Once you hit about 20 years old you begin to lose the ability to hear higher frequencies.
I heard about this a while back where kids are using the higher frequency ones as ringtones because the teachers in school can't hear them.
See where your hearing ceiling is at:

I was unable to hear anything over 17khz, yet my kid could hear them all.

I was just looking at this last night. 20 kHz is the last one I can hear.

I'm 25 and I can barely hear the one for 30 and below. Should I be concerned?
EDIT: Stupid volume on my computer. I think I can hear to 19 khz. If you want to have fun, click a few of the listen buttons at a time.

I can barely discern the 17 khz tone. Anything higher I'm screwed. And my cat went insane just now. :)

I'm 28 and I can't hear 17khz and higher, which I guess is about right for my age. But my wife, who's the same age, hears up to 18khz.
Kinda creepy how you lose that ability to hear those sounds as time goes by.
My dog went nuts too.
This is all well and good except the speakers in cell phones can't really reproduce tones in this range at any truly audible volume.
I hear pretty good, I'm 38 and I can hear them all to 20 Khz. Then I'm not sure if it's my ears or my speakers that are in doubt. 20Khz is generally recognized as the limit of human hearing range so most speakers don't work so well at this frequency.

I'm 40 and I can't even hear the 12. I think I fucked my ears up in my 20's, one time I couldnt hear anything for four days. I was to stupid to even be worried. I just thought it will come back sooner or later and it did.

Make sure you have your speakers turned up high enough (see Liddy's post)

When I read about this article a while back, I remember that there was a list of phones that supported up 20k speaker playback. Can't find it now, but they were mostly MP3 heavy phones that played quality music through the speakers in addition to the headphones.

I'll be 43 in June and had no problem hearing 16khz - (30 & Younger) but it was a huge drop off after that. It's funny, my ears kind of perk up, like when you think you hear something when scared, at 17khz. I don't know if that's considered hearing it?
I have very good sight/smell/hearing but surprised from all the concerts, loud music and my friends band that I worked with that I could hear that much. Ears plastered to the speakers, has caused a bit of ringing over the years.

I'm 22 and cannot hear 14khz. So I have the hearing of a 49 year old. great.
edit: woops, turning speakers up very loud I can hear 14 & 15, but not 16khz, so my hearing is still 10 years worse than it should be.

14 on the left, 17 on the right side @ 46 years.
Hate those tests, they reaffirm the slow onset of death.

My dad (who's 65) can only hear the top two. I guess it's pretty accurate.

Drop a batch or two in her ears then have her re-take the test. :action-sm
I could hear the 17 but not the 17.4...what a difference .4 makes. I'm 29, and besides getting a shitload of grey hairs over the past few months, this test certainly didn't help me deal with the reality of aging and eventual death. In any case, very cool shit, and I'll definitely run this test the next time my 8-year old son is here and any time my cats are annoying me. They did not like it. :icon_mrgr

Wow, that's so weird that they're people who can't hear all of these.
I have my speakers on like 4 on a 10 scale and I can hear all this shit loud and clear.
I'm 24.

Amazingly, after years involved in music and hundreds of concerts attended, I could hear most of them, except for 17.4 and 18. 19 was fine. More likely a limitation of my computer speakers.
I should try this with different speakers or even headphones.

guys, a lot of it has to do with how the human ear ages, not specifically damaging your ears...As your ear ages the loss of high frequency hearing is normal...based upon the simple fact that you have been using your ear 24/7 for 30+ years...It wears out it's sensitivity to the high frequencies.

I couldn't hear anything above 18. Watching the cat shake his head out of control was really funny though

Like it says, you might not want to click the top ones with the volume up too high... I didn't follow directions :(
