So just about a year after I got my replacement back, it's starting to shit the bed again. I was playing call of duty 4 and noticed a weird vertical stripe pattern on screen in the game. I can still play the game, but it's kind of distracting, and when looking towards any type of fire graphics, it's horrible. Anyone ever hear of this?

it may be an image burned into your tv screen, if its like a hard line. the other possibility is you may be plugging too many things in the power supply shared by the 360. you could always check the disc to make sure its not messed up of course, this problem is only unique to COD or anything else? how about the xbox dashboard? i've heard of consoles producing strange lines when theres not adequate power supply available, namely ps3 and xbox bc they are such resource hogs

could be the A/V cable. My HDMI cable took a shit and was giving me some crazy lines on the TV. Replaced it and all is well since.

is it like a gray stripe cause then it might be burn-in, otherwise try re-seating your video cables. Otherwise call them again if its only been a year it should still be covered, otherwise tell them to flush it down the toilet and to go fuck their mother.......LLLLLLLLIIIINNNNNNGGGGG LONGER.

He said one year since his replacement.
You might try the towel trick to force a red ring. That has a 3 year warranty.

Do you have one of the clip on unit coolers? Because those actually damage your system rather than cool it.

I think that is a sign your box will go bad. I started getting a horizontal line across the screen every so often then boom I got RRoD.

Your video card/chip is starting to go bad. The dreaded Red Ring of Death will be arriving shortly...
update...
strange thing I noticed this morning is that I wasn't getting it on the dashboard, or at the very least, I couldn't notice it there. Only in game when playing COD4. Might just be time to wrap this fucker up in a towel as previously mentioned.

Wow, where to begin...
So my ex g/f bought me a 360 for our anniversary, and when it became clear we weren't going to work out she like, stole it from my house one night when I was at a friend's house. I got it back, but like 4 days later and god knows what happened to it when she was coked out with her stupid ass friends in those 4 days and pissed at me.
Now, red has ceased to exist in all the games/movies I play on it. I'm not sure if it's the TV or the 360, just wondering if that's a known 360 issue or something. (Please god tell me it's the 360... That's like a $4,000 HD TV that I really don't have the funds to replace right now)
Also, since she bought it and lost the receipt, etc, is there a way for me to register myself as the owner so I can take advantage of the warranties and stuff in case of the 'ol RRoD? And does someone wanna explain the "towel trick" or do I have to search nazi that shit?

My guess is you are using the component cables and the red one isn't working properly.

The video would be screwed up beyond belief if he had em hooked up wrong. I say reseat them all on the back of the tv and on the 360 and switch it to tv then back to hdtv on the cable where it connects to the 360.

Not always. I saw a TV that someone hooked the red component to the red right audio channel of their TV. It made everything look like it was bluish black and white. Depending on the component method used there's going to be one or two of those wires that carry a sync signal IIRC. Generally the green and blue (again IIRC).

If the cables are fucked then I'll just pick up an HDMI chord, but if that does the same shit it's probably the red gun in the tube. (Heavy as hell Sony HD Tube TV, which means I could get it repaired theoretically if anyone still repairs TVs around here) But I have the plugs in the right holes (6 cable HD) and I flipped them from inputs 5 to 6 and it's still doing the same shit.
Thanks for the input folks

If it was the TV then everything would be missing red.
Or it could just be the one red input for the specific component input you are using.
Grab an HDMI cord anyways if your box has the connection on it. Just stay away from the expensive ones. They are a scam. It is a digital connection so it it works or it doesn't for the most part.
If you don't have a HDMI 360 then..........
Step one.
Switch it to SD and see if you get all colors on 480i. If that works....
Step two.
If reseating all of the cables didn't work, try to find someone who will let you borrow one for an hour or so to test it out with.

That's the problem... We haven't wired cable yet, no rabbit ears to test, and the only thing I have in the house to plug into the TV is the 360.
My room mate didn't even own a TV when I moved in... He's like a child developmental professor and reads a lot of old books and shit, heh. Myspace and Youtube are his only links to the world

Go pick up a pair of rabbit ears tomorrow at Radio Shack to test it. They have them for 9.99. Unless you like in the middle of nowhere you should be able to get a signal from something with your ATSC tuner.
Hell, I live near Rowlett and I can get every channel with a cheap Terk antenna.

this may sound stupid but go through the menu and check the red balance maybe its turned all the way down
so lucky me. I didn't get RROD. I got the fatal E74 error which happens to NOT be covered under the newer 3 year warranty. I may be selling off my games and broken console, and just investing in a PS3. It has all the same games I prefer, but a MUCH better rep as far as being reliable. Anyone know of a way I can make my machine RROD to save the trouble of having to switch consoles?

I know we've probably been through this before and I forgot, but I just sold a house in Wylie and I still party a lot on the lake out in Rowlett. What part do you live in out there?

attach an intercooler or find a way to make a voltage discrepancy, like removing the power while its on, and risk shocking yourself of course

Switch consoles. You don't deserve the fucking hassle.
Seriously, I don't get why any of you fucking put up with that. If it was anything else besides an Xbox I think most ppl would toss it into the trash and walk away. Get a PS3 or a Wii.
I decided I'm going to get it fixed, ebay it along with my games when it comes back, and get a PS3. The only thing stopping me before from getting a PS3 was that I already had the 360. I'm done giving MS money for such a shoddy product though. 3 strikes, your out.

There is only one problem with that. The Wii Sucks and the PS3 doesn't have Xbox Live.

and the ps3 isnt hacked. all the 360 games are free on the net.
How long do you think thats gonna last?
plus, who cares if its been hacked or not. Thats Microsofts problem, not ours ;)

it will last forever. if microsoft tries to stop it there will be a new hack, just like every other console except ps3. FREE games is FREE, can't beat that.
Until you get banned from live....

oh, I thought you were talking about the lack of the PS3 being hacked as a positive thing.
BTW, does the software hack still work for the 360?
There is only one problem with that. The Wii Sucks and the PS3 doesn't have Xbox Live.
The Wii doesn't suck. It is however mostly geared for casual gamers and parties. It's a novelty that I outgrew, but I still like it... and own it.
The PS3 wouldn't have Xbox live. It's not Microsoft. It does have online play and DLC though. In the end, the shortcomings of the PS3's online offerings have no effect to me. The things that LIVE has that PS3 doesn't... I never use them on LIVE, so it's no loss to me. The only thing I'm losing is gears of war 2, and reliability issues.
