AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - (Business Wire) THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) and JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAKK) today announced that WWE® Legends of WrestleMania® is currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Joining the distinguished WWE® SmackDown®/SmackDown vs. Raw® franchise, which has shipped more than 37 million units worldwide since 2000, WWE Legends of WrestleMania is scheduled for release in March 2009 to coincide with the annual pinnacle of sports entertainment, WrestleMania® 25, in Houston, Texas.
i'm assuming they will be releasing SD vs RAW 09 around fall of this year, so this may be a nice lil bonus.
hopefully they use the same engine they use for the current games so the actual gameplay doesn't suffer. i assume the roster for this game will be all "legends" and feature some of the okd WM venues and the old blue-gridlike cage match. the legends they add to the current games are kind-of lacking (SCSA and the rock EVERY FUCKING TIME?! 4 mick foleys?!? why not one mick, four alternate outfits? 3 hogans?!)
the "legends of wrestling" (either midway or acclaim, not sure) games that are out now are garbage. they're too cartoony and arcade-like.
here's a list of people i hope to see in this game:
demolition (with crush)
ultimate warrior
LOD
brutus the barber
roddy piper
koko b. ware
bret hart
dino bravo
money inc. (with virgil)
dusty rhodes (polka dots and sapphire)
earthquake
typhoon
vader
terry funk
cactus jack
the bushwackers
razor ramon
diesel
tito santana
rick martel
rick rude
snuka
macho man (or king with liz or sherri)
and unlockable characters won in a casket match:
owen hart
andre the giant
eddie guererro
chris benoit
big bossman
bambam bigelow
(i'm runing out of gas here)
the "gimmes" that are sure to make the cut IMO:
hogan
flair
SCSA
the rock
and probably old school taker and mullet-era HBK
i like the THQ WWE games so if this one's up to par with the gameplay and features of the "vs" games, it may be worth checking out next spring.
alas, no PSP version announced :(
