There has been alot of news coming out as of late for these guys so I wanted to see if I could compile all the important games and news in this thread right here. There are a shitload of games coming out that have and haven't been discussed, as well as a game that's out that NEEDS some fucking attention
The World Ends With You - Nintendo DS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_Ends_With_You)
I am not exaggerating to you people when i tell you that this is the best RPG I've played since Chrono Trigger. The game itself is kind of short and the story is heavy on the Emo, but the game engine, battle systems and presentation completely blew me away. As of right now the game is poorly advertised and understocked, so don't expect more copies to be available until a week or two.
Now that I got that off my chest, here's the pending releases for Square-Enix:
June 24th Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 - Nintendo DS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ffta2)
July 22nd Final Fantasy IV DS 0 Nintendo DS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FFIVDS)
September 08 - Infinite Undiscovery - Xbox 360 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_Undiscovery)
Late 2008 - The Last Remnant - Playstation 3, Xbox 360 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Remnant)
Now it was just announced recently that Square is going to hold an Event in the summer that will showcase all those games that they've been hyping for the past year.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/880/880864p1.html
And finally the list of the other big Square projects with no solid release date I left out the others cause I really don't know much of them:
Final Fantasy XIII - PS3
Final Fantasy Vs. XIII - PS3
Dissidia - PSP
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - Nintendo DS
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep - PSP
Dragon Quest IX Hoshizora no Mamoribito - Nintendo DS

I hope they don't mess up Tactics like they did with the last Tactics advance. Whats with all these new titles for Square Enix all of a sudden. I'm glad they're branching out but it seems like a lot in a short amount of time all of a sudden.
btw are those US release dates?

thanks for keepin the thread updated, i forgot about it
i guess we might as well put up the big news.

Sorry, Sony. The Xbox 360 is finally going to get a blockbuster RPG. Square has announced at the Microsoft press conference that Final Fantasy XIII is going to be released on Xbox 360 the same day as PS3 in North America and Europe. What a huge coup for Microsoft, and what a great piece of news for Xbox 360 owners who also happen to be great console RPG lovers
oh yea... i've been meaning to pick up that Ipod game. it sounds really interesting and i think its only 5 dollars.

Square Enix announced today the formation of a new brand called Pure Dreams. Focusing on characters, the brand will debut with two DS titles, including a game based around the Snoopy license.
The Snoopy game is fully titled Snoopy DS: Let's Go Meet Snoopy and His Friends. Players create their own character and take part in mini games and other activities with the characters from the comic classic. A Japanese release for Snoopy DS is set for October 9.
The second game in the Pure Dreams series is titled Pingu's Wonderful Carnival. Playing as the penguin Pingu, from the animated television series, players complete jobs and other activities in an attempt to create a dream carnival. A Japanese release is set for November 6.
Currently, the two games have not been announced outside of Japan, but given the world recognition of both brands, and the fact that the titles Square Enix announced came with English translations, you can probably expect to see this different side of the Final Fantasy publisher in your part of the world at some point.

Did you play Dragon Quest on the PS2? It was fun, but I never got around to finishing it. I love turn-based RPG's...the real-time crap that SE has been pushing depresses me.

Square Enix fans were thrilled to enter the DKΣ3713 Private Party and check out ten of the company's most anticipated titles. However, Tetsuya Nomura had an extra surprise for attendees at the event – a behind the scenes documentary filmed at the Square Enix internal studio that was only completed yesterday by Nomura himself at 8:40 in the morning. What seemed rather apparent from the start of the documentary was that Nomura's filming was a surprise to everyone – many of the designers and character artists seemed shocked that he was taping at all, and were nervous about some of the elements being shown, including some character designs and concept art of Final Fantasy XIII versus the game translation. There was even some gameplay shown of Final Fantasy 13 which highlighted the size and scale of the world.
While this went on for a minute or two, the documentary soon shifted over to early development footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which showed the main character running around through different environments. It also showed off a sequence that was included within the trailer montage of the young king climbing a staircase, although the trailer paused and the camera was manipulated in real time with a mouse. The developers zoomed out and spun around the character, focusing on the lighting on his face and the detail within the environment. This, and a few other sections within the trailer montage was shown in-engine in real time, and was emphasized by the development team that it wasn't CG at all.
In fact, the next sequence was a round table style discussion with Motomu Toriyama, Hajime Tabata and others, where they discussed elements of Final Fantasy XIII. The inclusion of Versus XIII was specifically done to highlight that the development on the game was real, as the team had read numerous rumors online that stated that the game didn't exist. The developers also wanted to make a specific point about how Final Fantasy XIII is still being developed on the PS3 first, even with the recent announcement of the game crossing over to the Xbox 360. Apparently, the team is focusing on the PS3 as the main development platform, and will release the game in Japan first. The North American and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 will be held back until the 360 version is done so a simultaneous release can be made.
The designers also made a point to debunk the Internet rumor of Final Fantasy XIII coming to the PC, a rumor they claimed was made from a misunderstood comment from E3 this year. Nomura mentioned that he was trying to explain that he develops his games on a PC instead of indicating that Final Fantasy would be coming to a PC.
From there, the room of designers talked about the upcoming demo of Final Fantasy XIII, which will be included on the Blu-Ray disc of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete. They aren't sure exactly which section of the game will be included on the disc, and they're still deciding what areas will be included for the demo itself, but it should be a large bonus for the disc. Nomura and his team also pointed out that while development on Final Fantasy XIII is fully underway, there are still a number of elements that need to be worked on, such as some characters that haven't been approved of yet, and other gameplay features. They also mentioned that while they're casting voice actors for the game's roles, they haven't made a decision yet, although they think that TGS might be the first time that such an announcement would be made.

Some sweet gameplay video of Final Fantasy Dissidia for PSP. It's got fighting game action with elements that make it look like a FF boss battle. Lots of FF's trademark RPG-ness in play here. Looks real good.

Square Enix to buy Tecmo
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/906/906473p1.html
August 29, 2008 - Following a press release issued Friday morning (Tokyo time) announcing its intentions to stage a friendly buyout of Tecmo, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada held a press conference Friday afternoon to provide further details on the plan.
As detailed in the earlier announcement, Square Enix is hoping to purchase a majority stake in Tecmo, offering Tecmo shareholders a 30% premium over the firm's August 28 closing price. In the event that Tecmo's board should agree with the offer, Tecmo would see itself fall under the Square Enix Holdings umbrella, placing it in a similar position as Taito where it retains is brand name and corporate structure. If Tecmo's board does not agree, Square Enix would withdraw the the offer.
Talks with Tecmo began as far back as May, Wada revealed at the press conference. Wada met with Tecmo chairman Yasuharu Kakihara multiple times in May over the possibility of Tecmo working with Square Enix as part of the same group.
Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda's resignation last week did not have direct relation with the buyout plan, Wada said during a Q&A session. In response to a later question, however, he did admit that the timing of the announcement was affected by the resignation. Square Enix was concerned over the uneasiness that Tecmo employees might feel following the sudden news.
Wada addressed the possibility of synergy between the two companies. He noted that Tecmo has strong global titles, something that has attracted his attention for some time. He also noted that Square Enix is an RPG-focused company, and one wouldn't call action it's strongest field. Wada explained that with this in mind, he's hoping not for cooperative development but for the two firms to "inspire" one-another.
The arcade industry is one area of possible synergy, explained Wada, noting that Tecmo originally got its start in arcades. Specifics will have to be discussed between the two firms, but as an image, he said he's hoping to expand current contents, something that he feels will be well accepted by creators.
I guess we can expect Final Fantasy VII: Gaiden pretty soon.

If Dissidia: Final Fantasy comes out in America, and I'm sure it will, I may just have to get a PSP. That's how great it looks.
