of its mouth the fish jumped and threw the treble hook of the lure out of its mouth and it disappeared back into the Fourche LaFave river.
We lost a trophy fucking with the flick of a tail.

Yeah, had my kids parked on top of a few smallies this weekend using drop shots. If I tell them not to move the rod, they seem to move it just enough :) got a couple of 1.5 to 2 range.
Did you see the 23 pound lake trout that came out of Kensico last year? Holy Shitfuck!

I got the chinook salmon rules today. We can keep 2 a day, 6 in possession, and catch 40 total for the season. Season is on now but the river is really high and muddy, plus the chinook aren't even here until around July 4 most years. They opened now to get some tourist dollars, no doubt. The guy at the worm store said to use 20-30 lb test with at least 200 yards and a heavier rod than a steelhead needs. I'll dig out my surf casting and deep sea rods and give it a try. Trouble is, I'll have to drive about 20 miles upriver to get to the legal area.
An example of the intended quarry.

It's like a smallmouth, only bigger.
I didn't read the rest of the thread once I read this.

It sounds like I grew up with the opposite of your Dad, Sam. Him and all my uncles were crazy fishermen (One of his buddies at one point held the Lake Fork/Texas champion BLack bass, etc)
Best trip ever was deep sea and our guide got us caught up in a fucking awesome school of red snapper that was being fed on by hammer heads and black tip reef sharks. Between me, my dad, and two uncles we totaled like 30 huge snapper, 5 or 6 black tips, 2 or 3 hammer heads, and just some random other shit like amber jacks and shit.
And yeah, tot he dude who got a bad guide in Cabo, don't let that stop you from finding a good guide in the future. There's great ones all along the Texas Coast, the bad ones don't stay in business long.

I am a member of a trout club so it's no huge feat. They put in a couple hundred like that. For the most part, the smallest they put in is in the 12" range. Damn you people and your trout...
We only have two places you can really catch trout here in Arkansas because our water is too warm (in the South, no shit) except for a couple of lakes that are dammed up.
Since the water is so cold at the bottom of the lakes they can have trout in the rivers downstream from the dams.
So, that means I either have to drive like four hours to Eureka Springs where they have trout stocked by game and fish from Beaver Lake or drive like five/six hours to Heber Springs and fish in the Little Red River off of the lake there.
But tons of tourists flood the Little Red (especially in Summer) because it's just a fucking awesome little clear river. They Game and Fish stock the fish there up stream and the dummies fish out the little ones.
If you want good trout and trophy trout you have to go downstream like 20+ miles away from tourists to places like Pangburn. But you won't ever go there and not catch fish. There are some fucking monsters downstream too.
Especially around the catch and release area outside of Pangburn where you can only use barbless hooks.
:( I wish the water was cold enough here in the Fourche Valley to have trout in the river. All of the bass would eat their eggs though. They wouldn't be able to make it I don't think. I should send Game and Fish an e-mail and ask them if they can expand their stocking effort to bring new jobs to the area.
We just have monster bass and catfish here.
But we have a new pond we made with a 25ft damn in a gorge between bluffs. It blew out last year from ridiculous rain (10+ inches in 24 hours one day) and we had just stocked it with thousands of fish.
So, most of them were lost :( We built the thing back up again (now the damn cost us about $17,000 to make with rebuild) and we have it stocked with bream, catfish(blue) and bass.
I was feeding them yesterday and I saw a nice catfish and bass that were both about a foot long so they must have been the very few fish that were still in the little water left when the dam blew out. It made me happy to see some were still in there because they will be catchable this Fall.
The rest are little fish we put in last September so they didn't grow in the Winter. They should be decent next Spring though.

I sent an e-mail to the state game and fish to see if they think the Fourche La Fave River can sustain trout. I think it should. I don't think it gets above 70 degrees. It's usually pretty cool.
They surely would know what the temp of the river gets in the Summer. Now it's not lovely cold like the Little Red River but it also isn't formed from a fucking lake 200ft deep.
I hope they say it can possibly sustain life. Then I will keep writing state Reps to see if they can get the game and fish to make a hatchery in the area or truck them in. The part of the state I have the farm in is one of the areas lacking jobs because the logging market is down and people are going out of business.
It could be a good way to create jobs in the area from anglers and tourists. Who knows.

Below 70? Is it in the mountains or something?
We hit 70 mark in march in the waters here and will hit the 90's in a month. 70 is a really low number. Its gets well over 70 in Ontario on St. Clair and it usually freezes for ice fishing.
I don't know shit about trout, does it need to stay below 70?
If there are Bass it has to get to at least 65 to spawn. And Bass eat the ever loving shit out of trout.
Only decent trout area I know of in South is Smokey Mountains.

Yeah water has to be cold for trout. They do well in water below 70 degrees and if I remember correctly they die off if it's like 80-85 degrees.
The majority of the areas around here that are stocked with trout are tail waters of big deep lakes so the water is like 45-55 degrees.
It's fucking awesome in the Summer if you go somewhere like Little Red River and it's in the 90's outside and you get to stand in water that's 55 degrees to fish.
The water at my farm in the river may be borderline. It may get up to like 80 degrees in the Summer. So, I'm not sure they would be able to live. And yeah the river is in a mountain. It starts about 40 miles away from my farm and it's a wild river in my area that goes nuts with rain water.
It's just a stone-bottomed mountain river that runs between two mountains in the Ouachitas. It flows between Dutch Creek Mountain and Fourche Mountain in the Fourche La Fave Valley.
Sam_Adams

Bad news from the Game and Fish :(
No, the upper end of the Fourche is not suitable for trout introduction.
Water temps do rise above lethal limits for trout in the Fourche and
trout would compete with native fish species.

We have a trout lake about 30 minutes from Omaha that is stocked by Fish & Game. It's a deep small lake. I think it used to be a sandpit. I fished there when I was a kid. Now I just fish for hogs (Large Mouth Bass) and catfish.

My dad and I went down the Delaware (between Narrowsburg and Lackawaxen) in our canoe earlier. Some smallmouths, a few pan fish, a walleye each, and he landed a 30 inch pickerel. The belly was very big, about 12-14" circumference. I've never seen one over 25" before this. It was huge. Much bigger than those Alaskan pike.
Still waiting on the pics.

I need to go fishing but I really can't say I enjoy it when it's around 100 degrees outside. It kind of takes the fun out of outdoor shit real quick.
Wouldn't matter if you were deep sea fishing on a boat loaded with an ice chest full of beer though...oh the retirement years(hopefully)

I caught a 5lb 21" bass earlier. It was my biggest ever. It will be a while before I can get a pic up, new roll of film.
Here are the pics of my dad's pickerel and my little walleye.

What is it that you caught your fish on? I can't seem to catch shit for bass unless I use worms. Any other bait will end up catching me small fish.

Oh, I forgot. About a month ago I caught a big 5/6 pound bowfin fish that was about 24 or 25 inches long.
I really thought I had a killer bass on my line until I saw an eel-looking fish come to shore. It was a good fighter.
I was trying to be careful abotu taking my lure out and I thought I grabbed a safe part of it's mouth because it looked flat like a bass jaw. Well, it looked flat but they are kind of like sharks.
The motherfucker bit down on my finger and a set of razor teeth popping out of the jaw sliced into my thumb and it hurt like a motherfucker. I was sitting there with blood just pouring out of my finger and I didn't have an extra set of pliers to get the hook out with.
so, I just ran over the motherfucker's head with my ATV and his ass was eaten by wildlife. I put him out in a field and the next morning he was gone.
wish I would have taken photos but I wasn't thinking about it since he gashed my thumb open.
this is what they look like though. Even though there is a flat spot on the backside of their lower jaw...don't put your finger there.

Today's bass was on a J-9 perch Repala, both walleye were on J-9 rainbow trout Repalas (which is all my dad used while pike fishing in Alaska. I mostly used an orange J-9), the pickerel was on a silver #2 Blue Fox Vibrax. I caught another decent bass today on a leech.
My buddy and I have had good luck with 3" Japanese softbaits lately. I don't have the package on me but I think they are called Keitech, live impact, swing impact. I use 1/8 oz jigheads with them. Cabela's has live eye jigs, which work great, but I usually use simple black or pink, depending on viability. They are salted and have great action.
Monday night I caught some smallmouths, on the river from my boat, using the pink/keitch combo but they were rather small.

We don't have bowfin here, or at least I've never seen one. Way to punish it, good story. Sounds like it would offer a good fight.
The bass was the second biggest my buddy had ever seen caught. He was out late Saturday and his buddy caught a 15lb catfish in the big lake.
The strange thing is the lure was in the middle of the pond, about 9' deep, with no cover. While bringing it in he found some reeds to hide in. I had to wade into 4' water to pull it out.

I think they are fairly uncommon. They are similar to the snakehead fish, but are native to the US.
They compete with other predator fish.
I was going to let the dude go but he REALLY bit me and it pissed me off. I catch and release almost every fish I reel in

I started tying flies again after a break of abour 11 years (stopped after parents divorced and i moved) and I definitely need a lot of practice.
I tied a decent Yellow Stimulator but it's not perfect. Then I tried to tie a Royal Coachman but I had too much Peacock Hearl built up around the head of the fly and I couldn't tie correctly after the hackling and then add the wings.
So, the it was slipping and I stopped. I need to untie it and redo the hearl and hackling.

I just tied these two as well. The little dry fly (just made it, don't know if it has a name or any look like it) is sitting on a hoot about as long as the width of my thumb.
I definitely have to get used to working with this tiny shit again. It took me a fucking hour to learn how to tie the knots properly again and they still slip while i;m trying to do it sometimes. I suck.

This one is a streamer. The white deer hair will help it be close to neutrally bouyant in the water so it doesn't sink quickly and drifts in the current waving it's red tail

But they will work. I'm sure there is something similar out there with a fancy name.

Nice flies Sam. Let us know how they work. I tried tying them a few years ago but lost interest (also got too expensive). Took my equipment to our cabin and the mice decided to use all the feathers for nesting material.
My cousin and grandpa both want to take up flyfishing. I'd like to take it up again, have to see how the fall goes.

Yeah you can do them on the cheap if you pick up your supplies at a hobbycraft place like at Hobby Lobby or in the sewing section of Wal-mart.
And for the things you can only get frmo a fly shop, buy the smaller pieces.
Unless you're tying them on the side to make a little extra money then you will never need like a full hackle cape. Just get a partial.
When I was a kid in like the 9th grade I got all the big shit and I never used it all. I didn't even come close to using up a full bird ($70).

Do you use pheasant feathers?
I kill 75-100 of 'em in a season and usually trash most of the feathers/pelt without a second thought. Looks like I could make enough on tailfeathers alone to pay for a seasons worth of 12 gauge shells.
I guess you folks don't fly fish or tie flies...hmmm

Well if you don't care you could just send the feathers to people like us. We don't have pheasants in Arkansas unless they are farm-raised.
They aren't native here or I would go out and shoot them myself as well.

I'm going to take my kayak out to an oxbow lake off of the Mississippi River.
I need to see if I can find a nice bass to put on the wall. If not, then I'll go find the alligators and take some snapshots of them sunbathing if they will let me get close enough.

The Striper are running north of Cape Cod, but they're not hitting the bait very hard.
striper action is about to get hot here in N. California
four of us went 4 hours out the Golden Gate to get some rockfish. Boat ride sucked, action was great, weather was good. We dropped down right on top of them and limited out (10 rockfish, 2 lincod per angler) within 3 hour.
My biggest was this 17 pound lingcod. He's getting grilled for dinner tonighthttp://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii267/sexytimeleslers/IMG00017-20091017-1132-1.jpg

I was thinking about going out for a drive to a city about an hour away to fly fish.
I have been burning up wanting to go fishing. I don't have waders anymore though so I know I'd fucking freeze in the river right now with the temps cooling down.

lol.....a few days ago i went out without my chest high neoprene waders. wasn't fly fishing just had my ultralight trout rod. my favorite rapala got snagged down the river from me and i could see the fucker. i was in shorts and a t-shirt mind you(it was snowing to boot)......i got annoyed and took my shoes and socks off and retrieved my lure only to lose it to a nice rainbow trout that snapped my line when i had it about 8 feet away from me. hence the frustration
