Today, my Boss' asshole business partner (I refuse to call him a boss) got this email: (I removed our domain with XXXX)

Dear Manager,
This is JM Group, which is a professional domain name registration organization approved by China Internet Network.
On June 4. 2008, we have formally received an application from HuiMing Investment Corporation which is willing to register the .asia domain names of "XXXXX" (Because International Network Organization has introduced .asia domain name in order to integrate Asian internet)
During our checking time, we have found that this name is the same with your company's trademark, and your company uses it most frequently. In order to reduce unnecessary conflict between domain name and company's brand, we have the obligation to confirm with your company before the registration. Please ask the person who is responsible for your trademark to contact us a.s.a.p if there is any question.
We hereby inform you.

(.Asia domain name is an international top-level domain name with the suffix .asia. (such as: www.Trademarks.Asia)
Internet Brand is the extension and application of trademark on the internet which can inhibit the false propaganda on the internet!)

He is all up in a panic that someone can 'steal' our website. The procedure to register a .asia name is a little shady, apperently you need to find someone in Asia to register it for you. Network solutions doesn't have it in the list of domains you can register which is really weird. Anyone have experiance with .asia?

First thing I would do is check out the actual header info on the email to see where it came from. Second, check into this supposed "JM Group". I smell some major bullshit here.

This trips off all kinds of bells. They have your admin contacts. If there was a legal issue that required some kind of formal contact they'd contact you by fax and/or mail. The email would be a heads up at most and not reuire you to contact them further.

Edit: Looking at it further, there may be some validity to it as there are .asia domains and there is a JM Group but for all we kow it could be an attempt at a social hack.

I'll check the header later. I told him not to respond to the email, as I smelled the bullshit too. But I'm sure he ignored me and responded. Thanks for the responses, and I'll let you know if anything comes of it.

The first page of Google results for JM Group all returned companies that should have 0 to do with domain registration. If you don't mind, post the header info from the email here so I can try doing a little tracing.
