Do any of you guys have or are using the new Nikon D3? The question is the quality of the Af-s lenses still sharp instead of having to buy all new DX lenes which don't work on the non DX bodies. I can read all day about it, but untill you know someone whose running it thru it's paces you don't get the answeres you want.

I would say you're better off with the Af-S Nikkor lenses.

I have a D-80 with the MB-D80 Grip and 3 2.8 lenses and it gives great results. I don't see the need in paying for the D3 features, not to piss on your parade but the investment in the 2.8 faster glass (expensive as shit) is what makes the images that much better.

Better glass > Better body. All the time, every time.

X2 spend the money on glass, the extra features on the body you will never use

I got my answers. Thanks.
Answer is yes,old ED lenses work, much better quality. It's just about 99% compatable. Will you miss that 1%? not enough to make a difference. After an hour of talkinig to the Nikon rep.
He said they have orders from high up to push the new lenses as hard as possible to customers and unless you really push them hard they won't admit it.

My favorite Nikkor lens to this day is the 105mm Micro Nikkor after that it's the 80-200mm 2.8, heavy but great quality especially wide open

If your really into old Nikon gear this guy has a great site on classic Nikon lenses, bodies, etc. I also picked up a Nikon S2 rangefinder last year, I just have a 50mm normal that came w/it but will be looking for a 28mm Nikkor for it soon enough, fuckin Japs drive the price of the classic shit up on ebay though.
