If you bought an HD-DVD player from Circuit City in the past three months, now is your chance to get out. Pretty cool move on their part.

Circuit City Trading In HD DVD for Blu-Ray Players, Says Employee

According to a Circuit City employee in Chicago, the consumer electronics chain is trading in HD DVD players bought into their stores "within 3 months of the announcement," as opposed to their 30-day return policy. According to the internal memo announcing the demise of the format, they will either give customers a Blu-ray player—paying the price difference, if any—or a gift card. The trade-in, however, will not be widely promoted and it will be only made available if the customer asks for it.

Better do it quick, there are rumours on the street that Circuit City may go bankrupt soon if their deal w/Blockbuster falls thru on their failure to aquire financing on a possible buyout.

Beta had a pretty long life. Had a lot of different models that ran for almost a decade before being shut down. HD DVD didn't make it to be 2 years old.

The prices or blue ray dvd's are really high. I will go that route when they start going down a bit.

well now that there's no competition in the HD format, don't look for the prices to come down very fast.
