Mayor Pawlowski Responds To Rash Of Violence In Allentown.
A shooting last night makes four homicides in Allentown in less then two weeks. Tonight we talked with Allentown's mayor Ed Pawlowski about the recent wave of violence. WFMZ's Stephanie Esposito joins us live in the studio with the story, Stephanie? Stephanie Esposito: John and Karin, Mayor Pawlowski talked with me tonight right at the scene of Allentown's most recent homicide.. He says his plan is to drive the violence out of his town. REPORTER: For Mayor Ed Pawlowski Allentown's recent battle with violence is getting personal. :34 This is my neighborhood I live only a few blocks from here. I'm not gonna let this neighborhood or any neighborhood go down within this city. >>REPORTER: He says Allentown is working with all the city's on the 222 corridor, the DEA, and the FBI. 2:06 Almost all of it is tied to drugs and gangs. >>REPORTER: In the next few weeks the city is reinstating crime watches, more survellience camera's, and some new technology. 1:40 We have shot dectection technology systems. That automatically triagulates sound where ever gunshots are fired. >>REPORTER: So I asked the Mayor if cameras and technology are the solution or if they just move the crime down the street. 1:21 The solution is that we're just gonna move them out of town. If they want to move back to NJ or NY that fine with me!! >>REPORTER: Mayor Pawlowski says it will take several components to change the city, but one of the most important, is the people. :19 People need to take charge of their neighbors it can't be just the police it needs to be a joint effort between the community and police. >>REPORTER: And that means talking to police. :50 Too many times no one comes forward to tell us and give us evidence about an incident. >>REPORTER: The consequences are all to real today, especially for the families of the victim's. 3:52 My condolences go out to this mans family and his mother. Whatever the circumstances where in this case the family's suffer. óStephanie Espositoó Despite this recent influx of violence, Mayor Pawlowski tells me according to FBI statistics, Allentown's violent crime rate is significantly lower then previous years. But that doesn't mean the city and the police department doesn't need your help. Karin?
Im sure anyone who lives around here agrees this shit is getting out of hand. And my neighbors and friends wonder why I carry. They have crime cameras on "bad" corners now.....like fucking Britain. Im not sure if other big cites in Pa have those, But Allentown is the "big city" for me.
EDIT: sorry for the hard to read article. I get the transcripts off the local news site. Its the only place to get local breaking news.
