I like testing out new cleaning products for my dishes since I don't have a dishwasher so does anyone have any recommendations for stuff that will really take away the smell and the grease? What do you use?

Or do the lot of you have a dishwasher because you're better than me?

I have one but it sucks so much that I basically have to clean them myself while loading it.

I use Palmolive with no complaints.

We've got a dishwasher, but also wash some stuff by hand in the sink. Dawn is the best, hands-down in my opinion.

I agree, still use Dawn regular blue soap,
although it is getting harder to find.
Maybe they are phasing it out the loathesome bastards.

Gotta go with Dawn.

But the Dawn Direct Foam is good for tough stuff.

And the Dawn Power Dissolver is phenomenal for grease and other caked on food.

I have a really awesome, super quite dishwasher that I love, but the T-fal I have says not to put it in the dishwasher. Since it's non-stick, the Shop-Rite brand works well when I use it.

I do have a popcorn pot which doesn't go in the dishwasher, either, and it recommends not using soap if you don't have to. The oil is building up on the lid, and since it's got wood handles I can't soak it. I have been thinking about picking up some Dawn to see if that will work better than my green apple stuff.

Keep one in your chics purse. That doesn't really help for dishes. In fact, it might kill you.

I recently inherited one that was filthy. Coated in grease. Ran it in the dishwaser (twice...on pots and pans setting) and it did NOTHING to clean it.

I started with the Dawn Power Dissolve (you have to let it sit for like 15 minutes).

http://images.orgill.com/200x200/5586839.jpg

And followed up with a good ol' fashion Brillo pad.

*Every* bit of grease came off. It was like new. I was shocked.

Lava soap rock the phat ass. A bar of Lava is much more gooder than GoJo, which is second.

When I get my mitts dirty, Lava is good.

not supposed to use brillo on steel pans are ya? I thought you could only use nylon brushes so as not to scratch it. I managed to use again, but still kinda yucky around the edges.

Brillo should be fine on stainless steel. It's non-stick surfaces that you can't use Brillo b/c you'll scratch up the non-stick stuff. Especially Teflon. Brillo is a big no-no on Teflon.

Even if some scratches do show up on the stainless steel, it doesn't ruin the pan like the scratches ruin non-stick pans. But it should say so on the box if you can use Brillo on stainless steel.

yeah I dont have the box anymore, just read some sites it wasn't good to scratch up the stainless (not for heath reasons, but because its not as non stick when its scratched up)

I use nothing but Dawn. The kind with Powerscrubbers works well on baked on stuff. The Direct Foam is the shit when you don't need to run a full sink full of water. Just a dab on the sponge or cloth and you can do a lot of dishes.
